Chapter 12 Gu Lingxiao

Lu Zhixia placed the fish in the empty basin next to her.

"Of course everything went smoothly. This is the grass carp I bought."

"What are you doing?" Su Lan saw that the fish in the basin was very big, at least 4 pounds. There were only two fish tickets a month, and because they were scarce, she usually exchanged them for other things.

Our family hasn't eaten fish for more than half a year.

"I haven't had fish in ages. I'll show you my skills in a bit and make you a braised grass carp! You treated me to dinner yesterday, and this fish is my way of returning the favor. Otherwise, I wouldn't have the heart to accept your meal!"

Lu Zhixia rolled up her sleeves and was about to start cleaning the fish.

Su Lan quickly reached out to stop her, "Alright, I won't say anything more to you. Go back to your room and rest. I'll clean the fish."

"Don't do that again. You're going through a tough time right now, so you have to be careful with every penny you have, understand?"

"Okay, Sister Lan! I promise I won't waste money anymore."

Lu Zhixia rolled down her sleeves; after riding her bike all day, she needed to change her clothes.

So he turned around, took the key, opened the door, closed it, changed his clothes inside, and when he came out, the fish had already been cleaned.

She took the vegetables out of the pot, then poured some oil into the pot and started frying the fish.

Su Lan saw that the grass carp was fried to a decent standard, and most importantly, the fish didn't stick to the pan. She hadn't even tried frying fish earlier because her cooking skills weren't up to par.

"Hey girl, your cooking is really good, it's just as good as my Da Cheng's!"

"My cooking is so-so, but my older brother is a professional chef. I can't compare to him!"

Lu Zhixia scooped some water into the pot with a ladle, then took out the seasonings from the cupboard and added a little of each.

Finally, I poured some soybean paste into the pot and then put the lid on.

"Okay, simmer on low heat for 20 minutes and it's ready to eat."

"Your cooking is really good. You said it was just average. I think the fish will be delicious tonight." Su Lan took a plate out of the cupboard and covered the cooked dish.

Since I've already bought the fish, I might as well eat it. I'll bring some more to my girlfriend later if I have any good food.

When Zhou Cheng got home from get off work, he could smell the fish from a distance. He thought someone was cooking it, but when he got to his door and smelled the pot, he realized that his family had cooked fish.

Upon entering the house, I saw my wife and child sitting on stools, with Lu Meizi sitting beside them.

"Why are you stewing fish today?"

"Xia bought the fish and cooked it herself." Su Lan helped her husband take off his coat, then handed him a towel to wipe his face.

Lu Zhixia cut out small fish from paper for the children, one for each of them, and the children were overjoyed.

"That's quite a skill," Su Lan exclaimed.

Zhou Cheng went outside, opened the pot lid, and glanced at the fish. It looked and smelled delicious; all that was left was to simmer it over low heat for a while longer to reduce the broth before it was ready to eat.

So he looked at the rice bowl next to him, which was rice mixed with corn, but unfortunately it wasn't pure rice.

Song Weidong hired a few people to help him move his house. Actually, he just sorted out his family's clothes, which filled three large suitcases. He discovered this while packing.

Lu Zhixia had very few clothes; the few pieces she could wear were all taken away by her. After searching carefully, her household registration booklet was also taken.

He felt a little flustered at that moment, but he quickly calmed down. Lu Zhixia loved him so much, how could she bear to leave him?

Song Lingling knew her brother had a house outside, but she didn't expect it to be such a nice house. There was a big sofa, a 29-inch black and white TV, and the cabinets in the room were all new. The huge window looked downstairs, and the view was amazing.

Especially since this house has three rooms, besides the one where Mom lives, she now has her own room.

She was dismissive of her sister-in-law's departure, believing she deserved to have no good fortune. She came out of the house and saw her brother sitting on the sofa smoking. She sat down next to him.

"Why didn't you let me and Mom know about this nice house sooner? I thought the address you gave me was someone else's address. I never imagined it was the house you bought!"

“I almost forgot if you hadn’t brought it up. Why did you tell your sister-in-law your address?” Song Weidong asked his sister with a cold face.
