“Alright!” Erni gave in.
Lu Zhixia touched the little girl's face; she was quite pretty, just a bit thin.
Then she took the group of children to the snack stall ahead and bought them all sorts of food.
Lu Zhixia looked around, but unfortunately there were no places to buy clothes. She took out her wallet from her bag, intending to give them some money.
Erni saw all of this and quickly spoke up.
"Auntie, please don't give us money. We don't want it."
Tiger tugged at Erni's sleeve, trying to get her to accept the money, because that's exactly what they needed right now.
I can eat less each day, but my grandfather's medicine is really expensive. After he came out of the hospital, he switched to drinking Chinese medicine, and just one dose of Chinese medicine costs a lot of money.
That's why they all came out to collect recyclables, hoping to save more money so that their grandfather could drink Chinese medicine and get through the winter, which would mean they had survived a major ordeal.
Erni looked at Huzi and shook her head slightly. She felt that she couldn't owe people too many favors.
Lu Zhixia sensed something was wrong from their eyes.
"How else can I help you?"
Erni said, "Auntie, you've already helped us so much, thank you!"
Lu Zhixia could tell that this child was stubborn and possessed a maturity beyond his years.
"I'm staying at the guesthouse not far from here. If you need anything urgent in the next few days, you can look for me! My room number is 303!"
"Thank you, Auntie!" Erni bowed gratefully.
They followed suit and did the same.
Lu Zhixia: "Can you go back by yourselves?"
Erni nodded, "You don't need to see us off."
Lu Zhixia did not insist any further. She decided to inquire about the children's living conditions before leaving and offer them some assistance.
Watching them turn and leave, the little child was especially excited, jumping and skipping around, which was extremely cute.
Although they were poor, they lived happily.
Zhou An'an turned to Lu Zhixia and said, "This little girl will definitely amount to something when she grows up."
Lu Zhixia said, "I think so too. She looks a lot like me when I was a child."
Zhou An'an, "Is it more like appearance?"
Lu Zhixia said, "Her little face is all messed up, so you can only see her general appearance. What I'm saying is that her personality is very similar to mine." Then she lowered her head and said, "Her background is also very similar to mine. I was raised by my grandfather when I was little."
Zhou An'an could tell that she missed her family. "Let's go! We should go back to the guesthouse and rest."
Lu Zhixia nodded, and then followed her back.
Erni looked back and saw that the two aunties had already turned and left, walking in the opposite direction from them.
Tiger asked, puzzled, "Why don't we ask them for some money? We need money most right now."
Erni taught him, "We can't rely on others for everything. They've already given us enough. With this food, we don't need to go out for the next few days. We can stay home and take good care of Grandpa, and spend more time with him!"
Tiger didn't say anything more. This group of people listened to their grandfather and Erni.
After walking along the winding path for more than ten minutes, I finally returned to the dilapidated courtyard.
Although the place was dilapidated, it was their home. The moment the door was pushed open, everyone was happy and rushed inside.
Watching them run so happily, Erni wished this moment could be frozen in time.
Then she turned to Sanwa and Huzi and said, "Let's put the things down and then go get the cardboard back!"
Tiger wiped the sweat from his face. "Okay, let's hurry up and get it. I'm afraid that woman will change her mind."
So they went back inside and put their things on the floor.
Steamed buns, fried dough cakes, fried meatballs, and cold dishes are all delicious to them.
The aunt was very generous to them, buying them all the most expensive things.
A child ran into the house with fruit and called out to his grandfather.
"There are bananas to eat! Let's eat bananas!"
Old Man Fan opened his eyes and saw that the children had all returned, carrying delicious food in their hands. It was obvious that Erni hadn't bought it for them; the family had long since run out of money.
When he was ill, he gave all the family's money to Erni, so he knew exactly how much money they had.
Immediately afterward, seeing Erni and Huzi enter, he asked directly,
"What's going on? Where did this money come from?"
Erni could see her grandfather's worry, so she could only tell the truth, "A kind person bought me some food. We didn't want to accept it, but she insisted on buying it."
Old Fan asked cautiously, "Who is it? Is it a man or a woman?"
Erni: "They are two aunties."
Even after hearing that it was a woman, Old Man Fan was still uneasy.
"No, don't take things from strangers, and don't go with strangers. This is a lesson I've taught you since you were little!"
Erni said, "Grandpa, I understand what you're saying, and that's how I teach them. But this auntie, we met her once before, she's a good person!"
Old Man Fan was very surprised; Erni rarely spoke so highly of him to outsiders.
"How old is she?"
"She looks to be in her early twenties!" Erni said.
Old Man Fan said, "Even if they are good people, don't trouble them too much. Don't do this again!"
Erni took a banana, peeled it, and said, "Grandpa, have some!"
Looking at the children's expectant eyes, Old Man Fan took a big bite. In reality, he couldn't eat much now; he was lucky if he could just take his medicine every day.
His stomach was extremely upset, but he didn't dare tell his children, afraid they would worry and feel sad. He also wanted to take them to the hospital.
