Brother Biao led a group of people to have breakfast at the state-run restaurant downstairs. Each person had two steamed buns and a bowl of porridge.
The pickled vegetables are sold by weight, and he needs a pound every morning, so supporting this group of people is quite expensive.
Old Zhang went upstairs first, and after finding no one there, he went to the restaurant and found the person in the usual spot.
When Brother Biao saw Old Zhang arrive, he immediately put down his chopsticks.
"Why did you come here?"
"Comrade Lu asked me to come and find you, saying there's something I need to discuss."
Where is she?
"In the house where they work."
"Okay, I understand." Brother Biao stood up, put his hat on, and said, "Why don't you eat something here if you're hungry?"
Old Zhang laughed and said, "I'm not eating anymore, I'm full. Comrade Lu brought us food, including beer, steamed buns, and braised pork head. We had a very satisfying breakfast today."
Upon hearing this, Brother Biao thought to himself that Lu Zhixia was a truly virtuous person.
He told the other brothers, "I'm going out for a bit. You guys go back after you finish eating!"
"Got it, boss!" they said in unison, their voices loud and clear.
Passersby couldn't help but stare, and some were so startled they almost fell over.
Brother Biao reached out and helped the person up, making sure they were steady before letting go and walking out.
We couldn't just walk there, so we went back to our lodgings, got our bicycles, and rode there.
Since Lu Zhixia had nothing better to do, she took the initiative to pick up a shovel and start working.
Seeing her quick and efficient movements, everyone admired her; this woman was truly a skilled worker.
When Brother Biao arrived at the destination, he got off his bicycle. Although the temperature had dropped, the sun was still very strong.
He tucked his bag under his armpit and took eight steps inside.
Seeing Lu Zhixia working with a shovel under the sun, he quickly threw away his bag and went over to snatch the shovel.
"Hey grandma, what are you doing here?!"
"You returned it to my elders today?" Lu Zhixia laughed.
"With so many people working, we don't need you." As he spoke, Brother Biao tossed the shovel to the person next to him. "You guys are really something, why are you making others do the work!"
"Brother Biao! We couldn't stop him even if we wanted to!" The man said, giving a thumbs up. "Comrade Lu is a real work ethic! Top-notch!"
Lu Zhixia said, "You taught me well there, and now I know how difficult this work is."
Brother Biao said, "Making money isn't easy; this is their livelihood."
Lu Zhixia said, "You can't say that. They work for me. I'll bring them some good food when I have time."
Brother Biao shouted at them, "Hurry up and thank Comrade Lu!"
"Thank you, Comrade Lu!"
"We're not picky eaters, as long as there's food, we're happy!"
"It would be even better if there was meat!" the man shouted. "I'm so hungry, I feel like I could eat a whole cow!"
Lu Zhixia: "If I ever manage to buy a pig's head, how about I make you a pig's head sauce?"
“Sure! We’ll eat anything that’s meat!” the man replied.
Brother Biao gave the man a look, and the man quickly grabbed a shovel and went to work. Then he turned to Lu Zhixia and said,
"Speak! What do you want from me?"
“Let’s go outside and talk.” Lu Zhixia turned and walked towards the front door.
After exiting the door and turning right, feeling that there was no one around, I turned to Brother Biao and said...
"Did Song Weidong say anything about the child's whereabouts?!"
Brother Biao sighed, "He said it, but it was as if he said nothing. He only said that he handed the child over to a cleaning woman, and then he knew nothing more."
Lu Zhixia said, "It seems he really didn't know. Alright, you can let him go now."
Brother Biao asked, puzzled, "Is what he said true?"
Lu Zhixia nodded, "That's right, I've found that person's address, but I'm not sure if she lives there, since several years have passed."
Brother Biao, "Should I go and check it out for you?"
Lu Zhixia said, "I'll be there in a few days; I want to investigate personally."
Brother Biao knew it was inappropriate for a woman to go to an unfamiliar city alone; even a roughneck like him knew that.
“I’ll go with you, and I’ll bring two brothers with me. There’s strength in numbers, we’ll find it eventually.”
Lu Zhixia glanced at Brother Biao. People like him, who frequently roam the streets, are always at ease wherever they go. Perhaps bringing them along would indeed make things twice as effective.
"Let me think about it some more, I'll let you know when the time comes!"
"Just make your decision!" Brother Biao didn't offer much advice. "You can go out with peace of mind. Leave the house to me. I'll come and check on them from time to time."
Lu Zhixia said, "I think they are quite honest."
Brother Biao laughed, "That's because you didn't see them act recklessly. They were all quite stubborn, but fortunately they've returned to being ordinary people now. Plus, with everyone getting together, their personalities have gradually improved!"
Lu Zhixia said, "Alright, I'm not going to talk to you anymore. I have to go to the supply and marketing cooperative to buy some things. We'll talk again next time we meet. Remember to release the person, or someone will die!"
After being reprimanded by Gu Lingxiao yesterday, she felt a lingering fear. If someone were to die, none of them would escape the consequences.
Brother Biao: "Okay, I'll go to the place where he's being held and release him in a bit. Don't worry, he won't cause you any more trouble."
Lu Zhixia felt relieved, so she rode her bicycle to the supply and marketing cooperative.
Brother Biao took out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, lit one, took a deep drag, and then threw it on the ground and stomped it out after a few more puffs.
Then he got on his bicycle and rode towards the place where he was being held.
