After saying that, he carried his things into the house.
Looking at his tall and straight back, Song Yanzhi's face flashed with a complicated expression.
"Xiao Bao, let's go inside." She pulled Xiao Bao inside, where Pei Yuchen was talking to his father, who was lying on the couch.
Pei's father has broken both legs and can only sit in a wheelchair; he usually lies down.
Because of his severe injuries, he was often in a semi-conscious state.
Seeing her son arrive, she asked with difficulty, "Yu Chen, were you two arguing just now?"
Pei Yuchen said in a low voice, "No."
Pei's father sighed and looked at Song Yanzhi and Xiaobao.
He waved, "Yanzhi and Xiaobao are here too, come over here and let Grandpa take a look."
Because Wang Yanmei disliked Xiaobao and treated him badly, Xiaobao didn't like coming to the Pei family.
That's why he rarely comes here.
Looking at the old man on the bed, he frowned but didn't move. Instead, he looked up at Song Yanzhi.
"Go on, Xiaobao, that's Grandpa."
Pei's father passed away soon after, and he never bullied her or Xiaobao. Song Yanzhi's impression of him was neither good nor bad.
Xiao Bao then walked over, and Pei Yuchen's eyes followed his son closely. When he saw him coming over, he reached out to hug him, but Xiao Bao twisted his body to avoid him.
Although he just protected his mother, he still won't forgive him so easily.
Pei's father smiled and patted Xiao Bao's head, then told Pei Yuchen to spend more time with him.
Pei Yuchen was not angry at his son's rejection and agreed to everything.
Pei Jichuan and Pei Tiantian stood at the back, feeling as if everything around them was out of place.
The two stood there awkwardly.
Finally, it was time to eat, and Pei Tiantian breathed a sigh of relief.
She obediently stepped forward to help Wang Yanmei serve the dishes.
"Grandma, let me help you."
"Yu Chen, Ji Chuan, come and eat."
Wang Yanmei was probably feeling a little guilty, as she was now all smiles, trying to please everyone.
Pei Yuchen didn't look at her, but tilted his head to look at Song Yanzhi and Xiaobao beside him: "Let's go eat."
Song Yanzhi nodded slightly and called out, "Xiao Bao."
Xiao Bao walked past Pei Yuchen to her side and took her hand on his own initiative.
The subtle dependence her son showed warmed Song Yanzhi's heart.
She hadn't noticed these details in her past life and once thought that her son had no feelings for his mother.
Only now do I realize how terribly wrong I was.
The family sat down at the table.
The dishes on the table were pitifully few: a plate of scrambled eggs, a bowl of sour soup, a plate of potato slices, and a plate of cured meat that had been stir-fried countless times.
Wang Yanmei wasn't embarrassed at all. "I was planning to kill a chicken today, but I got back too late and it delayed me, so I didn't kill one. We'll just have to make do with this."
After saying that, she put a big chopstick of egg on Pei Jichuan's plate. "Jichuan, eat up. You're growing, don't be shy, eat more."
After she finished speaking, she looked up and saw that everyone was staring at her. Realizing something, she picked up some more food for Xiao Bao, saying, "Xiao Bao, you should eat too."
As soon as Xiao Bao saw her action, his face fell, and he glared at her fiercely.
An indescribable disgust.
Wang Yanmei's face stiffened.
I was so angry I almost died.
He really is an annoying child.
Pei Tiantian immediately looked at Wang Yanmei expectantly, thinking that she would give it to her.
As a result, Wang Yanmei gave the money to Pei Hai instead.
Pei Hai glared at Pei Jichuan, unable to understand why this outsider's mother was being so nice to him.
He got all the good stuff, while his own son was relegated to the back of the list.
When did his mother become so kind?
Pei Jichuan froze, unsure of what to eat.
Pei Tiantian didn't dare to use her chopsticks to pick up any food, and instead rummaged through the cornmeal in her bowl.
She was filled with regret. If she had known that this was what her grandma ate, she would have eaten at home before coming over.
In no time, everyone had a chopstick, and the food was gone.
Pei Yuchen barely touched his chopsticks. He put a little food on Song Yanzhi and Xiaobao's plate, and it was gone in the blink of an eye.
Song Yanzhi watched indifferently.
She and Xiaobao ate some food at home, but they weren't hungry.
But we couldn't waste food, so when we saw there was no more vegetables, we poured some soup for Xiaobao to soak in and let him finish it.
Wang Yanmei had been watching the two of them closely. When they were almost finished eating, she casually reminded them, "Yu Chen, now that you're back, Ji Chuan and Tian Tian's household registrations should be transferred here. When do you have time to go and get it done?"
Pei Yuchen paused, then turned his head to glance at Song Yanzhi.
Song Yanzhi's expression remained calm, without any ripples.
Pei Yuchen withdrew his gaze.
Wang Yanmei's eyes turned cold when she saw that he was still looking at Song Yanzhi's expression.
“We had no problem with you selling your job on your own initiative and forcing your older sister to pay you. Now it’s just a matter of transferring the child’s household registration. You shouldn’t have any objections to that either, right?”
Song Yanzhi paused, her hand holding the chopsticks still.
He then smiled and said, "You can discuss this matter yourselves. It's not like it's going to be registered under my Song family's name, so what objection could I possibly have?"
Wang Yanmei gave her a look that said, "You're smart to know what's good for you."
Then she smiled and looked at Pei Yuchen: "Yuchen, since there are no problems, then you can take the child to transfer the household registration..."
Unexpectedly, Pei Yuchen interrupted her, saying, "I have my own plans for this matter, Mom, you don't need to interfere."
After saying that, he saw Xiao Bao put down his chopsticks and let out a burp, so he stood up and said, "If there's nothing else, we'll head back now."
Pei Jichuan and Pei Tiantian immediately stood up.
"Hey, what do you mean by that? Are we going to move or not? We can't let the two children suffer."
Wang Yanmei was a little anxious because she could only feel at ease if she transferred the two children to her eldest son's household registration.
