Chapter 20 Fried Rice

I returned home quietly.

Song Yanzhi plunged headfirst into the kitchen.

The medicine was bubbling and gurgling in the jar when she realized she had been somewhat lost in thought.

The warmth still seemed to linger on my hands.

Song Yanzhi snapped out of her daze and quickly took the pot off the fire, pouring a bowlful into it.

The longer this medicine is boiled, the darker it gets.

The taste is getting more and more bitter.

After waiting a while, when the temperature was about right, Pei Yuchen came in and washed his hands.

Seeing the medicine on the table, "Take your medicine?"

Song Yanzhi hummed in agreement, held the bowl and drank it all down, then watched as he looked away and straightened up.

"Are you still hungry?"

Pei Yuchen paused.

Song Yanzhi added, "I still have some leftover fried rice from this afternoon, you can heat it up and eat it."

After saying that, she washed the dishes, turned around, and walked out.

Pei Yuchen walked to the cabinet next to him, opened it, and there was a large bowl of fried rice inside.

His expression softened slightly as he took it out and heated it.

It smells delicious.

I remember when Song Yanzhi first married into the family, she didn't know how to cook very well.

You can burn yourself even while cooking.

But now her cooking skills are already very good.

He rolled up his sleeves and used the embers from Song Yanzhi's medicine-making process to heat up his meal.

Xiao Bao was about to go to sleep when he suddenly smelled the aroma of fried rice.

He loves rice; he can eat a whole bowl of it, even if it's just dry rice.

Song Yanzhi made egg fried rice once, and it became his favorite dish.

Each grain of rice is distinct, and the aroma of eggs is rich and mellow.

Every bite was incredibly delicious.

Even when he's full, he still wants to eat.

He was drawn to the aroma and unconsciously walked to the kitchen doorway.

I saw tall, slender figures moving back and forth inside, their movements methodical and orderly.

Unlike a mother's gentleness.

There's a sense of unfamiliarity that also gives you a feeling of security.

Xiao Bao doesn't understand what this feeling is like.

But I don't dislike it.

Pei Yuchen sensed the gaze and turned around to see Xiao Bao.

When the two, one big and one small, came face to face, they were both stunned at first, and then Xiao Bao turned around and ran away without a trace.

Pei Yuchen realized that the child probably wanted to eat, so he looked at his own bowl, took out a small bowl, filled it with food for his son, and carried it out.

Xiao Bao sat on a small stool with his back to him.

I don't know what she's thinking.

"Xiao Bao, would you like something to eat?"

Pei Yuchen took two steps forward, squatted down, and handed him the small bowl, lowering his voice.

Xiao Bao actually wanted to refuse, but looking at the fragrant, golden fried rice, he unconsciously swallowed his saliva.

He snatched it away and then turned around.

Pei Yuchen's cold and stern expression softened slightly as he said in a low voice, "Eat slowly."

Xiao Bao doesn't listen to him at all.

He kept shoveling rice into his mouth.

It's as if they're afraid of being robbed.

Pei Jichuan and Pei Tiantian also smelled the fragrance.

Pei Tiantian couldn't help but notice.

I saw Xiao Bao and Pei Yuchen eating fried rice with eggs.

Her eyes immediately reddened.

She didn't even get enough to eat at her grandma's house before Uncle Pei and Aunt Song called her away.

Originally, I was thinking of coming home to eat something nice.

Xiao Bao ate during the day and can still eat now.

But she wasn't included.

She was so upset she couldn't contain herself.

I think Aunt Song is very biased.

Everyone else ate the fried rice, but no one else got any.

She knew this situation was called male chauvinism.

She suddenly stopped liking it here!

Pei Tiantian covered her head with the blanket and lay on the bed crying.

...

"Xiao Bao!" Before Xiao Bao had finished eating, he heard Song Yanzhi's stern voice.

The child, who hadn't responded when Pei Yuchen called him, suddenly stiffened.

Pei Yuchen glanced at him sideways, then looked up and met Song Yanzhi's angry gaze.

He was slightly taken aback.

"What's wrong?"

"Xiao Bao has already eaten three bowls of rice tonight, what's wrong with that?" Song Yanzhi was angry and her tone was not pleasant.

Xiao Bao was already in poor health and had poor digestive ability.

Eating so much will make my stomach feel bloated and uncomfortable.

That's why she only let her child eat half a bowl in the afternoon.

I just ate a bowl of rice soup at the Pei family's house, which already put me in a bad mood.

They're eating again now.

Xiao Bao sensed the danger in her tone and immediately looked towards Pei Yuchen.

I wanted to shift the blame to him.

He didn't want his mother to be angry, afraid that she would become the mother who didn't like him before.

Pei Yuchen rubbed his nose after being glared at by Song Yanzhi.

It feels like I've done something wrong and am being reprimanded.

But he didn't find it annoying at all; in fact, he was quite pleased.

For the first time since returning home, his wife, whose attitude towards him had plummeted to rock bottom, showed a different expression in front of him.

Song Yanzhi ignored him and touched Xiao Bao's belly, which was sticking up high.

She was a little angry, but when she met Xiao Bao's frightened eyes, she couldn't bring herself to say anything accusatory.

"Alright, I'll let you off this time, but don't let it happen again." Although she felt sorry for Xiaobao and wanted to make it up to him, she didn't want to spoil the child.

So his tone was very stern at this moment.

Xiao Bao nodded, holding the bowl.

Looking at the bowl, Song Yanzhi said, "Go wash the bowl yourself, and remember to wash your hands before you go to sleep."

Xiao Bao quickly slid off the stool, grabbed the bowl, and ran into the kitchen. Just as he was about to wash it, he suddenly noticed a few grains of rice and egg crumbs inside. He paused, looked around, and seeing that no one was coming in, immediately bent down and licked the rice and grease off the bowl before standing on tiptoe to wash it.

As he washed the dishes, he savored the aroma of the rice and eggs.

My stomach is so full, but I still want to eat. It's awful.
