Chapter 45 Favoritism

Li Baozhu disagreed, saying, "Sister, you actually took this child in? You even brought him home without discussing it with your aunt and uncle?"

Upon hearing this, her mother, Li Yuehua, immediately frowned.

She initially felt sorry for her daughter, but seeing how useless she was, bringing the child back without even a word, she became angry.

"You, you, why didn't you call home and discuss it with your family earlier? Now that you've brought her back, what are we supposed to do?"

Her father frowned and didn't say anything.

Song Yanzhi said directly, "Mom, I brought him back not to force you to admit it, but to tell you that Pei Yuchen and I have reached an agreement: the two children will stay with him, and Xiaobao will stay with me. If he does anything to wrong me and Xiaobao in the future, I can get a divorce and take Xiaobao with me without suffering any injustice."

Li Yuehua listened with a headache: "You make it sound so simple. What's with all this talk about divorce? Where will you go after the divorce? What about Xiaobao? You're so narrow-minded, you haven't thought about the future. What will you do after the divorce?"

Upon hearing this, Li Baozhu quickly comforted Li Yuehua, saying, "Aunt, don't be angry with my sister. It's normal to feel down when faced with something like this. But sister, you're being too willful, wanting a divorce. Are you going to go back to your parents' home after the divorce? It's not that your aunt and uncle look down on you, it's just that what outsiders say is unpleasant. You may not care, but how will your uncle and aunt face people in the future?"

Song Yanzhi said slowly and deliberately, "Li Baozhu, what do you mean by that? Do you mean that even if my husband bullies me, I should endure it and live with him without telling my parents? Let their daughter be bullied for nothing?"

When she said this, Pei Yuchen glanced at her.

She seemed certain that she would do something to betray her.

Li Baozhu said anxiously, "That's not what I meant. Sister, why do you think of me like that? I'm just concerned about you and Aunt. You're all my family. How could I wish you were unhappy?"

"That's not what you meant. What did you mean? You want me to be good to you, but you expect me to let others bully me without telling my family? You usually complain to my mom when I say something to you, so what's wrong with me telling my parents when I'm wronged?"

"Or do you think my parents are the kind of people who would feel ashamed because I got divorced?"

Li Baozhu: "You—"

Seeing her niece speechless after being rebuked, Li Yuehua became a little angry: "Zhizhi, how can you talk to your sister like that? Baozhu is just concerned about you, why are you yelling at her like that?"

Song Yanzhi ignored her words and took a sip of water, saying calmly, "Mom, do you also think that I shouldn't tell you when I'm wronged and should just keep it to myself?"

“I didn’t get into college after I finished high school. I wanted to repeat a year, but you wouldn’t let me. You forced me to go on blind dates, saying that my brother was getting married and I was under a lot of pressure and didn’t have money for me to repeat a year. But in reality, you gave the money to Li Baozhu to raise the tuition for college, right?”

“I didn’t say anything. Anyway, since I was little, you’ve always prioritized your niece when you had money, and you’ve never cared about my feelings. If you think like Li Baozhu, then you can rest assured that even if I get divorced, I won’t come back to be a burden to you.”

Upon hearing Song Yanzhi's words, Li Yuehua paused for a moment, then her eyes reddened. She turned her head away and wiped away her tears. How could she not feel heartache for her own daughter?

If I hadn't been afraid that she still wanted to study and forced her to go on blind dates, my daughter wouldn't be in this situation now.

It's all my own fault.

But she also had her own unspeakable suffering.

Upon hearing this, Li Baozhu blushed and said, "Sister, what do you mean? My father and aunt took the money, it's not like they're not going to pay you back. Do you have to say such nasty things?"

Song Yanzhi sneered: "If your actions were as fast as your mouth, you wouldn't still be owed the tuition fees you borrowed in first grade. You don't know that your tuition fees since first grade have all come from my mother, do you?"

"I thought you didn't know, but it turns out you knew and kept talking about it, but you haven't gotten a single penny back?"

Li Baozhu's face turned red with anger. "I didn't know at first either. Besides, it was all money borrowed by my dad. Why are you taking it out on me?"

Seeing the two arguing, Li Yuehua quickly said, "Yes, it's been so long. He's your uncle. It's no big deal for him to help the village a little. Why do you remember it so clearly?"

Hearing this, Song's father, who had been silent all along, spoke up, "Alright, say less. The one who's wronged is Yan Zhi. That's your own brother. Does that mean Yan Zhi isn't your own daughter?"

Upon hearing this, Li Yuehua blushed, and Li Baozhu also felt very angry.

How can you blame her family entirely? It wasn't like they were the ones begging her family for money in the first place.

It's disgusting that they took the money and then said such awful things.

She had always found her uncle an eyesore, and now she disliked him even more. She pursed her lips and put on a stern face. "Yes, yes, it's all my fault, okay? I'll go back and have my dad pay you back, so that it won't sound like my family owes you millions."

After saying that, without waiting for Li Yuehua to stop him, he turned around and ran away.

Her home isn't far away; it's just a few minutes' walk.

Seeing her niece storm off in anger, Li Yuehua felt resentful, thinking her husband was disrespecting her. "What are you saying? I'm the one who gave you the money. Why are you taking it out on the child? Just because I married you doesn't mean I can't acknowledge my family. Haven't you criticized me for helping my family for over a decade? And now you're bringing it up again? How will my brother's family view me in the future?"

Mr. Song was also furious. He had come to discuss his daughter's matter, but his niece had spoken entirely in her favor, criticizing his daughter. His daughter had already suffered enough, and now his mother was acting like this. He immediately retorted, "The money was given by you, but it belongs to our whole family, not just you. I let you help me in the first place, but once or twice is one thing. What does it mean to help for ten or twenty years? Our Song family's money didn't grow on trees. Why does he have the right to refuse to pay it back?"
