Chapter 76 Taking the Blame

"What? A top-tier university? Baozhu, you repeated a year? How come I didn't know?"

Hearing this, the homeroom teacher was a little dumbfounded.

Li Baozhu's academic performance wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. She couldn't even get into a junior college, let alone a top university.

Even if you retake the exam, it's still very difficult to get into a top university.

She was a little confused.

“Yes!” Li Baozhu spoke up first, “On such an important day, let’s not bring up these past events, right, sister?”

After saying that, he kept giving Li Yuehua meaningful glances, signaling her to shut Song Yanzhi up.

Li Yuehua's face had turned panicked, and she hurriedly stepped forward to speak.

Before she could even speak, Song Yanzhi immediately said, "How can that be? You said you'd treat us to dinner to celebrate your university graduation, and I was thinking that now that you're starting a new job at the bank, we should celebrate together. I'm your older sister, how could I forget something so important?!"

However, the English teacher spoke up at this moment, saying in surprise, "Did I hear that right? Today, Yanzhi said that her younger sister is going to work at a bank, and she even asked Teacher Wang. Teacher Wang said that she only scored 200 points on the college entrance exam. How could she possibly get into a top university? Are you sure you didn't misremember?"

"Impossible!" Song Yanzhi denied it outright, looking at Teacher Wang in shock: "Teacher, are you sure you didn't make a mistake? Everyone in the village knew that Baozhu got into university back then. But because she was low-key, she didn't invite everyone to dinner. With such good grades as Baozhu, how could you ignore her like that?"

Everyone around was dumbfounded.

After listening, you looked at me, and I looked at you.

"No way, two hundred points?"

"Is it possible to get into a top university with a score of 200?"

"Is there some misunderstanding?"

"Actually, I've always wondered how Li Baozhu, whose grades weren't very good when she was young, managed to get into such a good school..."

Everyone looked on with suspicion.

Upon hearing Song Yanzhi's accusation, Teacher Wang immediately became angry. "I couldn't possibly have made a mistake. Our class is just an ordinary class. Back then, not even two of us got into university. If she really got into a top university, would I not know? You guys aren't just bragging, are you?"

She thought that Li Baozhu had fabricated a false identity in order to get a job at the bank.

She could tolerate everything else, but to doubt herself was something she couldn't stand!

He immediately retorted angrily, "If you don't believe me, come with me to check right now. I still have all the records from back then!"

Li Baozhu's breath caught in her throat, and she almost burst into a tirade against her. She forced a stiff smile and said, "No, no, teacher, please, please stop..."

The English teacher disagreed, saying, "Yes, how can you two sisters be like this? Yanzhi got into university but didn't go because she wanted to get married, and you didn't get in but insist on pretending to be a university student. There's no need to be so vain."

"What? Teacher, what did you say?" Before Song Yanzhi could speak, her father suddenly became agitated and rushed forward to ask.

You mean my son Yanzhi passed the exam?

"Of course she got in, don't you remember? Yanzhi got into a top-tier university, but I heard that you parents wanted her to get married to help support the family, so she gave up the opportunity to go to university. I tried to persuade her many times, but Yanzhi's mother refused. I was heartbroken."

Upon hearing this, Song's father was almost bursting with rage.

As if struck by a thought, he abruptly turned to look at his wife, and sure enough, her face was deathly pale.

The people around were also dumbfounded.

"Song Yanzhi also got into university? Wasn't it Li Baozhu who got in?"

"What's going on? I'm a little confused."

"I know! Li Baozhu must have stolen Song Yanzhi's college acceptance letter and gone to university. I told her right then and there that with her terrible grades, how could she possibly do better than me!"

One of them suddenly shouted that it was Wang Guifang, the village chief's daughter.

Her eyes widened, as if she had realized something.

Song Yanzhi looked utterly devastated. "No, it's impossible. Baozhu couldn't possibly be that kind of person. How could she have stolen my acceptance letter? My mother has been asking about it but hasn't received it."

When Song's father saw his daughter's appearance, he was overwhelmed with grief. If he had only guessed before, he was now almost certain.

He angrily stepped forward, grabbed his wife by the collar, and shouted, "You bastard, you beast, did you steal Zhizhi's admission notice? You were the one who asked her all along; Zhizhi and I didn't know anything about it."

"I could tolerate your favoritism towards your own family before, but how could you bear to take away the admission notice that your daughter studied so hard for over ten years to get! You actually gave it to an outsider, are you crazy? Do you have no conscience at all!"

"No, that's not how it is..." Li Yuehua's face was pale, her body was weak, and she opened her mouth but couldn't utter a complete sentence.

She didn't know how to explain it.

Her younger brother begged her, saying that he only had one daughter and his wife had run away. If his daughter couldn't go to university, their family's future would be ruined.

Besides, we're all family, so it doesn't matter who goes to university.

He said his grades were already good enough, and there was no need for him to study any more.

She was bewitched and agreed.

I regretted it afterwards, but it was too late.

Everyone in the village had heard that Li Yuehua was a "brother-supporting demon." Song Yanzhi had almost been beaten by her brother before, but she did nothing. It was said that the couple was arguing about divorce because of this, and some people were even trying to persuade them to stay together.

But she never expected that she would give her daughter's college acceptance letter to her brother's daughter.

This is absolutely outrageous!

After the initial shock, everyone was filled with sighs of regret.

Song Yanzhi covered her mouth, her face full of shock: "So, this is why you wouldn't let me repeat a year of high school and forced me to get married?"
