Chapter 5 Relatives and Friends

Li Muchen trotted all the way to the old public telephone booth on the street, inserted the phone card anxiously, and dialed the familiar number of Su Yao's home.

As soon as the call was connected, he shouted excitedly at the top of his voice: "Su Yao, I made money! I really made money in bond trading this time!" His voice echoed in the small telephone booth, and his excitement seemed to break through this small space.

Su Yao said in surprise and joy: "Mu Chen, this is great! It's not easy to have such an opportunity in 1988!"

Li Muchen gasped for breath, his mind racing back to his cramped, shabby office. Several worn-out desks were crammed together, the plaster on the walls was peeling, and the light coming through the single window was dim. But even in this environment, he seized his opportunity.

He slowed down and continued, "Su Yao, I estimate that I can pay back the money I borrowed from you in two months. In 1988, a few thousand yuan was not a small amount of money. Once the money is paid back, your future will definitely be more prosperous!"

A bright smile bloomed on his face, and his eyes were full of longing for a better life in the future. At this moment, Su Yao on the other end of the phone couldn't help laughing out loud, her heart full of anticipation and joy for the future, and she felt sincerely proud and gratified for him.

Li Muchen's face was filled with joy, and he ran to his uncle's house in a flash. As soon as he entered the courtyard, he shouted excitedly: "Uncle, uncle, I have great news to tell you! I really made a fortune!"

My uncle was tinkering with his bicycle in the yard. When he heard the shout, he looked up and a smile instantly broke out on his face. He put down his tools, dusted himself off, and said, "Hey, kid, you're really good! Tell me more about it!"

Li Muchen walked quickly to his uncle, dancing with excitement. "Uncle, you don't know, but I've been keeping an eye on the market every day, studying it day and night, and finally I got my chance. Look, I've made a lot of money! I can definitely pay you back the money I borrowed from you in two months!"

His uncle looked at him with satisfaction and nodded: "Okay, uncle believes you! But don't get carried away, kid. This money must be spent wisely."

Li Muchen nodded repeatedly, then looked embarrassed. He leaned closer to his uncle and whispered, "Uncle, I have something else I'd like to ask for your help. You know, in today's world, I've made so much money all of a sudden, and I'm always uneasy. You have a wide network of contacts, can you help me find two reliable and strong bodyguards?"

After hearing this, my uncle frowned tightly, put one hand on his waist, touched his chin with the other, and paced back and forth in the yard.

After a long while, he stopped, looked at Li Muchen with a firm gaze and said, "Son, in 1988, there were many opportunities, but people's hearts were also very mixed. You made money, so it's inevitable that people will be jealous. Okay, uncle accepts you! I know a few comrades who retired from the factory security department. They have all been tempered in difficult times. They are strong and honest, and they are also steady and reliable in their work. I'll go talk to them and see if I can hire them to protect you. However, if you hire this bodyguard, you must treat him well and not treat him unfairly. We must be conscientious and loyal."

Li Muchen nodded repeatedly, his eyes full of gratitude: "Thank you, uncle, you still love me! I will definitely not treat them unfairly. When I become rich in the future, I will definitely honor you well!"

The uncle smiled and waved his hand: "Silly child, why are you still talking to me in such a polite way? I just hope that everything goes smoothly for you. Don't worry, I will handle this matter for you immediately!"

The uncle pulled Li Muchen to an empty corner in a panic, with a hint of nervousness and uneasiness in his eyes.

He quietly pulled a wad of money from his pocket and stuffed it into Li Muchen's hand. Then, in a very low voice, he said with a hint of nervousness and worry, "Don't let your aunt know. I'm not afraid of her, but your aunt has been terrified of poverty since she was a child and is always worried that the money will be wasted. If she finds out, I'll definitely not get the money back."

My uncle's name is Yang Jianguo, and he is a well-known workshop director in the factory. In the workshop he is in charge of, the machines are roaring and the workers are working busily and orderly.

My uncle shuttles back and forth between the workshops every day, coordinating and scheduling, arranging production tasks, handling various emergencies, and managing the entire workshop in an orderly manner.

Because of his work, my uncle needs to deal frequently with various departments in the factory. He has a say in everything from factory leaders to grassroots employees.

Because of this, my uncle has accumulated a wide network of contacts in the factory and knows a lot of people. Whether they are technical backbones, supply and marketing personnel, or logistics personnel, my uncle can treat them as brothers and have a harmonious relationship with them.

My aunt, Lin Yushan, had a strikingly thin, oval face. Her narrow eyes, always squinting at me, and her thin lips, always tightly pursed, gave her a difficult look.

She had been poor since she was little, so she was very calculating. But one had to admit that she was a good housekeeper and knew how to manage the household. Every penny of the family's money was carefully managed by her.

Once, in the garden of the community, my aunt Lin Yushan was arguing fiercely with a neighbor.

Lin Yushan's thin oval face flushed red with anger. She squinted her eyes at him, filled with rage. Her thin lips moved rapidly as she shouted, "Your child trampled on the flowers I just planted, and you didn't even apologize. You still think you're being unreasonable?"

The neighbor frowned and retorted, "The child is ignorant. Why are you so harsh? Besides, it's just a few flowers!"

Lin Yushan folded her arms across her chest and snorted coldly, "Ignorant? Then you, as the parent, are also ignorant? I take good care of these flowers every day. Is it easy? Is it so hard to say sorry?"
