Li Muchen, accompanied by his bodyguards, dragged his slightly exhausted body and searched around in the unfamiliar streets. Finally, in a remote alley, they found an inconspicuous little hotel.
After entering the slightly old gate, Li Muchen and the bodyguard completed the check-in procedures after bargaining with the boss at the front desk.
Entering the hotel room, a thick, stale atmosphere overwhelmed me, almost suffocating me. The dim light shone weakly, as if it would go out at any moment. The paint on the walls was peeling and the mottled marks on them looked like scars from the passage of time.
The light coming through the narrow window was pitifully weak. Not only was there a thick layer of dust on the windowsill, but there were also a few small flying insects lying there, not knowing whether to live or die.
The mattress of the single bed was uneven, as if it hid countless secrets. There were indelible stains on the sheets, which were dark in color and emitted a faint musty smell.
There is a shabby wardrobe in the corner, with the door half-open and rickety. Looking closely, there are a few spider webs on the corners, which seem to be telling the desolation and oblivion of this place.
After putting away their luggage, Li Muchen and the bodyguards took a short rest before walking out of the hotel together.
The streets were dimly lit and sparsely populated at night. They walked through the somewhat deserted streets, their eyes eagerly searching for possible clues. As they walked, Li Muchen asked passersby about the factory and the company, his eyes, filled with anticipation, shining brightly in the night.
The bodyguards were also busy. They remained alert at all times, paying attention to the movements around them and listening attentively to every word that might be related.
Li Muchen stopped in front of a small cigarette stand on a street corner. The stall owner was an elderly man, dozing on a stool. Li Muchen gently woke the old man and politely asked, "Uncle, do you know where I can get information about factories and bonds around here?"
The old man raised his head, looked at them sleepily, then thought for a while and said, "I'm not sure about this, but you can go to the factory cluster in front and ask, maybe someone there knows something." Li Muchen hurriedly thanked him and continued to walk towards the factory cluster with the bodyguards.
Arriving at the factory cluster, he found the gates closed and the surroundings utterly silent. Li Muchen checked his watch. It was already late, and the factories had apparently all gone home. He sighed helplessly, but didn't give up. Instead, he searched the area for offices that might still be open or workers still lingering on the streets.
Hard work pays off. Under a streetlight not far away, they spotted a few workers chatting. Li Muchen politely approached them and struck up a conversation. The bodyguards stood aside, silently observing the situation.
"Dear masters, we are new here and would like to learn about the situation of the factories and bonds here. Do you have any news or suggestions?" Li Muchen said sincerely.
The workers were stunned at first, then looked at each other. One of the older workers said, "Bonds? This is not a simple matter. Our factory buys them at a 20% discount, and we want to sell them to you at a 10% discount. It depends on whether you are willing." After hearing this, Li Muchen fell into deep thought.
After leaving the factory area, Li Muchen and his bodyguards walked back to the hotel with a clearer plan and direction for tomorrow's actions.
The next day, at dawn, Li Muchen and his bodyguards returned to the factory area. The workers were already waiting there, their faces filled with anticipation and anxiety.
Just then, a few middle-aged women came over, looking around curiously and muttering, "What are they doing?" The workers saw them and explained with a smile, "We're selling bonds."
One of the aunties' eyes lit up and she quickly said, "Oh, we also have bonds we want to sell!" Several other aunties also agreed.
Li Muchen listened patiently to the aunties' words and said with a smile, "Aunties, I have limited money this time, so I'll take the workers' money first. But don't worry, I'll come back in a few days, and you can give it to me then."
Li Muchen turned to the workers and began to carefully purchase the bonds. He pulled out his portable money detector and carefully checked the authenticity of each bond, comparing the bond number and face value against a pre-prepared list. As he counted, he wrote down the number and amount in a notebook, muttering to himself, "This one is fine, face value 100; this one is also correct."
The workers watched nervously from the side, not daring to make a sound.
After careful inspection and calculation, Li Muchen finally decided to buy 1988 bonds worth RMB from the workers at a 10% discount.
During the transaction, he counted the money over and over again to ensure the amount was correct before handing it to the workers.
After receiving the money, the workers showed relieved smiles on their faces.
Li Muchen shook hands with the workers and said goodbye, "I will come back to buy more in a few days. If you still have some, please prepare them."
After saying this, he turned and left with his bodyguards, ready to embark on a new journey to seek more opportunities. The aunties looked at their retreating figures and whispered to each other: "This young man looks like he has some ability. Let's wait for him to come back."
