Neither the Taiwanese boy nor the little girl had called yet. Chen Rou didn't need to be like Nie Zhao, clocking in at the Nie Group's company from nine to five. The Nie brothers were only planning to take Guo Fuzheng along to learn about the mainland, and she was worried they might go astray. She patted his riding clothes and asked, "Would you like me to come along?"
Nie Jiayu was stunned for a moment, then screamed, "It's true!"
He then shouted upstairs, "Nie Han, hey, Nie Han."
Nie Han also came downstairs carrying her riding clothes: "If you don't call me 'sister' again, I'll tear your mouth apart."
Nie Jiayu said first, "Xi Niang is going to Happy Valley with us."
Then, pointing at Nie Han's nose, he said, "Today I'll teach her to ride a horse. She wants to ride Lightning, and you're not allowed to take it from me."
Nie Han knew Chen Rou better: "Don't even think about it. Maybe your younger sister is a better rider than you."
Nie Jiayu thought that Chen Rou had only attended an artist training class for five months and practiced kung fu to film martial arts movies, but horseback riding would cost a lot of money, which she couldn't possibly have done. So he said to Nie Han, "Come on, according to you, Xi Niang is like Ultraman, able to conquer the universe."
He likes watching Japanese dramas and knows about Ultraman. Nie Han likes watching Hong Kong and Taiwanese dramas, so she doesn't understand them. Moreover, she has always had a mysterious confidence in her younger sister, saying, "I don't care about Ultraman or anything like that. My younger sister is the best in the universe."
She rushed into the restaurant and excitedly asked Chen Rou, "Xi Niang, you haven't put on your riding clothes yet, have you? Let me help you."
Chen Rou simply wanted to meet Guo Fuzheng, who came from the mainland. Since she had never ridden a horse before and had not prepared any riding clothes, she said, "I'll just wear sportswear."
Nie Han was already running upstairs: "How can that be? There's a VIP equestrian gathering today, and most of the elite members' families will be there. It's your first time, so you have to wear equestrian attire. I'll go check your clothes, and if they don't fit, we can call and order new ones. We can go straight to the clothing store in Central to change when we get there."
The Happy Valley that Nie Jiayu mentioned is actually the famous Central Racecourse in Hong Kong.
Whenever there's a competition, it's always packed with people, and when it comes to gambling, people bet huge sums of money.
It turns out that Nie Rong, Mei Lu, Nie Yao, and others were regulars, and the Nie Jiayu brothers often went with them. The Nie family also had several horses they had purchased at the racecourse, which raced every day to help the Nie family make money.
Chen Rou never went because Nie Zhao dared not appear in public.
He didn't even dare to go to the VIP panoramic glass room at the horse farm, because the glass there wasn't bulletproof.
Nie Han went upstairs, and Nie Jiayu called Jiajun from the living room: "Are you guys about to leave?"
Chen Rou walked over quietly and clearly heard Nie Jiajun say, "We'll leave the guest room immediately and depart in ten minutes."
But after hanging up the phone, Nie Jiayu turned around and said to Chen Rou with a smile, "Jiajun and the others just got off the plane and should arrive at the horse farm in half an hour."
Chen Rou nodded, then asked Nie Jiayu, "Which is currently the most upscale hotel in Xiangjiang?"
Nie Jiayu shrugged: "Nie's International Dunne Road Hotel is the highest-star hotel with the most luxurious furnishings. It's also close to Government House. When international dignitaries come, that's where they stay first."
Chen Rou knew this, and she blinked: "What I mean is, where's the most fun place for us young people?"
Nie Jiayu was stunned for a moment before realizing what she meant, and said first, "You can't tell Uncle that I was the one who said it."
She added, "Of course it's the Victoria's Secret Hotel. They started their midnight Victoria's Secret show last year. I haven't been yet, but I've heard from my classmates that it's super hot, super exciting, and will blow your mind."
Chen Rou understood; Nie Jiajun had actually returned yesterday.
If she guessed correctly, she stayed at the Victoria Hotel last night and probably even watched the midnight Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.
But she didn't expose Nie Jiayu's lie. Instead, she said, "If you want to go someday, take me with you."
Just then, Nie Han came downstairs. Nie Jiayu didn't answer aloud, but he quietly gave Chen Rou a thumbs up.
Chen Rou certainly had equestrian outfits in her wardrobe, and more than one. Nie Zhao would just point to them, and the clothing store would pack them up and deliver them to her door. Nie Han helped her pick out a set of light blue trousers with a white T-shirt, a beige suit jacket, and a pair of riding boots. He packed it all up and said excitedly, "Okay, let's go."
...
The elite members' day gathering at Central Racecourse is more often referred to as a "baby club" or "matchmaking event."
Since most of the guests are children from wealthy and influential families, they come to train in horseback riding, have tea and chat together, get closer to each other, and build relationships.
When Mei Lu was in charge, Nie Han and Nie Jiayu were her calling cards, used to build relationships with other wives and increase social connections. But since Mei Lu left, and because Chen Rou disliked socializing, the connections between other wealthy families and the Nie family suddenly ceased.
At first, everyone naively thought that Mei Lu would come back, and they didn't think that Chen Rou, with her gentle and weak personality, could be a good wife to the richest family. Many people were also secretly waiting to see her make a fool of herself because she had become closer to Nie Yao before and was now married to Nie Zhao.
But things are different now, of course.
Nie Jiajun and Guo Fuzheng arrived early, and had already changed their clothes and gone to the horse farm to find horses.
When Chen Rou and Nie Han were changing clothes, Nie Jiayu would say in an extremely dramatic and excited tone whenever someone passed by, "My little niece is changing clothes inside, she'll be out soon!"
A woman's status in a wealthy family is not determined by herself, but by the actions of the men she marries.
Because someone fabricated a tabloid story, Nie Zhao secretly followed and beat up the reporter. So far, Chen Rou has very few tabloid stories in the media. Whenever she does appear in the newspaper, it's always photos of her at public events. Moreover, Nie Zhao carefully selects photos of his wife looking dashing and incredibly beautiful.
