Colonel Rango must have been intimidated by those two poker-faced, yet efficient soldiers.
Fearing he would be outshone when he spoke later, he was frantically studying and rehearsing his prepared remarks.
With a few rings of the bell, everyone turned to look at the podium; the governor was about to deliver a welcoming speech.
The photojournalists crouched low and slipped over, half their lenses aimed at the podium and the other half at the audience.
The two invited military representatives stood to one side with their hands behind their backs. Chen Rou knew them best; they were actually quite nervous, afraid of making a mistake, but they put on a poker face and didn't want to be messed with.
By the way, just before the governor took the stage to give his speech, everyone applauded. Chen Rou took a step back, as if she was about to fall, and her hand fell backward, just in time to touch the corsage on Brother Lin's chest.
The corsage was about to fall to the ground, but she quickly grabbed it back.
Lin Yige wanted to wear it himself, but Chen Rou smiled and waved her hand, putting it on for him personally. After examining it carefully, she turned to look in front of him, glanced down at the corsage, and gave Lin Yige a smile to the camera that was filming him.
Chen Rou had, of course, replaced the brooch below the corsage.
I just helped Brother Lin put on his corsage and also put the listening device on him. With that, the two key figures are taken care of.
After the governor gave a brief welcoming speech, Colonel Rango took the stage to deliver his address.
His lines also made Chen Rou feel that he must be the 'Robin' himself, because the current governor is a very rational person who realizes that the return is an inevitable trend. The theme he expresses is to thank the citizens of Hong Kong for their support and cooperation over the years, as well as for their contributions to his empire and the royal family.
But Colonel Rango spoke at length about how much Great Britain had sacrificed, and how much he himself had sacrificed.
In short, he spoke with a resentful tone throughout, his voice even more sour than the yogurt on the cold dinner table.
Next came the speech by the distinguished guest, a battalion-level officer.
When he went on stage, James, who was next to Chen Rou, said, "Oh my God, his eyes are suffocating me."
Standing on James's other side was Mrs. Maye, the wife of the Supreme Court Justice.
Chen Rou felt that she was being squeezed by the corset dress, but she also said, "Oh my god, his eyes are making it hard for me to breathe."
As a battalion-level officer, he was naturally not very old, with thick eyebrows and piercing eyes.
He spoke Mandarin with a slight southern accent. He first thanked the organizers of the banquet, the Governor, and Colonel Lango. But then he changed the subject and said that although he appreciated the Governor's hospitality, they were new to the area and very busy with work, so they could not accompany everyone to the banquet and needed to rush back to their work.
He then emphasized that he hoped Colonel Rango would provide them with strong cooperation and support in the coming year so that they could complete the military defense reform task on schedule before their return.
Then the other person stood at attention, saluted everyone, and after stepping down from the stage, shook hands with everyone in the audience one by one to say goodbye.
What kind of style do mainland Chinese soldiers have?
Are you sure they're leaving now?
Their behavior made them seem even more mysterious, aloof, and unapproachable, which in turn aroused everyone's fear and curiosity.
Whether Sir James was a true patron of China or not, he was very enthusiastic. However, Ms. Maye, dressed in a tight-fitting outfit, was really struggling to breathe, and she deliberately avoided the soldier's handshake.
As the handsome, young battalion commander, one in a million, passed by Chen Rou, he shook hands with her, even though it's not customary to kiss a lady's hand in mainland China. However, Chen Rou was surprised to notice that the corners of his eyes were slightly upturned, with a hint of a smile in them.
It has to be said, it truly deserves to be the result of careful selection, one in a million.
This young battalion commander isn't particularly handsome, though.
But he exuded a murderous aura; he was so alert, his eyes were like those of a tiger or a leopard, and he was incredibly intimidating.
It was in that instant of shaking hands that Chen Rou suddenly understood the heart of this soldier who was still young but was her senior.
He was actually very scared at that moment, but he kept thinking of a sentence, a quote, to arm himself.
That quote is: Imperialism is a paper tiger!
His oppressive tone and gaze were entirely supported by that one quote.
If she has the chance to get to know him better in the future, Chen Rou will definitely ask him if that's what he thinks.
At the same moment, in the hospital, Nie Zhao was looking at Nie Rong with annoyance.
Nie Rong is really something. Not long ago, Nie Zhao thought he was going to die, but not only did he not die, but Nie Jiajun and Nie Jiayu just messed around with him and he was transferred directly from the intensive care unit to a regular ward.
I can eat and sleep well, and the weight I used to have is gradually coming back.
He was watching TV at the moment. During the evening news, there was a five-minute segment broadcasting the Governor's Palace banquet. Ah Yuan, in order to watch TV, reluctantly sat on a small stool next to the hospital bed.
Suddenly, seeing two soldiers come out, Nie Rong, who was senile, blurted out, "That must be A Yao, it's A Yao."
Nie Zhao stood behind his son with his arms crossed, and said irritably, "No."
Nie Rong added, “That’s the Governor’s Mansion. How could he walk so fast and be so rude? Ah Sheng, you have to go to the scene and accompany him. That’s the Governor’s Mansion. He was being a bit impolite. That’s not good.”
If you were to say that Nie Rong was sober, he was clearly not.
He made a mistake, mistaking the two soldiers for Nie Yao and Nie Zhao for Liang Lisheng.
But he remained stuck in the memories of the old era, feeling that Nie Yao hadn't done enough.
