Chapter 596 The Grand Finale (Part 1)

Huo Qi had been to the mainland and had seen Yue Zhongqi and Mao Zige dancing and singing on the beach, but he didn't know what they sang.

The Internationale?

He was preoccupied with worries at the time and didn't listen at all, so how could he possibly remember?

However, Yue Zhongqi quickly sent a message with a very simple sentence: There has never been a savior.

He's said to be a top celebrity right now, a rising star, and it turns out he really is quite capable.

Huo Qi didn't remember the song, but this sentence made him suddenly understand.

Yes, from the arrival of the British fleet to their departure, Huo Qi, as a native of the colony, also fell into a strange cycle, expecting and hoping that others would give him something.

But in reality, there has never been a savior. Dignity must be earned and fought for through one's own abilities.

If he tries to deliberately show off, he will become another Lin Yong, Lin Sir. But if he wants to achieve something, he should just keep a calm mind and do it step by step. Then, he will be welcoming his colleagues, comrades-in-arms, and partners. He just needs to keep a calm mind.

It may sound simple, but those involved are often blinded by their own perspectives, especially given Huo Qi's naturally extreme nature.

This stubborn man, who was always the one who had to fawn over others, was someone Yue Zhongqi frequently texted and called to check on. He never replied, but at this moment, his stubbornness finally softened, and he replied to the text message.

He said: "Thanks, Captain Yue. See you tonight. Let's have a late-night snack together another day."

Yue Zhongqi was, of course, on the mainland, currently in a military command vehicle, dressed in a police uniform, but relaxed.

Along the ten-mile stretch of road, he was the most relaxed one. Now, upon seeing the text message, he leaned back and laughed, "Little rascal, inviting me for a late-night snack? I'm going to have to rip him off."

Two young team members sat behind him, one of whom asked, "Captain Yue, what are you muttering about?"

Yue Zhongqi turned around with a smile, instinctively wanting to crack a joke, but seeing the young special police officer's face, which, though tanned, couldn't hide his youth and vigor, he stopped smiling and said, "Focus on your work. Don't meddle in your superiors' business."

The camp remains, but the soldiers come and go. The older ones gradually retire, leaving behind forever young men and women. He gradually becomes an old man, as stinky and hard as a rock in a latrine, hated by the young people.

He tried to be kind to the children, occasionally treating them to a late-night snack, encouraging them to share their opinions, holding their hands and chatting with them, inviting them to offer criticism, and sometimes boasting after drinking that he would change. However, his memories of war and glory, victory and defeat, were difficult for him to share with young people.

Unlike him, the young men were not as shrewd as he was. They were prone to getting carried away when they were successful and needed to be constantly reminded to stay calm. So, without thinking, he blurted out, "You guys are the worst soldiers I've ever led. You better behave yourselves."

After his subordinates were disciplined, he looked back at his text messages with smug satisfaction. He couldn't help but text Chen Ke again, telling him about Huo Qi's invitation to a late-night snack, and how, since Huo Qi was so cooperative, and with Dong Ye's help, they would have Macau under their thumb in two years. He had to share this joy with his old comrade-in-arms.

Chen Ke had a heavy workload and was busy, so he didn't have time to reply to his text messages outside of work.

Yue Zhongqi was still on standby, only a dozen minutes or so, when the walkie-talkie rang, the mission had arrived.

After listening to the walkie-talkie, he got out of the car and strode forward, silently thinking, "Luckily, I still have Chen Ke."

His honest, kind, and meticulous old comrade-in-arms.

But then he remembered what Chen Rou had vaguely mentioned: that there was a possibility that Chen Ke would die very early, and his joy, his victory, his glory, everything he had, would be left with no one to tell and no one to share it with.

Yue Zhongqi felt a moment of sadness, and tears almost welled up in his eyes, but unlike Boss Nie, who was sensitive and prone to tears, he had a strong heart. He only cared about today and this moment. He strode forward and threw himself into his work.

And just as fast-moving and agile as him was Master Dong.

They were to set off for the Convention and Exhibition Centre around 8 p.m. Although Repulse Bay was closer, the road conditions were better from the Peak Road, so Nie Zhao and his wife took A Yuan up the mountain after finishing their daytime schedule.

Dong Ye is not only a shrewd scholar, but also a scheming womanizer and a real green tea b*tch.

His leg had clearly healed long ago, and he even exercised frequently at home, yet he still needs a wheelchair when he leaves the station.

Today, he finally stopped pretending. As soon as he saw A Yuan get out of the car, he ran away incredibly fast.

But when he saw A Yuan's hair, he frowned: "When did you get your hair cut? Why is it so short?"

A-Yuan touched his head and pouted slightly. He was now paying attention to his appearance and didn't like people saying he wasn't good-looking.

Although Master Dong didn't say anything, his expression clearly showed his disdain. As for A Yuan's hair, he had even shaved it a few times himself, and he thought he looked incredibly handsome. At this moment, Master Er stepped forward and said calmly, "You look even more handsome this way."

Ah Yuan's hair was secretly grown by the nanny when Nie Zhao was away some time ago.

He grew it into the mushroom haircut that was most popular among little boys in Hong Kong, making his head look round and cute.

Mr. Dong really liked that hairstyle. Chen Rou took a picture of it with a digital camera and gave it to him. He looked at it every day.

But now his dad is back, and his dad doesn't like the mushroom haircut anymore. He had the hairdresser shave it off when he got home in the afternoon. Now he has a buzz cut, and his forehead is exposed, making him look much older.

Grandpa Dong held A Yuan's hand and asked with a smile, "Your dad and mom are both very busy today and don't have time to spend with you. Grandpa will take you to a really fun place later, do you want to?"
