Chapter 131 A Message from the Boss
Xiao Wei was stunned by his older brother's unusual way of saying goodbye, and in his daze, he blurted out another sentence.
"Don't let men into the house."
Xiao Cheng's expression was indifferent, as if he were just giving a casual instruction, but Xiao Wei was even more confused after hearing it.
"Aren't you going to let Uncle Fugui and Chen Dafu in so they can take the roasted chestnuts to sell?"
Xiao Cheng glanced at him, then at Luo Shiliu and Xiao Dazhuang, who were looking at the sky, the ground, and their toes, and cleared his throat as if nothing had happened: "Except for the people who came to get chestnuts."
Xiao Wei nodded as if he understood: "Okay, I understand. We can't let men who don't sell chestnuts into the house."
Luo Shiliu glanced at the man who seemed to want to speak but hesitated, then added seriously, "The man who sells roasted chestnuts isn't allowed to come into the house except to pick up chestnuts."
"If any man dares to force his way in, go find your brother Haozi and have him beat the man to a pulp!"
"That's right!" Xiao Dazhuang nodded in agreement. "When we get back, you tell us who the man who broke into your house was, and we'll beat him to a pulp!"
Xiao Cheng remained silent for a moment, without refuting.
Xiao Wei understood: "Okay."
"Tell me what's wrong." Xiao Cheng glanced at the door one last time before turning and walking out.
“I will call home every day.”
What is a telephone?
Before Xiao Wei could even ask a question, the three people outside the door had already walked far away. The sky was still overcast, with only a thin layer of light illuminating the endless road ahead.
Light footsteps sounded from behind.
Xiao Wei closed the door, turned around, and sure enough, saw Bai Lu stretching and walking from the main house to the kitchen.
"My brother is gone."
Bai Lu covered her mouth and yawned, then hummed in agreement and continued walking towards the kitchen.
Xiao Wei found it strange that his older brother seemed so reluctant to part, yet Bai Lu showed no reaction at all.
Has Bai Lu not realized that her elder brother has gone on a long trip and will not be back for a long time, unlike usual when he goes out to run some errands and comes back the same day?
"My older brother has gone on a long trip," Xiao Wei kindly reminded him. "He won't be back for a long time."
"I know, hurry up and brush your teeth, wash your face, and eat breakfast." A light voice came from the kitchen.
There were wontons on the small square table in the kitchen, still steaming hot; I wonder when Xiao Cheng bought them.
After washing up, Bai Lu sat down at the table with Xiao Wei to eat wontons. Listening to the three electric chestnut stir-fry machines buzzing on the stove, she felt that it was much quieter than usual.
"Why is there another machine?" After listening for a while, Xiao Wei finally realized something was wrong.
Bai Lu calmly replied, "Your brother did it."
Xiao Wei looked surprised: "When did you make it? I was at home for the past two days and didn't see my brother take apart the electric fan or make a new roasted chestnut machine."
"I don't know either." Bai Lu shook her head slightly: "Maybe it was taken apart where they bought the electric fan and then reassembled when they got back. Maybe you went grocery shopping with me then."
"Then how did you know before I did?"
Xiao Wei talked a lot today.
Bai Lu stared at the wontons in the spoon, pursed her lips, and said, "He told me."
"You didn't see your older brother off today, what did he tell you?" Xiao Wei asked innocently, not understanding.
Bai Lu's lips twitched slightly: "It was told to me in my dream."
Not forgetting to refute the facts: "I did give it to him."
“You didn’t see him off. When your brother left, you weren’t even up yet.” Xiao Wei felt sorry for her.
Bai Lu repeated, "I gave it to them."
"You didn't send it."
Xiao Wei became a contrarian today: "Didn't you tell me that one should be honest, keep one's word, and either do it or not?"
Bai Lu really wanted to pat his little bald head and knock away that stubborn steel bar that wouldn't give up until he got an answer.
"Yes, yes, you said you didn't send it, so you didn't send it." Fine, I won't argue with the little flowers of our motherland.
The little flower insisted on arguing: "You gave it to me."
Bai Lu: "..."
He even found a reason to prove it: "Every time you say the same three words, it's the opposite of what you mean."
When did your little brain become smarter?
Did shaving his head prevent his intelligence from being hidden by his hair, causing it to skyrocket?
Bai Lu nodded: "Yes, I delivered it."
"I didn't see you see my brother off." Xiao Wei still didn't believe it.
Bai Lu: "..."
"Hurry up and finish your breakfast so you can go to school!"
The noise wasn't very loud, not even as loud as the buzzing of the stir-fry machine, but Xiao Wei immediately became quiet.
It gives me the feeling of being sent to school by my older brother.
After finishing breakfast, Xiao Wei slung his backpack over his shoulder and headed out the door. He didn't forget the task his older brother had given him and turned back to instruct Bai Lu.
"My older brother said not to open the door for men."
Bai Lu was so angry she laughed: "Don't I need to open the door to do business?"
“Except for Uncle Fugui and Chen Dafu.” Xiao Wei understood his elder brother’s words thoroughly and gave the correct answer.
Bai Lu retorted, "If I were to start a new business selling chestnuts with a male boss, would I not even allow him to come in and pick up his goods?"
Xiao Wei had never thought about this kind of question, nor had he asked his older brother what to do. He gripped the backpack straps with his little hands, frowning as he pondered, unsure how to answer.
After thinking for a long time, he finally managed to say, "Haven't many people already partnered with you to sell chestnuts?"
Bai Lu leaned leisurely against the door frame and teased him, "Who would complain about having too much money?"
Xiao Wei thought of the roof that was always falling off and letting in drafts, and nodded: "We need to save more money to build a bigger house. Once the house is built, you and your older brother can have a nephew."
Bai Lu was outmaneuvered and speechless. Well, it seemed that the little bald guy was really going to have a hard time with his nephew.
"Alright, alright, hurry up and go to school, or you'll be late. I've got what you said."
