"You're just making up charges and trying to force us to cut down chestnut trees? Who gave you that right?!"
"Do you wear these clothes just to bully ignorant common people?"
"Where is your conscience?!"
Have you all lost your conscience?!
If they weren't forced into a corner and had no other choice, why would ordinary people pick up such simple farming tools as shovels, hoes, and carrying poles just to defend their last means of livelihood?
But the common people had no idea that the "police officers" in front of them, dressed in police uniforms, were not real police officers at all, but all bodyguards of Li Chengbin in disguise.
The bodyguard leading the group was at least literate, but the others in the group barely knew any characters.
They couldn't understand the questions Bai Lu asked, so how could they answer them?
The bodyguard had no choice but to ask Li Chengbin for help.
Li Chengbin, overwhelmed with his own problems, had no time to pay attention to him. He was already scolding Ding Wuliang in a low voice: "Did you grow up eating shit? How could you make such a low-level mistake!"
Ding Wuliang had no way to express his suffering.
His department is just a small logistics department, not a department directly under the county government. Its scope of authority is limited. What else can it do? Even so, there are still many loopholes.
Hopefully, the girl isn't that knowledgeable or that clever; otherwise, their trip will have been in vain.
Li Chengbin's father-in-law is currently at a crucial stage of his promotion. His performance cannot be compromised in any way, and Li Chengbin cannot use any connections that are even remotely respectable. If even the slightest mishap is reported to the city authorities, he'll be finished.
Otherwise, Li Chengbin wouldn't have let someone as insignificant as Ding Wuliang do things for him.
We will not allow a bunch of brain-trained but physically weak idiots to impersonate officials and suppress troublemakers.
Now, however, they are all incompetent and can't even retaliate when people point fingers and scold them. It's infuriating!
"If you can't think of a solution, you can stay here and farm the land; you don't need to go back to the city to work!"
Ding Wuliang's glasses twitched, and cold sweat poured down his face. But it was too late. The loopholes in the document regarding closing mountains and returning farmland to forest had been exposed, and there was no way to salvage the situation.
"Let's postpone the mountain closure for a while and think of other solutions. For now, let's collect the sand."
“If we collect the sand, the chestnuts won’t be able to be stored, and Bai Lu and Xiao Cheng’s business will still fall through. We can seal off Chestnut Mountain when the chestnuts are in bloom and bearing fruit.”
Once the chestnuts bear fruit, we can close the mountain and cut down the trees, which will give Xiao Cheng, Bai Lu, and this group of unruly people a better chance to strike back.
Li Chengbin's furious face was instantly replaced by a sinister smile, and a blatant malice flashed in his eyes.
After receiving the signal, Ding Wuliang stepped forward, adjusted his glasses, and said loudly to Bai Lu and the Xiao family villagers behind her, "The document for returning farmland to forest was taken by mistake. The mountain closure order is temporarily invalid. Hand over the sand."
This time, the villagers of Xiao's family stopped making a fuss.
All eyes turned expectantly to the girl in front of the crowd, whose whole body shone with golden light under the sunlight—Bai Lu.
Bai Lu still held the documents in her hand, and with a sneer, she raised her hand and said, "Mr. Ding Wuliang, if I hadn't seen you wearing glasses with my own eyes, I would have thought you were seeing things."
"River sand and gravel are under the management of the water resources administration department. Not to mention that the sand collected by the villagers was washed up by the river and does not constitute illegal mining. Even if you want to forcibly take back the sand you collected, please bring the correct, reasonable and legal documents for sand collection."
"Instead of bringing this document stamped with the seal of some unknown small department of the county government to collect the sand, I don't know if you forgot to wear your glasses and got the stamp wrong, or if you brought the wrong document again?"
Ding Wuliang's expression changed, and cold sweat dripped to the ground again.
The girl's smile was too dazzlingly beautiful, her clear voice too fair and just, and her aura was even stronger than that of his boss's boss, leaving his mind blank.
All the dark schemes that had been suppressed in his heart were laid bare under the sunlight and strangled by justice.
She spoke clearly and precisely, pointing out the fatal error in black and white, leaving him speechless.
When Li Chengbin saw Ding Wuliang's lifeless state, he knew that things had been exposed and he couldn't find a way to cover it up.
I was so angry that my vision blurred and I almost fainted.
Fortunately, the bodyguard was quick-witted and helped him up. Li Chengbin glanced at the more than two hundred troublemakers on the other side who were not giving an inch, and then at his own sixteen bodyguards and ten strong men carrying sand. The strength was completely unequal.
A direct assault would not have been able to breach Xiao Family Village.
They could only turn their attention back to Bailu and the documents.
"Who says it has to be an approval document from the water resources administration department? The county government's seal is the most important thing. Once a document is stamped, it takes effect immediately. You didn't even graduate high school, what do you know! If you keep arguing and obstructing official business, the police will take you back and lock you up!"
The "police officer" instantly transformed into a menacing figure, reaching behind his back to pull out handcuffs and snapping them open with a click.
Is this a tactic of misleading the public while simultaneously threatening and intimidating them?
Bai Lu remained fearless and composed, speaking slowly and deliberately: "Mr. Li, would you like me to give you a briefing on the scope of responsibilities of the various functional departments of the county government? Or perhaps have this Mr. Ding Wuliang show us his work ID so that everyone can see what kind of trivial matters his small department can handle?"
Ding Wuliang instinctively covered his work ID card on his chest, his guilty conscience instantly revealed.
Li Chengbin wished he could kill Bai Lu on the spot.
She always ruins his plans. This damn woman didn't even graduate high school, how does she know everything!
The elderly couple gave Xiao Guofu a meaningful look.
Xiao Guofu immediately waved his hand behind him, beckoning a large group of strong and robust young men from the Xiao family to come forward and protect Bai Lu behind them, while their shovels and hoes were pointed at Li Chengbin and the others.
"Aren't you going to leave or do you want me to take you home?"
"roll!"
"Get out! All of you, get back home!"
"You bandits who just throw out a random charge and come here with a fake mountain closure order to try and take away our grain? You have no conscience! Go back to your bandit den!"
