Chapter 166 Ring Ring
The powerful figure behind Pingcheng Market has some direct connections with Li Chengbin's father-in-law, while the underworld is managed by the big boss. Currently, the two sides are barely keeping to themselves.
Even those small gangs that made a living in the alleys had heard of Xiao Cheng's name, even if they had never met him.
Just send a message.
Xiao Cheng is no longer working under the big boss, but who can guarantee that he won't make a comeback?
Anyone who dares to mess with the devil's shop will die without even knowing how they died; even petty thugs can be killed.
The message was spread immediately upon receipt, even reaching stray dogs, for fear that one of them might suddenly go out of control and bark wildly at the store entrance, looking for trouble.
The person the big boss placed in Pingcheng used to be at odds with Xiao Cheng. He had done all the things Xiao Cheng had done, but the results were not ideal, and he was always outdone by Xiao Cheng.
The big boss only values the top talents in the industry; he doesn't even consider the second-best.
Now that Xiao Cheng is gone, he has begun to make a name for himself and can occasionally speak up in front of the big boss.
He was overjoyed that Xiao Cheng had opened a shop in Pingcheng and returned to the right path, so how could he possibly stop him? He immediately accepted the invitation to the dinner and set off.
The heavy weight on my heart finally lifted, and in my joy, I drank myself into a stupor.
He even called Xiao Cheng a brother, saying things like they would look after each other in the future, that he would be there immediately if needed, and that he was more useful than the people above him.
Everything that could be said, and everything that couldn't be said, was said.
All sorts of fine wines and dishes were served. If they couldn't finish the food, they would drink. Drinking and toasting is the most direct way for men to express their friendship. One cup after another was finished.
After dinner, we went to a nightclub.
More and more random drinks were brought into the private room.
After a round of drinks, Xiao Cheng went to the restroom and then went to the front desk to make a phone call.
Bai Lu and Xiao Wei were sitting in the main room, their hands supporting their chins, in front of a table full of delicious food.
The little pufferfish had puffed-up, angry faces.
"Clang, clang, clang, clang, clang..." The old clock on the wall struck seven times, and it was already dark.
Bai Lu puffed out her cheeks: "Your brother doesn't keep his word."
Xiao Wei shook his head, resting his chin on his hand: "Big brother might be busy with something, it's not that he doesn't keep his word."
Bai Lu snorted: "He must have gone drinking again. If he comes back drunk again, see what I'll do..."
"Ring ring—"
Xiao Wei's eyes lit up, his gaze fixed intently on the high table: "Big Brother called back!"
The two, one big and one small, got up and ran to the high table.
As soon as Bai Lu picked up the phone, a very soft voice came through the receiver: "Lulu".
She has a tsundere (arrogant) personality trait, but not much of it.
The chill of the daytime was gone, replaced by gentleness, though not much. Her voice was deep and clear, indicating she was still in good spirits.
I've had some drinks, but I'm not drunk yet, though I'll be soon.
Having learned from previous experiences, Bai Lu quickly deduced the change in the relationship between the big boss and the child from Xiao Cheng's unusual tone.
"Dinner is ready." She said in a flat tone.
Xiao Cheng, on the other end of the phone, could tell the girl was unhappy, so he explained the whole story in detail.
His tone was even softer afterward: "You guys eat first, don't wait for me, I might be a little late."
Bai Lu gleaned from Xiao Cheng's brief explanation that he hadn't eaten much, as he had originally planned to eat at home, but after a few drinks, the conversation turned to the nightclub.
In business, socializing is unavoidable.
Local people, each with their own responsibilities, interact with each other for mutual benefit, and the necessary face should still be given.
Bailu understands the reasoning, but she can't help but worry: "Don't drink too much alcohol."
I had so much to say, but when the words reached my lips, I realized it was pointless. I had already given all the instructions I needed to give, so all that was left was: "Come back soon."
Xiao Cheng replied, "Okay."
After hanging up the phone, Bai Lu and Xiao Wei sat back down in front of the table full of delicious food and started eating with gusto.
"Is Big Brother really not coming back for dinner?" Xiao Wei asked persistently as he stuffed spicy chicken into his mouth.
Bai Lu picked up a piece of mustard greens to comfort him: "Your brother is too busy. He doesn't have time to come back for dinner, and he's already had enough to drink."
Xiao Wei noticed the slight resentment in Bai Lu's tone, picked up the bitter mustard greens from his bowl, and ate them.
"Don't be sad. Your brother needs to make money now and doesn't have much time to have meals with us. Once your brother has made enough money, built a big house, and had your little nephew, your brother will be able to have meals with you every day."
Bai Lu's lips twitched slightly: "Besides your little nephew, is there anything else on your mind?"
"have."
Xiao Wei said earnestly, "My little niece."
Bai Lu: "..."
"Well said, don't say it again."
After dinner, showering, washing clothes, hanging them up, and taking a walk, it was already nine o'clock.
Xiao Cheng hasn't returned yet.
Bai Lu sat reading in the moonlit courtyard, while Xiao Wei sat obediently on a small stool beside her, his textbook on a chair, quietly doing his homework.
"Knock knock knock—"
A knock came at the door.
Xiao Wei immediately looked up and exchanged a glance with Bai Lu, both seeing confusion in each other's eyes.
The door wasn't locked. If Xiao Cheng came back, he would have just pushed the door open and come in without knocking.
Who could it be so late?
Xiao Wei raised his voice and asked, "Who?"
"I am Chen Chunli."
The once brash and arrogant voice was now calm and quiet; instead of banging on the door, they were actually knocking.
Xiao Wei was a little surprised and turned to look at Bai Lu: "Should we open the door?"
Chen Chunli has too many criminal records, and Xiao Wei doesn't think there's anything good coming from her showing up late at night.
Bai Lu said, "She's pregnant."
Moreover, Chen Chunli's due date is in the next two weeks, and Wang Hao went out with Xiao Cheng to run errands today.
