Chapter 216 The Sister-in-Law Has the Final Say
The new store opened and business was great on the first day.
A total of 28 color TVs (both large and small) were sold, 39 black and white TVs were sold, and 15 tape recorders were sold.
There are countless small electrical appliances such as light bulbs, light tubes, and flashlights.
After settling the accounts and leaving Zhang San and Li Si to watch the shop, Xiao Cheng, Bai Lu, Luo Shiliu, and the others went out to the restaurant.
A group of grown men were so hungry their stomachs were growling that they couldn't wait to get to a restaurant and bury their heads in their food.
Bai Lu wasn't very hungry. It wasn't even eleven o'clock yet, but Xiao Cheng gave her two pineapple buns and a bottle of milk. No one else received any; he only gave them to her.
Everyone was busy at the time and didn't even have time to drink water, let alone eat. She was the only one who had food and felt a little embarrassed. But after smelling the delicious aroma of the pineapple bun, her embarrassment vanished instantly.
She loves pineapple buns!
Delicious pineapple buns!
"Bai Lu, you've finally finished your work." A voice suddenly rang out from ahead.
Two figures, one large and one small, appeared with the sound. The larger one was Yu Fugui, and the smaller one was Xiao Wei, who was pouting resentfully, his face full of sadness and heartbreak at being deceived.
Yu Fugui brought Xiao Wei to Xiao Cheng and Bai Lu and explained helplessly, "Xiao Wei has been waiting for you to pick him up. I told him that your new store is very busy and you must be busy, so you might not have time to come and pick him up. I suggested that we go eat first and then come back to wait, but he refused and wouldn't go anywhere. He just waited for you to pick him up in the store."
"I noticed you hadn't come yet, so you must still be busy. I asked someone to watch the shop for you and brought Xiaowei over."
Who knew you guys had not only finished your work, but were already at the restaurant entrance? You've obviously forgotten about Xiao Wei.
How could Xiao Wei not be sad, upset, or resentful? He's so strong that he didn't cry on the spot.
Bai Lu awkwardly patted the little guy's head and explained softly, "The shop was busy with lots of customers, we just finished... Uncle Fugui, have you eaten yet? Let's eat together before going back?"
Yu Fugui waved his hands repeatedly: "No need, no need. The stall owner next door who helps me watch the shop went to eat noodles earlier and brought me a portion too. I'll eat it when I get back. You guys take Xiaowei to eat it."
After saying goodbye, Yu Fugui went back.
All the way to the restaurant, Xiao Wei was sullen and kept his head down without saying a word, no matter how Bai Lu tried to coax him.
Luo Shiliu and the others took turns trying to coax him, but to no avail. The little guy ignored everyone, neither crying nor making a fuss, and he didn't say a word.
Once inside the restaurant, he sat down next to Bailu, staring at the table without moving, as if he had become a statue.
When ordering, Bai Lu asked Xiao Wei what he wanted to eat. He was silent for a while before saying that anything was fine.
His taciturn temperament is just like Xiao Cheng's.
Bai Lu couldn't do anything about him.
The only thing that could be done was to have Xiao Cheng give Xiao Wei a big chicken leg to comfort him when the food was served. After all, the little guy loved his older brother the most, and a chicken leg from his older brother would surely make him feel better.
But Xiao Cheng not only didn't clamp it.
He also said, "He has his own hands."
Perhaps because Xiao Wei's sadness was too obvious, Bai Lu didn't see that his sadness doubled because of those words.
It must have completely broken its heart.
Bai Lu turned and pinched Xiao Cheng's sleeve, whispering, "Hurry up and put the chicken leg on Xiao Wei's plate. It's your fault for not reminding me. I told you before that Xiao Wei is with Uncle Fugui. Remember to remind me when you go to eat."
"I forgot."
Xiao Cheng had no recollection of anyone named Xiao Wei.
When he was busy, he wanted to take Bailu out to eat; when he was done, he wanted to take Bailu out to eat; he only remembered to take Bailu out to eat.
Xiao Wei knew without even thinking that his older brother had forgotten him; this had happened often before and was not surprising at all. What saddened him was that his sister-in-law had also forgotten him.
His sister-in-law was the best to him, how could he have forgotten...
My sister-in-law actually forgot about him...
Seeing that the little guy's face was getting sadder and sadder, Bai Lu thought that Xiao Cheng had overheard what she and Xiao Cheng had said, so she quickly explained, "Maybe I didn't explain it clearly to your brother. It's not that he forgot, nor that I forgot. I was just too busy. I was planning to pick you up as soon as I finished."
"I was just about to remember when I was leaving, and then you and Uncle Fugui arrived, and then it suddenly dawned on me..."
In the end, Bai Lu herself didn't know what she was saying anymore, so she decisively picked up a chicken leg and put it in Xiao Wei's bowl.
"The chicken leg is delicious, you should try it."
Xiao Wei stared at the chicken leg in the bowl for a second, his sad eyes lingered for a moment, and then he silently ate the chicken leg.
Seeing that the little guy didn't refuse, Bai Lu finally breathed a sigh of relief and put another piece of braised pork on his plate.
Whether it's a steamed fish or a piece of garlic ribs, the little guy eats it all obediently.
Bai Lu could tell that the little guy's sad mood had disappeared, probably because he had been healed by the delicious food.
I can finally eat in peace.
However, as soon as Bai Lu reached out with her chopsticks, she discovered that her bowl was already piled high with food.
She had no idea when Xiao Cheng had picked up the food; it was so quiet and the plate was so full that she had no idea at all.
If it weren't for the envious and gossipy glances from the group of men across from her, which landed in her bowl, she wouldn't have subconsciously lowered her head and silently ate her meal like Xiao Wei.
Midway through, someone suggested having a couple of drinks, but before Xiao Cheng could even speak, Bai Lu declined on his behalf.
The reason given was that he needed to mind the shop and do business in the afternoon.
Xiao Cheng tacitly agreed.
The brothers suddenly realized that from now on, whenever their sister-in-law was at the dinner table, they would not ask their eldest brother whether or not to drink alcohol.
Just ask your sister-in-law; she'll decide!
When Zhang San and Li Si arrived, they would arrange for someone to deliver their food back to them. They would order two extra portions of food, which the waiter would pack up, and Xiao Dazhuang would deliver it back before returning to eat.
Xiao Dazhuang lost the rock-paper-scissors game, so he gave it to him.
Bai Lu suspected that the honest man had been tricked because Xiao Cheng said that Xiao Dazhuang was always the one who lost.
Poor child.
After dinner, Luo Shiliu, Xiao Dazhuang, and Wang Hao went home with Bai Lu to learn how to make sugar-roasted chestnuts.
On the first day of the new store's opening, Mr. Xiao had to stay and oversee things, so he had to go home early in the evening.
Xiao Zhenwei waited all morning under a big tree not far from Xiao Cheng's house, but Bai Lu and Xiao Cheng did not return. He was furious.
He swore that if Bai Lu didn't come back with Xiao Cheng, he would give her a good scolding.
"Hey you, have you brought enough tuition fees?"
Upon hearing the word "tuition fee," Xiao Zhenwei instinctively turned around, but it wasn't Bai Lu or Xiao Cheng.
The one who spoke was Luo Shiliu.
Standing at Xiao Cheng's door were not only Luo Shiliu, but also Bai Lu and Xiao Wei, as well as two other people who often worked with Xiao Cheng: Xiao Dazhuang and Wang Hao.
Xiao Zhenwei's desire to give Bai Lu a thorough dressing-down vanished instantly, and his plan to cut tuition fees was also completely overturned. In front of someone who doesn't listen to reason and only talks about fists, saying even one more word is a crime, and everyone deserves to be beaten.
At worst, he can learn how to roast chestnuts and then go back to teach his old friend, earning back the tuition fees.
"The tuition is covered."
Xiao Zhenwei endured the humiliation and paid eight thousand yuan in tuition fees, feeling as if his own flesh was being torn apart.
But Bailu not only didn't teach him how to make roasted chestnuts, she also made him pick out sand and roast it.
Xiao Zhenwei, unable to contain himself any longer, roared, "I paid eight thousand yuan to learn how to make roasted chestnuts, and you're teaching me this rubbish? Do you think I'm an idiot?!"
