Chapter Sixty-Eight: Enraging to the point of death

"Is Brother Xiao Cheng home?" Wang Cuihua looked past Bai Lu into the courtyard, but didn't see anyone.

His face turned pitiful and aggrieved again as he said to Bai Lu, "Call Brother Xiao Cheng out and help me fix the chimney."

“My brother isn’t home,” Xiao Wei replied.

"Did you go to sweep the tombs?"

Wang Cuihua thought for a moment, then said, "Last year you went to sweep the tombs in the morning and came back before noon."

Bai Lu said, "Acheng went out to run some errands."

Wang Cuihua didn't believe Xiao Wei's words, let alone Bai Lu's. "Hasn't Brother Xiao Cheng returned yet?"

"The brick trucks have all been driven out." Bai Lu raised her chin, pointing directly to the spot where the trucks used to be parked.

Wang Cuihua glanced back.

Only when they saw that the brick truck was indeed not there did they reluctantly believe it.

"What about my chimney? If it can't be fixed tonight, where am I supposed to cook, boil water, and take a bath?" Wang Cuihua didn't want to leave and wanted to go inside to wait for Xiao Cheng to come back.

Xiao Wei blocked the doorway: "Brother Dazhuang's family lives closer to the cemetery than ours, he should be home now."

Wang Cuihua didn't want to be called Xiao Dazhuang.

Last time when she was hauling firewood, she originally asked Xiao Cheng for help, but Xiao Dazhuang, who was laying bricks nearby, heard this and insisted that he was very strong and wanted to haul the firewood for his older brother.

He's stupid and clumsy, always ruining her plans.

"Big Zhuang's mother walks slowly, she probably won't be back so soon..."

As soon as Wang Cuihua finished speaking, a series of heavy footsteps sounded behind her: "I'm back."

"Did you need something?"

Xiao Dazhuang carried a large grass carp and walked towards Bai Lu's door, always speaking the truth.

Wang Cuihua was stunned for a moment, looking at the large grass carp weighing six or seven pounds in his hand: "What is this...?"

"It's for my sister-in-law," Xiao Dazhuang said truthfully.

As she spoke, she hung the fish on Xiao Wei's small arm: "The fish is too heavy, it's hard to carry. You carry it, Xiao Wei. My mom said it's good for you to eat more fish."

Xiao Wei said, "Okay."

The fish was so heavy that his arm bent over, but he didn't go into the house. Instead, he said to Xiao Dazhuang, "Sister Biao's chimney is broken. I'd like you to go and help fix it."

Wang Cuihua glared at Xiao Wei with a dark expression.

She didn't mean to call Xiao Dazhuang!

"The chimney is broken? I can fix it, leave it to me," Xiao Dazhuang assured, patting his chest.

Wang Cuihua opened her mouth to refuse, but Bai Lu spoke first: "Do you need any tools?"

"No need." Xiao Dazhuang shook his head with a simple smile: "Don't worry, sister-in-law, I can handle this little thing in no time. When our chimney had a problem before, Brother Cheng came to fix it for us once. I watched and learned from him, and I've already mastered it."

Bai Lu smiled and gave him a thumbs up: "You're just as good as A-Cheng."

"No, no, Brother Cheng is the best!" Xiao Dazhuang was a little flattered by the praise and immediately turned around to go to Wang Cuihua's house.

I need to go and fix her chimney.

We must thoroughly implement the principle of "powerful".

Wang Cuihua was dumbfounded by his diligent and rapid footsteps. She had never seen Xiao Dazhuang so diligent when she asked him for help before, when Xiao Cheng was not at home!

I will still help, but I won't be as excited or eager to help as I am now.

Wang Cuihua followed him back with a dark expression.

Bai Lu said to Xiao Wei, "Put the fish in the basin, and there's water in the other basin. After you're done, we'll go get the bamboo."

Xiao Wei turned around and carried the fish back into the house.

Wang Cuihua's family also lived in a brick and tile house with a front yard and a back yard. In the back yard, they raised chickens and had a small vegetable garden.

The chestnut trees next to the vegetable garden were not cut down. Xiao Zhongbiao once said that he wanted to have what his elder brother had.

After repairing the chimney, Xiao Dazhuang also cleaned up the black tiles on the roof to avoid needing to repair them again in a short time.

He was extremely dedicated and incredibly skilled.

But Wang Cuihua didn't even get a sip of tea. She was still sitting at the square table in the main house, looking worried, and said to him, "Brother Dazhuang, we actually have some chestnuts at home too."

“Last year, a lot of chestnuts fell from the chestnut trees. Before Ah Biao passed away, he taught me how to store them, and I stored quite a lot.”

"Oh." Xiao Dazhuang didn't understand why she suddenly brought this up, and put the ladder back in its place.

Then she said, "We also have chestnuts at home. My mom saved them and said they taste great when cooked."

"Actually, chestnuts taste better when stir-fried than boiled," Wang Cuihua said meaningfully.

Xiao Dazhuang nodded in agreement: "Then you can cook it."

Wang Cuihua: "..."

"We have so many chestnuts at home, how could I possibly eat them all by myself after roasting them all?" Now you understand.

"Why cook so much if you can't finish it?" Xiao Dazhuang didn't understand: "Just cook only what you'll eat."

Wang Cuihua was almost furious. She gritted her teeth and mumbled, "The roasted chestnuts on the street are quite delicious, but unfortunately I don't know how to make them."

When it came to roasted chestnuts, Xiao Dazhuang finally understood: "My sister-in-law's roasted chestnuts are really delicious."

Wang Cuihua waited for a long time but didn't hear him say anything more.

After finishing, he turned to leave, saying, "The chimney is fixed, I'm going home."

"Wait a minute." Wang Cuihua finally couldn't help but ask tentatively, "Brother Dazhuang, do you think Bailu would teach me how to make candied chestnuts if I wanted to?"

Bai Lu and Xiao Wei outside the window heard the sound of an abacus.

Xiao Dazhuang shook his head honestly: "I don't know."

"Roasted chestnuts can be sold for money, but Bailu probably won't teach me how..." Wang Cuihua sighed sadly.

Xiao Dazhuang finally understood. After understanding, he was so shocked that he couldn't hide his face: "You want to learn how to make roasted chestnuts from your sister-in-law and sell them on the street?"

Wang Cuihua nodded, then hesitated, "Anyway, the chestnuts are just sitting at home, so why don't we..."

"That won't do!"

Before she could finish speaking, Xiao Dazhuang interrupted her: "Brother Cheng said that Sister-in-law's cooking skills are her own, not taught by Brother Cheng. Brother Cheng doesn't know how to make roasted chestnuts, and said that if we want to eat roasted chestnuts, we should go to the street to buy them ourselves."

Before the Qingming Festival, everyone was laying bricks at Aunt Wu's house, and Wang Hao brought up the matter intentionally or unintentionally.

Xiao Dazhuang remembered very clearly that Xiao Cheng said exactly that, not a word more or less.

At first, he didn't understand what it meant and thought it was just that Wang Hao was craving the sugar-roasted chestnuts his sister-in-law made.

I casually mentioned it during dinner and conversation at home, and that's how I learned the truth from my mother.

Wang Hao wasn't just craving something; he wanted the recipe for roasted chestnuts.

Wang Cuihua was frightened by Xiao Dazhuang's unprecedented reaction and dared not mention the matter again.

After he leaves, try going to find Bailu again.

Just then, there was a knock on the door.

Wang Cuihua remembered that the door was not closed. She got up and walked out in confusion, and saw it when she looked up.

Bai Lu and Xiao Wei stood in front of the wide-open gate outside the courtyard. Bai Lu was knocking on the open door, indicating that she had just come from home, as she was facing away from her house.

"We came to see if Dazhuang has fixed the chimney yet, and if there's anything we can help with."

Bai Lu smiled warmly, while Xiao Wei, as always, kept a straight face, his silence signifying acquiescence.

"Don't worry, sister-in-law, I've fixed it." Before Wang Cuihua could speak, Xiao Dazhuang's loud voice came from inside the house, followed by his tall figure running out.

Wang Cuihua, fearing that Xiao Dazhuang would reveal what had just happened, spoke first: "Would you like to come in and sit down?"

"Brother Dazhuang, if you have something to do, go back and take care of it first."
