The next morning, when Ye Linchen woke up, he saw that Lin Xuemei and Li Hongying were sleeping soundly, so he got up quietly without disturbing them.
After a quick wash, I changed into my sneakers and went for a morning run at school.
The morning air is exceptionally fresh; taking a breath makes both body and mind feel refreshed.
Ye Linchen ran a few laps around the track to warm up, then went to the cafeteria and bought three breakfasts—soy milk, fried dough sticks, and steamed buns—all classic combinations.
Back in her rented room, Lin Xuemei had just gotten up and was rubbing her sleepy eyes as she sat on the bed, trying to come to her senses.
Ye Linchen placed breakfast on the table and called to her, "Go wash up and have breakfast!"
"You're up so early..." Lin Xuemei mumbled in response, yawning as she muttered, "I'm never staying up late again, it's too uncomfortable..."
Ye Linchen asked with a smile, "Who said last night that we would fight until dawn?"
Li Hongying was quicker than Lin Xuemei and had already come out of the bathroom after washing up.
Looking at the breakfast on the table, she exclaimed, "Xiao Chen, you got up so early? You even bought breakfast? You're so energetic!"
"I wake up at the appointed time and can't fall back asleep."
This is a habit Ye Linchen developed since childhood.
Back in the countryside, her aunt would wake her up before dawn to feed the pigs and chickens, much earlier than she does now.
Hearing the two talking, Lin Xuemei quickly went to the bathroom to wash up and then came over for breakfast.
Ye Linchen handed her a cup of soy milk: "Are you making it again tonight?"
Lin Xuemei took it and drank more than half of it in one gulp, regaining her fighting spirit: "Hang in there, it's only a few days left anyway, I have to hold on."
She put down her cup and asked Ye Linchen, "How's your revision going?"
Ye Linchen pointed to the steamed buns on the table, indicating that she should eat first.
"The report is finished, and the first round of review is complete. Now it's time to start the second round."
“I don’t understand the world of top students…” Lin Xuemei wailed, picked up a steamed bun and took a bite. “I still have one report to finish, but I’ve reviewed most of the exams. I still have about two or three chapters of key points for each subject to memorize, but there are still three days until the exams, so I should have enough time. Anyway, I’m not thinking about getting a high score, just passing is fine.”
Li Hongying picked up the fried dough stick, sighed, and said, "I've finished writing all my reports, but I still need a lot more for exam preparation. I'm not good at memorizing, so I'll have to rely on calculation problems to get a good score."
She said with a worried look, "What I fear most are those general education courses, which are all about memorization. It can take me several days to memorize a chapter and I still might not be able to finish it."
Lin Xuemei comforted her, saying, "Don't worry, if all else fails, you can cram at the last minute. You'll remember something eventually."
"Even if you're desperately seeking help from Buddha, you still need to have Buddha in your heart..." Li Hongying sighed.
Lin Xuemei immediately turned to Ye Linchen and said with a fawning expression, "Why isn't there a Buddha? There is one right here. Xiao Chen, you must look after me next semester and teach me how to study properly!"
Ye Linchen was amused by her and said with a smile, "Okay, no problem."
She thought for a moment and then said, "I feel that I've adapted fairly well this semester. Next semester, I'd like to find a part-time job to earn some living expenses."
"Oh? You're going to look for a part-time job?" Lin Xuemei asked in surprise. "You're such a good student, why are you working so hard? Don't you have enough money for living expenses?"
Ye Linchen calculated that after the New Year, she would finish the report for the public relations company and receive a commission of more than 10,000 yuan.
Tuition and living expenses for a year are not a problem.
However, if I want to start a business in the future, this amount of money won't be enough, and I'll need to earn more.
"It's not that I don't have enough, I just want to earn some extra pocket money," Ye Linchen said casually.
Thinking of Ye Linchen's family situation, Li Hongying quickly gave Lin Xuemei a wink, signaling her to stop asking.
Lin Xuemei realized she had misspoke and quickly covered her mouth, saying awkwardly, "I'm sorry, Xiao Chen, I didn't mean to..."
Ye Linchen smiled and said nonchalantly, "It's okay, I'm used to it. You can never have too much money. I just want to earn more and save more so I can participate in the school's entrepreneurship program later."
Li Hongying's heart stirred upon hearing her words.
“By the way, Xiao Chen,” Li Hongying asked her, “have you thought about doing a part-time job? A fellow villager of mine, who also got into Jiangcheng University, is currently tutoring. There’s a female student who’s not very good at science who wants a tutor. She’s terrible at science too, so I can’t tutor her. She came to me and asked if I would be willing to tutor her. You know, I’m too busy with my own studies, and I want to participate in the Model United Nations competition next semester. I don’t have enough time, so I can’t be in two places at once.”
"If you're willing, I can give you his contact information. The salary is fifty yuan per hour, and you'll be responsible for three subjects: math and science. There's a one-month trial period, and we'll decide whether to keep you based on how much your grades improve. If you're willing, you can try teaching a class after the end of the semester, and classes will officially start after the Spring Festival next year. If they're willing to keep you, you'll have to tutor until the college entrance exam in June."
"Fifty yuan an hour?" Lin Xuemei exclaimed, her eyes widening. "Such a high wage?"
Ye Linchen was also taken aback by this number. You know, a university teacher's salary is only a few thousand yuan a month.
"Really? Is this for real? Such a good thing?" Lin Xuemei asked skeptically. "It's not a scam, is it?"
Li Hongying rolled her eyes at her: "How could I possibly lie? My classmate was just trying to help. Besides, it's a one-month trial period. If you don't think it's reliable, you can quit anytime."
Ye Linchen thought this part-time job was really good; the pay was high and the hours were flexible, which suited her perfectly.
"Hongying, thank you so much!" she said gratefully. "I'll go and give it a try after my exams."
