According to Zhao Yutong, she had excellent grades from childhood to adulthood, and her parents had very high expectations for her.
Her mother even gave up her own entertainment to accompany her in her studies.
Not only her relatives and friends, but even her neighbors in the compound knew that she was promising and would surely get into a good university.
But since entering her second year of high school, Zhao Yutong has become increasingly averse to studying and feels bored whenever she sees a textbook.
She often lost focus in class, and consequently, she began to find learning difficult. She didn't understand many of the concepts and couldn't do her homework.
However, she was afraid that her mother would be disappointed in her, so she kept copying her classmates' homework and her deskmate's answers during exams, trying to get away with it.
The exams in the second year of high school weren't strictly enforced, so she was able to maintain decent grades by cheating.
However, as she entered her senior year of high school, the exams became increasingly rigorous, and she could no longer cheat. Her true grades were then fully exposed.
She wanted to catch up on her studies, but the tutors she had hired before all said that her foundation was too weak and it was too late, so they gave up after one or two lessons.
Her classmates also mocked her grades, saying that she had copied them all before.
She felt useless and a failure, and now she didn't want to go to school anymore, nor did she dare to think about taking the college entrance exam.
"Teacher Ye, am I hopeless? Will I not be able to get into university?" Zhao Yutong asked, crying.
Ye Linchen didn't answer her. Instead, he asked her to take out her second-year high school math textbook and asked, "Xiaotong, tell me, where did you start not understanding? It's not too late for us to mend things now."
Zhao Yutong opened her textbook, pointed to a few chapters, and said somewhat embarrassedly, "It probably...it probably starts from here..."
Ye Linchen nodded: "Xiaotong, you are indeed far behind, and your foundation is very weak, but as long as you are willing to work hard, you can definitely cram for a review before the college entrance examination. How about this, let's not talk about the distant future. I guarantee that before the first mock exam, I will help you get out of the single digits and reach the middle range, or even higher. But the premise is that you must follow my requirements, do the homework I assign properly, and not copy other people's work anymore. Can you do that?"
Zhao Yutong looked up at Ye Linchen's encouraging eyes and nodded vigorously: "I...I can do it! I definitely can do it!"
Ye Linchen understood that Zhao Yutong's grades had plummeted because of long-term excessive psychological pressure, which had led to her developing a dislike for school.
She looked at Zhao Yutong gently and said briefly, "Xiaotong, you must remember that studying is not for your parents, nor for others, but for yourself. You must strive for your dreams and for the life you want."
She has found a solution.
Going forward, we will focus on encouragement to help Zhao Yutong regain her confidence and rediscover the joy of learning.
"good!"
"I believe you!" Ye Linchen smiled. "Then let's start now!"
Ye Linchen told Zhao Yutong to wipe away her tears and tidy her hair so that she didn't look like she had been crying before they left the room together.
Zhao's mother hurried over and asked anxiously, "How did it go? What did you talk about?"
Ye Linchen smiled and said, "Auntie, I've already talked to Xiaotong and have a basic understanding of her situation. If needed, we can start the class today."
"Okay, okay, let's begin the lesson!"
Hearing this, Zhao's mother breathed a sigh of relief.
Ye Linchen and Zhao Yutong sat down at the dining table, picked up their textbooks, and began explaining the content that Zhao Yutong didn't understand.
Back in his senior year of high school, Ye Linchen was mainly responsible for explaining science subjects when he was in the group of four, so he had a lot of experience and can now explain them with ease.
She not only explained the basic content, but also highlighted the key points separately, striving to ensure that Zhao Yutong fully understood them.
After each chapter, Ye Linchen would give Zhao Yutong a question that covered all the key points of that chapter.
If Zhao Yutong did something right, Ye Linchen would praise her generously; if she did something wrong, Ye Linchen would not criticize her, but would patiently explain it to her again, addressing the parts she didn't understand, until she understood.
During the explanation, Ye Linchen also noticed a problem: Zhao Yutong was hesitant to ask questions.
I don't know if it's because she's afraid of her mother, or because she's introverted and shy, but even if she doesn't understand, she won't bring it up.
This left Ye Linchen feeling rather helpless.
However, this was due to her personality, and Ye Linchen couldn't change her. He could only observe Zhao Yutong's expressions more carefully and try to judge whether she truly understood from her subtle reactions.
The two-hour trial lesson ended quickly, with Ye Linchen covering about three chapters.
She felt her throat was dry from talking, but seeing Zhao Yutong's gradually relaxed brows and increasingly focused eyes, she felt that her efforts were worthwhile.
After the trial class ended, Ye Linchen did not announce the end of get out of class.
She then selected several incorrect questions from Zhao Yutong's previous exam papers that involved the knowledge points discussed today, slightly altered the data, and had Zhao Yutong redo them to see if she had truly mastered the knowledge points.
To Ye Linchen's surprise, Zhao Yutong did a very good job, without any problems whatsoever.
It seems she truly understood, rather than simply memorizing it.
Seeing this, Zhao's mother told Zhao Yutong to go back to her room to do her homework first, while she stayed behind to chat with Ye Linchen alone for a few minutes.
Zhao Yutong sincerely said to Ye Linchen, "Thank you, Teacher Ye, you teach so well."
Ye Linchen smiled and said, "You're very smart too, you learn quickly, so teaching you is easy for me."
Zhao Yutong laughed and walked briskly back to her room.
