As soon as Gu Jingran spoke, the carriage fell silent, with only the sound of their breathing remaining.
Ye Linchen's heart skipped a beat, then began to race uncontrollably.
One blow after another, heavily pounding on her chest.
A surge of heat rose up from the base of her neck, quickly turning her earlobes red.
Immediately afterwards, the heat spread to her cheeks, burning her intensely.
She lowered her eyes, her gaze falling on the dark blue velvet box in her hand.
My fingertips rubbed the box helplessly, savoring its delicate texture.
She bit her lip and pondered for a moment before raising her head to meet Gu Jingran's expectant eyes.
In the dim light of the car interior, his gaze was focused and earnest as he quietly watched her.
Ye Linchen nodded slightly, the movement so small it was almost invisible.
Then, she nodded vigorously.
She looked at Gu Jingran, her voice not loud, but every word was clear.
"Gu Jingran, I also have a lot of feelings for you."
Gu Jingran's eyes immediately filled with joy, his gaze softened, and he whispered, "Xiao Chen..."
Ye Linchen calmed down at this point.
She felt that some things had to be made clear from the beginning.
"However, there's something I'd like to clarify with you first."
She sat up straighter, and her expression became a little serious.
"Even if we're in a relationship, I still want to prioritize my career."
"I don't want to stay at home and be a housewife whose life revolves around my husband and children."
This is the bottom line she set for herself, and also her plan for the future.
She didn't want her future life to consist only of mundane chores, nor did she want to be confined to a small, isolated place.
She gave the choice to Gu Jingran.
"If you can accept me as I am, I'm willing to give it a try with you."
After she finished speaking, she looked at Gu Jingran quietly, waiting for his reply.
Gu Jingran listened attentively and then nodded.
“I respect your decision,” he said gently. “You have things you want to do and plans you have, and that’s a good thing.”
"I will respect all your choices and support you."
Hearing this answer, Ye Linchen's tense nerves finally relaxed.
An indescribable joy welled up from the bottom of her heart, causing the corners of her mouth to involuntarily turn up slightly.
"Okay," she said softly.
Gu Jingran looked at her, his smile deepening.
"Then... shall I help you put on the necklace?"
As he spoke, he extended his hand to Ye Linchen.
Ye Linchen handed over the box in his hand.
He took the necklace and leaned closer.
The distance between the two instantly closed.
Ye Linchen could even smell the faint, cold aura emanating from him.
She felt his warm breath gently brushing against her ear, causing a slight tickle.
My cheeks had just cooled down a little when they started to heat up again.
Gu Jingran put the necklace over her turtleneck sweater, the crystal bear pendant hanging gently on the soft sweater, reflecting a warm glow in the dim light inside the car.
"Alright," Gu Jingran said softly.
Then he returned to his seat, his eyes filled with joy.
Ye Linchen's heart was still pounding like a drum. She dared not look at Gu Jingran again and whispered, "I'm leaving."
After saying that, he hurriedly pushed open the car door and got out of the car.
A gust of cold wind blew by, making her burning cheeks feel a little better.
Gu Jingran got out of the car, a smile playing on his lips. He looked at Ye Linchen's slightly flustered expression, and the upward curve of his lips grew wider and wider.
His eyes were so tender they seemed to melt with love.
"Xiao Chen..."
"You should go back now," Ye Linchen said, brushing her wind-blown hair and waving her hand with feigned composure. "Don't keep your aunt and uncle waiting."
Gu Jingran smiled and nodded, saying goodbye to her: "Okay, get some rest, see you tomorrow."
"See you tomorrow," Ye Linchen replied casually.
Gu Jingran's smile deepened. He waved to her, climbed into the driver's seat, and started the car.
The black sedan quickly disappeared into the night, vanishing around the street corner.
Ye Linchen only looked away when the red taillights were no longer visible.
She stood there, reaching out to touch the cool crystal bear around her neck.
It feels like something has changed starting tonight.
But upon closer reflection, life seems to be no different from before.
She raised her hand and patted her still burning face, let out a long breath, and then turned and walked into the stairwell.
In the following days, Gu Jingran would come to see her whenever he had free time.
The two went to the cinema to watch a Hong Kong movie together, and also ate at a newly opened Western restaurant in the city.
Ye Linchen went from being awkward and shy at the beginning of their meeting to gradually becoming more at ease.
She found that she could always feel very relaxed in front of Gu Jingran.
You can confidently express your immature thoughts without worrying about being ridiculed.
After hearing that she had the idea of starting her own business, Gu Jingran began to look for related opportunities.
Just then, the city held an "Experience Exchange Meeting for Individual Business Owners," and Gu Jingran received an invitation, so he went to attend with her.
Learn from the successful experiences of others.
He also used his connections to get two tickets and took Ye Linchen to a lecture by a local university economics professor on "Business Opportunities in a Market Economy".
On these occasions, Ye Linchen always listened very attentively, his small notebook filled with dense notes.
