Chapter 358 We have to get rid of them!

On the other side, as the clerk stamped several documents with a red seal, Gu Yifei's suspicion was declared cleared.

He picked up the pen on the table and signed his name at the end of several documents confirming the authenticity of the transcripts.

Although his hands were still trembling, every stroke was clear and distinct, and particularly powerful.

After signing, he capped the pen, gently placed it on the corner of the table, pushed back his chair, stood up, and walked towards his parents.

All he wanted to do was leave this place that caused him so much pain and depression, and go outside to breathe some fresh air.

A policeman behind him called out to him.

"Comrade Gu Yifei, wait a moment."

It was the same middle-aged policeman who had just taken Meng Zihan's statement.

He walked over in two steps, his face serious.

Gu Yifei stopped, turned around and looked at him, his brows furrowing slightly.

Is there anything else that hasn't been taken care of?

He desperately wanted to leave and didn't want to stay a moment longer.

The middle-aged policeman walked up to him and asked for his opinion: "Meng Zihan falsely accused you. As the direct victim, you have the right to appeal to the court according to regulations."

He pointed in Meng Zihan's direction and continued, "Her behavior has a very bad influence and fully meets the criteria for filing a defamation case."

The middle-aged policeman looked directly at Gu Yifei and explained to him in detail.

"If you want to pursue her legal responsibility, the court, in the most severe case, could sentence her to three years in prison. In addition, we can help you apply for compensation for emotional distress, and that amount will definitely not be small."

Gu Yifei's gaze involuntarily followed the direction the police indicated and landed on that corner.

Meng Zihan was leaning over the table signing something.

Her once neatly combed hair was now piled up in a mess on top of her head, and her back view was as thin as a sheet of paper.

Her shoulders slumped limply, and she was still sobbing intermittently.

She looked so small and helpless.

They are both pitiful and hateful.

Gu Yifei unconsciously clenched his fist along the seam of his trousers, his mind racing with a jumble of images.

These were all fragmented moments he had spent with her over the years, which he cherished dearly.

But those vague, warm memories were quickly washed away by her almost insane, distorted expression in front of others today.

This lesson was too profound for him to bear, and he would never give this woman any chance to hurt him again.

From now on, Meng Zihan will be a complete stranger to him.

Gu Yifei turned his gaze back to the policeman in front of him and shook his head.

"never mind."

His throat was dry and his voice was hoarse.

"That's fine then."

Although Gu Yifei hated her, seeing her like this, and thinking about what was to come—that she would be publicly criticized by her workplace, and that this would be recorded in her personnel file, narrowing her path in life considerably—he felt that such consequences were already enough for her to bear.

He simply couldn't bring himself to lift his foot and stomp on Meng Zihan's frail body again, to do something so ruthless.

This is probably the last bit of lingering thought he had about that absurd past, about the feelings he had misplaced, a kind of unspoken closure.

Gu Yifei chose to end it here. He felt that the matter could be put on hold, and he wanted to let Meng Zihan go, which would also be a way of letting himself go.

But he forgot that he was not alone; he had a family standing behind him.

Mr. and Mrs. Gu valued their reputation above all else, and they couldn't swallow this insult that had been used against their son.

They were unwilling to let Meng Zihan off so easily, and they would not let the Ye family behind her off either!

After completing the formalities, Gu Jingran drove the three members of the Gu family home.

Gu Yifei fell asleep again in the car.

Once home, after settling Gu Yifei to bed, Gu's mother returned to the living room and sat on the sofa with Gu's father, remaining silent.

This night was far from a pleasant experience for them.

When Gu's mother thought about how her son had been schemed against, she felt heartbroken and kept wiping away tears.

"If Ye Linchen hadn't been quick-witted and found the surveillance footage, Xiaofei might have really been harmed by that brat."

"If I don't marry her, I'll go to jail. Just thinking about it now terrifies me."

Gu's father whispered, "Don't be afraid. Jingran has told me the truth. He has evidence. Everything was arranged by Meng Zihan herself. It has nothing to do with Xiaofei. Xiaofei will be fine."

Gu's mother stared in surprise, her eyes reddening: "What? Jingran has evidence?"

"Yes, he arranged for people to keep an eye on Meng Zihan. He won't let her succeed so easily."

"The reason we haven't presented any evidence is to teach Xiaofei a lesson. As we discussed, if Meng Zihan really goes all out and sues Xiaofei, we'll present the evidence when we appear in court. In the meantime, we'll let this brat suffer a bit more."

Mother Gu breathed a sigh of relief, then scolded, "How could you two do this? You didn't even tell me, you gave me such a fright."

Father Gu laughed: "I told Jingran not to tell you. You're so impatient, you might let Meng Zihan see through your act."

When Gu's mother thought about her own personality, she realized that it really was like that.

Meng Zihan is so cunning, what if she senses something is wrong and comes up with another trick?

This is indeed the best result.

But Gu's mother couldn't just let Meng Zihan off the hook after she'd made such a big scene.

"If word gets out about what happened today, my family will lose all face. Are we really just going to let this go?"

Gu's father's eyes were cold and stern.
