After being yelled at by Meng Zihan, Meng Xuejun was also unhappy.
Meng Xuejun's face flushed red, and he jumped up and down, yelling, "What kind of attitude is this! I'm still your father! How can you talk to your father like that? Everyone says filial piety is the most important virtue. You're so unfilial, you'll go to hell! Money can be earned back, but once your character is ruined, there's no going back!"
"Besides, what's the rush! We have plenty of money! This is just a small accident, and you're already turning against your own father!"
"We've ended up like this because you were too clever for your own good! We told you you didn't have to pay back the money your aunt owed, but you wouldn't listen. Now look what's happened—we've lost a huge sum, and we're struggling to make ends meet!"
Seeing Meng Xuejun's self-righteous attitude, Meng Zihan was so angry that she wanted to slap the scrap metal in her hand onto Meng Xuejun's face.
"Money can be earned back? Do you know how much this cost? We can't deliver the goods, and we have to pay penalties! Those penalties alone will bankrupt us. When we signed the contract, I told you to read it carefully! And you, you were just acting like a big shot!"
"You were the one who sourced the goods. What did you say when you placed the order? You patted your chest and guaranteed me there wouldn't be any problems. Now you've brought back a pile of scrap metal, and it's my fault?"
“When I first approached my aunt, I told her that the money was a loan from her, and that I not only had to pay her back, but also calculate her share of the profits. You even wrote an IOU and put your fingerprint on it, which has legal effect. How could I not pay it back? Not paying back money will land you in jail!”
Meng Zihan said this not because she had a change of heart and felt that she had to pay back the money she borrowed from Meng Xueyun.
She simply felt that Meng Xuejun was unreliable. If she left all the money to them, Meng Xuejun would squander it all in no time, and might even gamble it away like he did in her previous life, ending up with a huge debt.
It would be better to transfer the money to Meng Xueyun. Once Meng Xueyun receives the money, she will trust them and think their business is promising. In case they encounter any problems or difficulties in the future and need money, they can borrow from Meng Xueyun.
Meng Xuejun, of course, was unaware of Meng Zihan's scheming, and spoke with righteous indignation.
“This isn’t what I wanted. The boss is an acquaintance of mine, and the goods I’ve ordered before have never had any problems, which is why I trusted him so much. How can this be my fault? You didn’t stop me when I said I would contact him, did you?”
"What's the point of arguing with me? Instead of wasting time, why don't we hurry up and find a new manufacturer to restock?"
"It's not like I haven't borrowed money from your aunt before. Every time I didn't write an IOU and leave my fingerprint, I've never paid it back. What did she ever say? 'If you can't pay it back, then forget it!'"
"You're so stupid, you won't believe me! You lost two thousand yuan for nothing, and now you're even hesitant to go play cards!"
Meng Zihan froze upon hearing about playing cards, glared fiercely at Meng Xuejun, and said through gritted teeth, "You still dare to play cards!"
Meng Xuejun was startled by the ruthlessness in Meng Zihan's eyes and instinctively retorted.
"But I didn't go, did I? I wasn't just there to play cards; I went to maintain relationships. Otherwise, where do you think these orders came from?"
Meng Zihan felt that saying another word would be a waste of her energy. What she needed most right now was time, and she really shouldn't waste it on Meng Xuejun.
She needs to quickly salvage the mess that Meng Xuejun has made.
She interrupted Meng Xuejun impatiently: "I'm not wasting my time with you. I need to contact other manufacturers right now. If we delay the delivery, I won't be able to afford to pay for it even if I sell you!"
After saying that, Meng Zihan turned around and prepared to go out to make a phone call.
He had only taken a couple of steps when he seemed to remember something and turned back.
She pointed at Meng Xuejun and warned, "From now on, you're not allowed to interfere with the procurement of goods! If you keep doing business like this, we'll go bankrupt sooner or later!"
Meng Xuejun was indignant. "A little girl like her, lecturing me!"
He jumped up and down, wanting to shout some grand principles of filial piety and integrity, but Meng Zihan didn't give him the chance at all and slammed the door and left.
Enraged, Meng Xuejun kicked the pile of goods at his feet twice and spat, "What's so great about you? If I hadn't brought you out of Jiangcheng, would you be living such a good life today? You heartless, ungrateful wretch! I should have thrown you into the river to drown you when your mother ran away!"
Through the door, Meng Zihan heard Meng Xuejun's curses. Her face turned pale, but she did not turn around to continue arguing with Meng Xuejun.
She had long understood that relying on this man to help her get ahead would only drag her into a quagmire.
She gritted her teeth and closed the door, secretly vowing: since I can't rely on others, I can only rely on myself.
Having learned from her past life, she was much more composed than before and quickly re-established contact with new manufacturers...
Because the production period for this order was so short, the factories were asking for significantly higher prices than usual.
Meng Zihan initially held onto a sliver of hope, visiting several factories, only to receive remarkably consistent responses:
"Either pay up, or don't do it at all. We'll have to work overtime to meet this deadline."
Her heart sank.
With so little capital at hand, how could we possibly support ourselves?
The goods must be delivered, otherwise the penalty for breach of contract alone would be astronomical.
Left with no other choice, she set her sights on several smaller factories that offered relatively lower prices and reluctantly approached them.
Factories in the port city value relationships, and phone calls alone are not enough, so she had to visit them in person time and time again.
The factory manager, seeing that she was young and from out of town, ignored her.
Having no other choice, she put on a smiling face and pulled Meng Xuejun to the dinner table to keep him company while he drank.
During those days, she spent almost every day in the smoke-filled restaurant.
