Ye Linchen immediately noticed the subtle change in Gu Jingran's brow. Her heart tightened, and she couldn't help but ask, "What's wrong?"
Gu Jingran didn't answer immediately, but looked at her and asked, "I remember you told me about her before, right? It seems like she has some minor flaws in her personality?"
Ye Linchen paused for a moment, then nodded: "Yes."
Since he brought it up, she simply told him about Zhao Yutong's problems one by one.
From actively requesting to join, to the discussion during the meeting, and finally to the decision.
She spoke in detail, including all her concerns at the time.
Gu Jingran listened and nodded slightly. After she finished speaking, he said in a deep voice, "Your judgment is correct. She is indeed the kind of person who is not good at enduring hardship and likes to take shortcuts. It's not just her cheating on the exam that shows it, but also what she said when she asked to join your team."
Ye Linchen frowned slightly, his expression becoming thoughtful.
Gu Jingran continued to explain, "You tell her that her professional knowledge isn't keeping up, which might affect the balance between her studies and the project. A truly capable and reliable person would at least try to prove themselves to you, showing you that they can balance both, or demonstrating their professional skills."
"But she didn't do that. Her first instinct was to try and sway you with so-called resources, to tempt you with benefits. And she made promises without even consulting her family."
"Such a person is not an ideal candidate, whether in the core team at the beginning of a startup or as an employee of the company later. The worst thing about starting a business is that the core personnel cannot be relied upon."
He paused, his expression softening: "Of course, on the other hand, with such a heavy workload, it's not a bad thing to have someone help share the burden. But when using people, you must distinguish between primary and secondary tasks. Your decision to refuse to use her resources was the right one."
Gu Jingran thought for a moment, then added, "Starting a business may seem to rely on ideas, but the core lies in three things: creativity, decision-making ability, and timing."
"Besides that, the most important thing is the ability to recognize and utilize talent. If you want to be a boss in the future, you must learn to recognize and utilize talent. No one is perfect. The key is to put imperfect people in the most suitable positions so that they can also give full play to their greatest strengths."
Gu Jingran explained in detail, and Ye Linchen listened very attentively, nodding his head as he carefully considered what Gu Jingran had said.
Even after Gu Jingran finished speaking, Ye Linchen was still lost in her own thoughts.
Seeing how engrossed she was, Gu Jingran couldn't help but reach out and gently tap her forehead with his finger.
"What are you thinking about? Did you bring your business plan? Do you want me to take a look?"
Ye Linchen was brought back to his senses by the knock.
She touched her forehead, pursed her lips and smiled, "I did bring it, but it's just a draft. There's no point in showing it to you now. Let's wait until it's finalized. Don't you have work to do? Go ahead and do your work. I'll revise it a bit more and see how things should go from here."
Gu Jingran smiled and said, "Okay, then you can work here. We'll wait for you to finish the draft soon."
After arranging a seat for Ye Linchen, Gu Jingran returned to his own seat, picked up the thick stack of documents on his desk, and began to read them carefully.
The office fell silent instantly, with only the scratching of pens on paper and the occasional rustling of pages turning.
Ye Linchen also took out a draft paper and continued writing the charter.
The handwriting was slightly messy, but as the thoughts gradually became clearer, the lines on the page became more and more organized.
When she looked up, the wall clock already pointed to nine o'clock.
She looked up and saw that Gu Jingran was still engrossed in the report, his expression focused, and the lines of his eyebrows and eyes were particularly clear under the desk lamp.
Ye Linchen was stunned for a moment, then suddenly realized that most of the time they spent together was like this.
Everyone is busy, yet they keep each other company.
She does her own thing, and he never bothers her, but helps her as much as he can.
That sense of security and peace made her heart warm slightly.
She was so engrossed in watching him that, without realizing it, her gaze lingered on his face for quite some time.
Gu Jingran seemed to sense something, looked up, and smiled: "What's wrong? Are you done with your work?"
Ye Linchen blushed slightly when he noticed her, then chuckled softly.
"Okay, that's about enough. It's getting late, I should head back."
Gu Jingran closed the report in his hand, neatly placed it aside, and stood up, saying, "I'll take you back to school."
"No need, no need, you're busy, just have the driver take me."
Ye Linchen glanced at the thick stack of documents. He didn't know how late he would be working tonight, so he felt bad about wasting any more of his time.
"It's alright, it won't make a difference if it's just a little while longer."
Without saying a word, Gu Jingran walked towards the door, opened it, and gestured for Ye Linchen to enter.
"Mr. Ye, please."
Ye Linchen smiled: "Thank you, President Gu."
As night fell, the car drove toward Jiangcheng University.
The carriage was quiet, with only the roar of the engine.
Ye Linchen yawned and asked, "How long will you be staying in Jiangcheng this time?"
"About four days," Gu Jingran said, looking ahead. "There's a supplementary agreement to be signed in Hong Kong, and some details need to be finalized. It'll probably take about a week. Once this is done, we won't need to go there so often anymore."
"I wish you all the best," Ye Linchen said.
Gu Jingran glanced at her, a slight smile playing on his lips, but said nothing more.
The car slowly stopped in front of Jiangcheng University. Gu Jingran watched her walk into the school gate until her figure disappeared into the night before turning the car around and driving back to the company.
Ye Linchen pushed open the dormitory door; the lights were on inside.
