Ye Linchen was genuinely surprised when Meng Xueyun stopped him at the entrance of Jiangcheng University.
Ever since Meng Zihan schemed against Gu Yifei and ended up at the police station, the Ye family seemed to have been hurt and kept quiet for a while, never bothering her again.
Ye Linchen thought that they had finally learned to have some shame and would stay away from her from now on.
Who knew that today, Meng Xueyun would block the school gate again.
It was the time when classes ended, and groups of students were coming and going, chatting and laughing.
Meng Xueyun stood at the edge of the crowd, dressed fairly decently, but her collar was wrinkled, her hair looked like it had been haphazardly grabbed, and her eyes were red and swollen, clearly indicating that she had been crying bitterly.
When Ye Linchen saw her like this, he knew what was going on.
This trip is definitely not going to be good.
Sure enough, before Ye Linchen could get around her, Meng Xueyun rushed up, grabbed her arm, and burst into tears:
“Xiao Chen! I know you’re angry, but this time our family is truly desperate! I’m begging you, please help our family, please help me…”
The crying was so pitiful that it immediately drew the attention of the surrounding students.
Many people stopped and craned their necks to look in this direction, whispering among themselves.
Ye Linchen sneered.
If you really need help, can't you find a secluded place to discuss it in detail?
She had to cry and wail right there at the school gate, a place where people come and go, as if she wanted everyone to know.
This isn't a plea for help; it's clearly a calculated move to exploit her desire to save face and force her to submit through public opinion.
Unfortunately, she wasn't buying it!
Ye Linchen twisted his arm and pulled his hand away, his tone revealing neither joy nor anger: "What is it?"
When Meng Xueyun saw that she had broken free, she was very unhappy. But when she saw that she had finally spoken, she didn't care about arguing anymore and quickly wiped her eyes and cried.
“Xiao Chen, something terrible has happened at home. You don’t live at home, so you don’t know anything. I…”
She was about to speak when she immediately realized that she couldn't say this in front of everyone.
She glanced around and lowered her voice, "We...we'll find a place to sit down, and Mom will tell you slowly."
Ye Linchen felt increasingly irritated as he watched the crowd of onlookers gather.
She hates being treated like a monkey.
But Meng Xueyun acted as if she hadn't seen anything, and didn't say anything more, she just cried even harder, as if she had suffered a great injustice.
"I have class later." Ye Linchen was too lazy to argue with her and said curtly, "Just say what you have to say, and get to the point."
Meng Xueyun was taken aback for a moment, then stared at her with displeasure.
That brat is still so difficult to deal with!
But when he thought about the purpose of his visit today, he forced himself to suppress his anger.
She wiped away her tears and quickly smiled, "Yes, yes, class is important, Mom can't let you miss out on your studies."
Upon hearing this, Ye Linchen's lips curled into a mocking smile.
If it weren't for a real emergency, when would Meng Xueyun ever be so polite?
It seems the trouble at home this time is going to be serious.
Seeing that Ye Linchen refused to go with her, Meng Xueyun gritted her teeth and had no choice but to speak.
She whispered, "A while ago, Xiaohan's dad, your uncle, came back, didn't he? He's been away for so many years, and he's managed to set up a company in Hong Kong. I figured Xiaohan wouldn't amount to much in Jiangcheng, so I let her learn business from her father. It's better than her staying here."
At this point, she said with a touch of pride, "I even used the little money your dad and I had saved up as capital for them. Business was really good at first, and Xiaohan even sent money home a few times..."
Ye Linchen didn't even raise an eyebrow.
The better the groundwork is laid beforehand, the bigger the pitfall will be later.
Sure enough, Meng Xueyun changed the subject and started to cry.
"But who knew! Your foolish uncle! He was taken to a casino, and in no time, he was tricked into losing all his money and even his company!"
Her story was full of twists and turns, leaving the students watching in awe.
Meng Xueyun became more and more excited as she spoke, and her voice rose a few decibels as she stopped worrying about anything else.
“We’re really struggling to make ends meet right now! You know your dad’s health, what can I do with my meager salary? We were counting on them to earn money so we old folks could have someone to rely on, but what will we do if the company goes out of business?”
At this point, she rushed forward, grabbed Ye Linchen's arm, her face covered in tears.
"Xiao Chen! Please help your uncle, please help Xiao Han! I'm begging you! We're family, you can't just stand by and watch her die..."
She shouted until she was hoarse, as if Ye Linchen would be an ungrateful wretch if he didn't agree.
But Ye Linchen knew that Meng Xueyun was full of lies, except for the one sentence that "Meng Xuejun lost money gambling and mortgaged the company," which was probably true.
She remained expressionless, as if she had been persuaded, and asked calmly, "How much?"
Meng Xueyun visibly choked. She glanced around at the students pointing and whispering, her face flushed with embarrassment. She reached out to pull Ye Linchen to a less crowded area, lowering her voice as she did so.
"Regarding the money... we can discuss it. Let's find a place to sit down, and Mom will explain everything to you in detail. Take as much as you can; it's all a token of our appreciation."
Ye Linchen sneered.
Now you realize how shameful you are?
When you were shouting so loudly that almost the whole school could hear you, didn't you think about saving face?
She glanced at her watch and said coldly, "I have two minutes left before class starts. If you want to talk, I'll listen. If not, I'm leaving."
"Oh! You silly child!"
Meng Xueyun was getting anxious, but the number was too hot to handle.
After stammering for a while, under Ye Linchen's impatient gaze, she finally squeezed out two words through gritted teeth: "One hundred thousand."
