Meng Zihan had not yet fully recovered from the shock, and could only subconsciously stand up with him.
For the next few days, she felt like she was living in a dream.
Zhou Shixian took her to rent an apartment in a high-end residential area in the city center. It was a two-bedroom, one-living room apartment with exquisite decorations and a view of the city's bustling night scene from the window.
He then took her to the most upscale department store at the time, where the sales assistants diligently packed up the beautiful clothes, shoes, and bags—brands she had only seen in magazines and whose prices had several zeros after them.
"Throw away all those old things, they're an eyesore," Zhou Shixian said to her without turning his head as he swiped his card.
Meng Zihan obediently agreed with "okay," but she had her own ulterior motives.
She didn't listen to him completely and secretly kept many of his old things, hiding them in the deepest part of the wardrobe.
She knew better than anyone what this extravagance was built on, and that anything gained through men could be taken away at any time. She had to leave herself a way out.
When Meng Zihan changed into a brand new, expensive suit, put on exquisite makeup, and sat down in front of Zhou Shixian again, she felt as if she had been reborn.
The two opened a bottle of red wine in the living room of their new apartment.
Zhou Shixian swirled the dark red liquid in his glass and finally got to the point.
"Don't even think about that foreign trade company anymore," he said. "It was hard work and didn't make any money. You've narrowed down your options."
Meng Zihan nodded obediently, like a student listening attentively in class.
“I’ll show you the way.” Zhou Shixian’s lips curled into a calculating smile. “You register a new company and do engineering. Although it’s nominally an independent company, it will actually be affiliated with my company as a subsidiary.”
"Engineering?" Meng Zihan was stunned. "I...I don't understand it at all."
