It looks nice, but the material must be terrible; it'll deform after just two washes!
Yes, that must be it!
Ye Linchen frowned impatiently as she blocked his way.
She didn't want to waste her precious time on this pointless standoff.
"Is there something you need?" she asked coldly.
Meng Zihan suppressed her displeasure and put on a fake smile.
"Cousin, look at how distant you are with that. We haven't seen each other in so long. I came all the way from Hong Kong to see you. Why don't we find a place to get together? It's on me."
"No need, I have other things to do."
Ye Linchen refused succinctly and tried to walk past her.
Meng Zihan was not about to let her go and reached out to stop her again: "Cousin, why are you in such a hurry to leave? What, are you upset because you see that I'm doing better than you now, and you're afraid to face me?"
Ye Linchen stopped and looked at her quietly, as if watching a clown jumping around.
Seeing that she didn't speak, Meng Zihan assumed that she had touched a sore spot and became even more smug, raising her voice a few decibels to make sure that everyone around could hear her.
"So what if I didn't get into Jiangcheng University? It proves that academic qualifications don't matter at all! I can still live a thousand times, ten thousand times better than you! And you, Ye Linchen, even if you get into a prestigious university, so what? You'll only ever be an ant looking up at me for the rest of your life!"
Her words were harsh and malicious, drawing whispers from the students watching nearby.
Unfortunately, Ye Linchen's face still did not show the anger, jealousy, or shame she had expected.
“I’m not uncomfortable,” Ye Linchen said calmly. “Everything you have today didn’t come from your own abilities. In the end, you’re just an appendage. Why should I feel uncomfortable about an appendage?”
She scoffed and continued, "I was just thinking, mountains crumble, people run away. When the person behind you gets tired of you, bored with you, and wants to kick you aside, you won't even have the slightest power to resist. What will you do then?"
These words precisely struck at Meng Zihan's deepest fears.
Her face paled for a moment, but was immediately replaced by intense anger.
“Don’t worry about that, you poor student!” she retorted sharply. “That day will never come! Shixian loves me, and he will treat me well for the rest of his life!”
"Is that so?" Ye Linchen's lips curled into a faint, almost pitying smile. "Then I wish you good luck."
After saying that, she turned to leave again.
"Don't you dare leave! Stop right there!" Meng Zihan was completely enraged. She couldn't accept that her carefully planned show-off had ended with the other party's sympathy and lecture. "Ye Linchen, don't pretend to be so magnanimous! You're definitely dying of jealousy and rage inside, aren't you!"
“No need.” Ye Linchen didn’t even turn his head. “If you’re really as rich and free as you say, you should spend more time going back to see Ye Zhenghua and Meng Xueyun. They raised you all these years, don’t you know what’s going on at home now? Don’t waste your time here, I’m really busy.”
"Why would I go see them?" Meng Zihan shouted sharply. "I already paid my aunt the money I owed them! From now on, we're even, and nobody can drag me down with them anymore!"
