Chapter 481 Marionette

The next day, Linda had just sat down in her office when the phone on her desk rang.

Linda glanced at the caller ID and immediately knew what was going on.

She composed herself and picked up the receiver.

"Hello, Director Zhang."

The voice on the other end of the phone was emotionless, revealing neither joy nor anger, yet it carried a pressure that made one dare not let their guard down.

"Linda, what happened? I heard you upset my little darling yesterday?"

Meng Zihan went to complain!

Linda had anticipated this, so it wasn't surprising.

Holding the receiver, she recounted in detail what had happened in the store yesterday, without any personal bias.

There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone, followed by a soft laugh.

"Linda, you've been with me for almost ten years now," Director Zhang said slowly, as if chatting casually. "How come you're still making these childish mistakes? Meng Zihan doesn't understand anything. Just go along with what she says; there's no point in trying to reason with her."

“What kind of clothes does she want? Just have the factory make a couple and hang them in the store, isn’t that enough? Whether they sell or not, does that matter? No, we have more important things to do. Don’t mess this up.”

Director Zhang's voice had become stern and impatient.

"Now that I've angered her, she's come to me crying and making me miserable. It's going to be difficult for everyone."

The more Director Zhang spoke, the colder his voice became, and he issued an ultimatum.

"I don't want this to happen again, do you understand?"

A chill ran through Linda.

She had worked for Director Zhang for so long and knew his temperament very well.

This indicates dissatisfaction with her work.

As soon as he finished speaking, Linda quickly said, "I understand, Director Zhang. I will definitely pay attention in the future."

"Hmm." Director Zhang didn't continue the topic and instructed her, "I'll have my secretary send you an order later. Just follow the usual accounting procedures and get it done as soon as possible."

Linda was startled.

Another accounting transaction?

She couldn't help but remind him, "Director Zhang, there have already been three transactions this month, and the amounts are all quite large. President Meng seems to be paying more attention to company matters lately... I'm worried..."

“What are you worried about?” Director Zhang interrupted her impatiently. “What can she understand? If she asks, just tell her you’ve just received a new batch of Italian fabric, or that you paid a channel fee to some department store. Just make up some excuse. Linda, I don’t need to teach you this little thing step by step, do I?”

"...Yes, I understand."

"Alright, that's fine then."

The call was abruptly ended.

Linda stared at the beeping microphone for a long while before putting it down.

Although Meng Zihan had already been dealt with by Director Zhang in a few words, she still had to go through the motions and apologize to her.

After all, she is the boss in name only, so we can't ignore her.

Linda tidied herself up, stood up, and went straight to Meng Zihan's office.

Meng Zihan's office door was ajar, and Linda knocked on it.

"Please come in."

Linda pushed open the door and saw Meng Zihan leaning back in a large executive chair, holding a report in her hand, with an undisguised smug look on her lips.

She was wearing a Chanel suit today, her hair was meticulously styled, and her makeup was exquisite. When she glanced at me sideways, she really did have the air of a female boss.

"President Meng."

Linda put on a respectful smile, walked to her desk, bowed slightly, and adopted a posture of honestly admitting her mistake.

“I was wrong yesterday. I didn’t appreciate the brilliance of your design and made the decision on my own. I apologize. I will definitely pay more attention in the future and consult you before doing anything.”

Meng Zihan was immersed in the joy brought by the profit figures, and she had already forgotten about the unpleasantness caused by yesterday's dispute.

She had looked at this report at least ten times. Although she couldn't understand the specific data, she could still calculate the final net profit.

In just a few days, it can equal the wages of a salaried worker for several years.

Linda may be annoying, but she's definitely a golden goose.

Moreover, what Director Zhang said last night really resonated with her.

Yes, who is she?

She's destined to lead fashion trends!

These "common" products are merely stepping stones on her brand's rise, representing initial capital accumulation.

Once her "Zihan" brand becomes a hit in the port city and across the country, then she can start designing, and that will truly be the talk of the town.

Now, all she has to do is sit here, watch the money roll in, and enjoy life to the fullest.

Thinking about this, Meng Zihan found Linda much more agreeable.

She waved her hand magnanimously and said in a condescending tone, "Alright, let's just let this go. I know you were doing it for the company's good, just be more careful in the future."

She paused, tapped the table with her finger, and, adopting the air of a boss, instructed, "The season is about to change, so hurry up with the new products and don't let it interfere with making money."

"Okay, Mr. Meng."

Linda responded, and the weight that had been hanging over her head finally lifted.

Meng Zihan is, after all, the boss in name only. If she really holds a grudge and makes things difficult for her every day, she won't have an easy time in the future.

Just as she was about to turn and leave, her gaze inadvertently fell on Meng Zihan's young and somewhat innocent face.

She sat there happily, flipping through a brightly colored fashion magazine, looking like an innocent and naive rich girl.

Whenever Linda thought of what Director Zhang said on the phone, and of the fake accounts she had personally covered up, she couldn't help but feel a complex pity.

This girl was being manipulated like a puppet, her name and identity used to launder money, yet she was smug about it, thinking she was the chosen one, a genius entrepreneur.

She had no idea that the seemingly prosperous and thriving road beneath her feet actually led to a bottomless trap.

Linda stared at her, somewhat lost in thought.

"What's wrong?" Meng Zihan felt her gaze, looked up, and asked in confusion, "Is there something else?"

Linda snapped out of her daze and shook her head dismissively, "It's nothing, Mr. Meng. I'll go to the design department to arrange the work right away."

She walked quickly out of the office and gently closed the door behind her.

Leaning against the cold wall of the corridor, she gave a self-deprecating laugh.

I'm just worrying about things that don't concern me. I'm just a clay idol; what right do I have to sympathize with others?

My own life is a mess, and I'm already doing well just to survive in this cannibalistic place. I don't have any extra kindness to spare for others.

She shook her head, clearing away those ridiculous thoughts, and strode quickly toward the design department in her high heels.
