Chapter 492 Hiring a Private Investigator

Meng Zihan jumped up from her chair. She remembered Ye Linchen's pitying look and his "concern" about visiting her in prison.

no!

Absolutely not!

She couldn't just sit idly by and let Linda treat her like a fool, using her company to do such a deadly business!

If it's discovered that Linda used the company to launder money, she, as the company's legal representative, will be the first to be arrested!

At that point, forget about becoming a superior person; you might even end up spending your life in jail!

Ye Linchen's words echoed in his ears again and again: "I will visit you in prison then."

At the time, she only felt it was a curse and an insult, but now she realizes it was clearly a warning to her!

Meng Zihan felt both fear and hatred.

She thought she was the boss who had everything under control, but in the end, she was just a pawn in someone else's hands, a tool that could be discarded at any time!

Suddenly, the image of Director Zhang's old and greasy face appeared before her eyes.

He was so biased towards Linda, could he have known about it too?

Or rather, was all of this orchestrated by him?

No, it won't happen.

Meng Zihan shook her head vigorously, trying to shake off this even more frightening guess.

Director Zhang is a prominent figure in Hong Kong, so why would he look down on someone as insignificant as Linda?

It must be Linda's sweet talk that deceived Director Zhang, just like she deceived herself!

Yes, that must be it!

As long as I can find evidence that Linda embezzled public funds and lined her own pockets, and then put these things in front of Director Zhang, that old fox will definitely see through Linda's true colors. At that time, it will be time for Linda to get out!

But how do I check?

Where should we begin our investigation?

Meng Zihan was completely clueless.

She couldn't stand still any longer and paced anxiously back and forth in the office.

Should we just ask Linda?

That would be like walking into a trap.

Should I go to the bank to check myself?

She didn't even know the password to the company's corporate bank account.

What are some good methods?

Suddenly, a brilliant idea flashed into her mind.

Hire a private investigator!

Isn't that how it's always portrayed in Hong Kong movies?

Rich people hire private investigators to investigate anything they want to find out.

She's not short of money right now. As long as the money is right, what secret can't she uncover?

Meng Zihan immediately returned to her desk, picked up the ledger, flipped to the pages she had just seen, and with trembling hands, copied down the bank account number that had appeared repeatedly.

Then, she grabbed her handbag and rushed out of the office without looking back.

She didn't want to stay in this office for another second. She felt like there were invisible eyes watching her everywhere in the company, mocking her stupidity and incompetence.

But where can you find a reliable private investigator?

Meng Zihan went out onto the street and wandered around aimlessly for a few minutes.

There were quite a few small signs for "XX Investigation Agency" hanging by the roadside, but they all seemed unreliable, so she didn't dare to go in.

Finally, feeling frustrated, she went to a familiar high-end hair salon.

At this point, only getting her hair done and being served by others could calm her down a little.

"Ms. Meng, what kind of hairstyle would you like today?" Hairstylist Tony greeted her warmly.

"Wash my hair and blow-dry it." Meng Zihan tossed her bag aside and leaned back lazily in her chair.

Just as she closed her eyes and enjoyed the scalp massage, a sweet, coquettish voice came from the seat next to her.

"Hey, isn't this Zihan? You have so much free time to get your hair done today?"

Meng Zihan opened her eyes and saw a familiar face in the mirror.

It was Fanny, a socialite she used to hang out with; her family was in the jewelry business.

“It’s Fanny.” Meng Zihan forced a smile.

"What's wrong? You look so listless," Fanny said, leaning closer curiously as she had the manicurist do her nails. "Did you have a fight with your boyfriend?"

Meng Zihan's heart skipped a beat; the opportunity had arrived.

This Fanny is the most gossipy person; she likes to meddle in everything. Maybe she knows which private investigators are reliable.

Meng Zihan sighed, putting on a worried look: "Don't even mention it, I'm so annoyed. Fanny, I have a question for you. You have a wide network of connections, do you know any private investigators? I want to investigate something."

Fanny immediately became interested.

"What, catching him cheating? Is your boyfriend being dishonest?"

Of course, Meng Zihan couldn't tell the truth, so she could only go along with what she said and make up a story.

"Pretty much. It's just that I've been feeling like he's been acting mysterious lately. He keeps saying he's going to play golf, but then he disappears without a trace. I can't get through to him on the phone either. I just want to check it out, just to put my mind at ease."

"Then you've come to the right person!" Fanny raised her eyebrows smugly. "I know one, surnamed Mai, everyone in the industry calls him 'Brother Mai.' He's incredibly professional! Last time I suspected my boyfriend was having an affair with a college student, I contacted him. Within three days, he sent me a whole stack of photos, addresses, and hotel records! In Hong Kong, there's no vixen Brother Mai can't catch!"

Meng Zihan was overjoyed and quickly sat up straight.

"Really? That's great! Fanny, give me his contact information right away!"

Fanny slowly blew on her freshly applied nail polish, glanced at her sideways, and smiled, "Giving it to you is fine... but I heard that Zihan Clothing has hired a French designer for their next season's new collection. When they release it, shouldn't you save a set for me?"

"One set isn't enough!" Meng Zihan readily agreed. "I'll give you the whole set! It's free!"

"That's more like it." Fanny was satisfied. She took out a business card from her bag and handed it over. "Here, the phone number and address are on it. Just say that I, Fanny, referred you, and he'll give you a discount."

Meng Zihan took the business card as if it were a treasure, and without even waiting to dry her hair, she paid and hurriedly ran out.

Following the address on the business card, she made several turns and finally found the "McDonald's Investigation Agency" on an inconspicuous old street.

The storefront is small and looks no different from the shop next door that sells liniment.

Meng Zihan hesitated for a moment, then pushed open the door and went inside.

A middle-aged man wearing a floral shirt and gold-rimmed glasses was sitting behind a table reading a newspaper. When he saw Meng Zihan, he pushed up his glasses, glanced at her designer clothes, and immediately stood up.

"Miss, is there anything I can help you with?" He put on a shrewd smile. "Whatever you want to know, I can find it out for you, even if it's the King of Heaven himself."

"Fanny introduced me to this place."

Meng Zihan got straight to the point, her face expressionless, trying her best to appear calm.

"Oh! Fanny's friend! We're family, have a seat!" My brother's attitude became even more enthusiastic. "What do you want to investigate, Miss? Is it a person or a matter?"
