Shen Yanlin shook his head lazily: "Too lazy to guess."
He paused, then added, "It's not a good thing in the end."
Ye Linchen glanced at him: "I'm sorry to have dragged you into this."
Upon hearing this, Shen Yanlin smiled faintly: "It's alright, I'm just idling around anyway, watching a show is a good idea."
As the two were talking, another voice came from outside the door.
Meng Zihan's soft, gentle voice was particularly clear, as if she were complaining to someone.
"I saw my cousin Ye Linchen acting suspiciously outside the office just now, I don't know what she was up to..."
“She had been worried about the exam, and I suspected… she wanted to steal the exam paper.”
"Stealing test papers?" This was Teacher Ma's puzzled voice.
“She didn’t do well in school when she was in the countryside, but she did so well on the entrance exam. Maybe she used this method.” Meng Zihan continued to embellish the story. “Although we are sisters, I cannot tolerate this behavior. I saw her go into the office with my own eyes, so I locked her inside. I’m here to report to you right away. Please make a decision, teacher.”
Hearing this, Shen Yanlin turned to look at Ye Linchen and said sarcastically, "It seems that your good cousin is not only a good actress, but also quite ruthless."
Ye Linchen remained expressionless, simply staring quietly at the office door, waiting for what would happen next.
She knew perfectly well that the more convincingly Meng Zihan acted, the more humiliating it would be for her when the truth came out.
Soon, the voices of the two people outside stopped at the door, and then the office door opened with a "click".
Meng Zihan stood at the door with a smug look on her face, as if she could already see Ye Linchen's tearful and flustered expression, not knowing what to do.
She was about to offer some words of advice to Ye Linchen, but when she saw the situation in the office, her smile froze instantly, replaced by disbelief and shock.
"Chen Yanlin? What are you doing here?!" Meng Zihan blurted out.
How could Shen Yanlin be present in this carefully planned play?
This completely disrupted her plans!
The homeroom teacher, Ms. Ma, asked Shen Yanlin with a puzzled look, "Shen Yanlin, why aren't you in class? What are you doing in the office?"
"I'm here to pick up my report card from last semester so I can send it to my dad."
The homeroom teacher walked to his desk: "Your grades were alright last semester, but..."
She found Shen Yanlin's report card and handed it to him, saying, "At this rate, skipping classes all the time and not focusing on your studies, your grades will be ruined sooner or later! Your dad will be so angry he'll have a heart attack!"
The homeroom teacher turned to Ye Linchen, staring at him warily.
"And you? What brings you to the office?"
"Meng Zihan asked me to come, saying you wanted to talk to me." Ye Linchen pointed at Meng Zihan.
Meng Zihan quickly said, "No, I didn't call her. That's just her excuse. She came to steal the exam papers!"
Just as Ye Linchen was about to retort, Shen Yanlin turned his head and stared coldly at Meng Zihan.
"How did you know she was there to steal the exam papers? Did she announce it to the world with fanfare before she did it? Or did she tell you?"
Meng Zihan blushed and retorted, "She was worried about the exam this morning, and now she's sneaking into the office. What else could it be but stealing the test paper?"
"Does coming to the office necessarily mean you're stealing exam papers?" Shen Yanlin asked calmly. "Couldn't you be here to ask questions?"
"The teachers are all eating lunch, who is she asking?" Meng Zihan immediately retorted.
Shen Yanlin shrugged: "She just transferred here, isn't it normal that she doesn't know the situation? Besides, even if she wanted to steal the test paper, she wouldn't choose to do it at noon. People could come back at any time, and it would be easy to be discovered. If she wanted to steal it, she should have waited until the teachers had all left work in the evening, sneaking around so that no one would notice..."
He looked at Meng Zihan with a mocking expression, his words carrying a hidden meaning.
"Only a fool would think that others would believe him if he made up a lie about stealing exam papers in the middle of the day."
As Teacher Ma listened to the two of them talking back and forth, his brows furrowed even more.
She interrupted their argument with some impatience.
"Alright, stop talking! Ye Linchen, you tell me, did you touch anything in the office?"
Ye Linchen shook his head, looking completely innocent.
"No, Shen Yanlin was already here when I came in. We only exchanged a few words before the door was locked."
Shen Yanlin nodded and echoed, "I arrived earlier than her."
Meng Zihan, however, was not willing to give up. She bit her lip and told Teacher Ma.
"Teacher Ma, the two of them have a good relationship; maybe they're covering for each other!"
To prove that what she said was true, she brought up the incident from the day before yesterday.
"The night before last, my mom and I went to my cousin's rented house, and Shen Yanlin was there too!"
Ye Linchen scoffed coldly.
"Meng Zihan, you're spreading rumors again. We were in a study group, and Feng Linlin and Lin Xiaojuan were there too!"
Just then, Feng Linlin and Lin Xiaojuan ran in.
Feng Linlin, panting, testified for Ye Linchen: "Yes, we were all there."
Lin Xiaojuan added, "We were just following Xiaochen when we saw her enter the office, and then Meng Zihan locked the door and ran away."
"I thought my cousin wanted to..."
Teacher Ma interrupted her: "Zihan, you've misunderstood Ye Linchen."
Meng Zihan hurriedly defended herself: "But Teacher Ma, I really saw her acting suspiciously with my own eyes, I thought..."
Teacher Ma interrupted her again decisively: "Zihan, I know you mean well, but this time it is indeed a misunderstanding."
Seeing that Teacher Ma's attitude was firm, Meng Zihan immediately changed her expression. She turned to Ye Linchen and apologized to her.
