Chapter Seven: She was my enemy in my past life!

When Ye Zhenghua saw Meng Xueyun bring up the past, he clicked his tongue and said, "You're getting more and more outrageous. Granny Hu was just saying it casually, and you actually took it seriously?"

"It wasn't just a casual remark. Granny Hu calculated and predicted for a long time, and she was incredibly accurate!" Meng Xueyun said confidently. "Before I got married, I consulted Granny Hu, and she said your mother didn't like me and that I wouldn't get along with her. And what happened? Wasn't she right?"

Ye Zhenghua was speechless.

The whole village knows that I don't like Meng Xueyun, so why do I need Granny Hu to figure it out?

Ye Zhenghua and Meng Xueyun were childhood sweethearts, growing up together since they were little. Later, Ye Zhenghua wanted to marry Meng Xueyun, but Old Madam Ye firmly disagreed.

The reason is simple: Meng Xueyun is good-looking, but she is selfish, narrow-minded, and too attached to her family. Marrying her would not bring a good life.

She quickly arranged a better girl for Ye Zhenghua.

But Ye Zhenghua refused to comply and insisted on marrying no one but Meng Xueyun.

Left with no other choice, Old Madam Ye finally relented and allowed Ye Zhenghua and Meng Xueyun to get married.

After marriage, Meng Xueyun and Old Mrs. Ye did not get along well. She finally waited until Ye Zhenghua was promoted from an ordinary worker to a group leader, and she was able to go to Jiangcheng with Ye Zhenghua, only to find that she was pregnant.

Now Grandma Ye had an excuse to keep Meng Xueyun in the countryside under the pretext that "she should take good care of herself during her pregnancy and not move around too much."

On the one hand, it was to set rules for Meng Xueyun, and on the other hand, it was to prevent her from using Ye Zhenghua's salary to support her younger brother.

Meng Xueyun was furious and only hoped to give birth to a son so that she could stand up straight in front of her mother-in-law and no longer be controlled by her.

She was very confident because everyone in the village said that her belly was pointed and that she was definitely carrying a boy.

To put her mind at ease, she even paid the village shaman, Granny Hu, to have her fortune told.

Grandma Hu patted her chest and assured her, "No problem, it's definitely my son, you can rest assured!"

Because of this, Grandma Ye treated her much more gently.

Unexpectedly, after ten months of swaggering and arrogance, Meng Xueyun gave birth to a daughter.

Her status plummeted, and she became the subject of gossip and pointing fingers in the village.

The people who originally said she was pregnant with a son changed their tune, saying she was not destined to have a son and that she couldn't give birth to one even with all this.

Meng Xueyun was both angry and anxious, so she took her daughter to find Granny Hu and demanded an explanation.

Grandma Hu made up a story, saying that this daughter was Meng Xueyun's enemy in a previous life, and that she had come here in this life specifically to steal her son's place and seek revenge.

He will bring her misfortune for the rest of his life, making her never have peace.

Meng Xueyun, recalling all the hardships she had endured after giving birth to her daughter, immediately believed it and hated her newborn daughter, wishing she would die right away.

They wouldn't even feed her milk.

The Ye family was poor and couldn't afford milk powder. If it weren't for Grandma Ye taking pity on the baby and feeding her with rice cereal, Ye Linchen would never have existed.

After Ye Linchen turned one year old, Meng Xueyun could no longer bear the gossip in the village and was unwilling to take care of her mother-in-law anymore. She abandoned Ye Linchen and went to work at the steel factory.

Soon after, Meng Zihan was sent over, and shortly after, Meng Xueyun became pregnant again and gave birth to twin sons.

To wipe away the shame.

Ye Zhenghua's luck also began to improve.

He was recommended to attend the Party School, obtained a junior college diploma, and was promoted to section chief.

Later, he even became the workshop director and was allocated spacious housing.

All of this made Meng Xueyun feel even more that all the previous misfortunes were caused by Ye Linchen, while Meng Zihan was their family's lucky star, bringing them good fortune.

From then on, she treated her brother's daughter as her own, while harboring deep hatred for Ye Linchen, who was raised in the countryside.

Now that her enemy from her past life, now her debt collector, has actually chased her all the way from the countryside to the city, how could she possibly give her a friendly look!

Ye Zhenghua knew what Meng Xueyun was thinking, so he pulled her to sit down by the bed and tried to persuade her.

“Xiao Chen is a bit withdrawn because of my mother’s upbringing, but she’s willing to listen if you talk to her nicely. She’s already eighteen. Even if we support her education, how long can we support her? Once she graduates from high school and gets a job, she can help support the family.”

Meng Xueyun rolled her eyes and thought that what she said made sense.

Since arriving in Jiangcheng, she hasn't worked a single day. Then she had Meng Zihan and twin sons. The family of five relied on Ye Zhenghua's salary to support themselves, and they also had to pay for the care of Ye's mother in the countryside. The financial pressure was indeed enormous.

Meng Zihan's academic performance was excellent in elementary and middle school, so they didn't need to worry about her.

Little did I know that things would get worse and worse after I entered high school.

Especially after the division into arts and sciences tracks in the second year of high school, Meng Zihan chose science, and her grades plummeted, eventually becoming the worst in the class.

To get into university, the only option is to pay someone to tutor you.

Tutoring fees are not a small amount, and the tuition and living expenses for getting into university are an even bigger expense.

Meng Zihan is the only bloodline of the Meng family, and no expense can be spared.

She had to raise Meng Zihan well and give her a bright future so that she could be worthy of her deceased parents and younger brother.

Besides Meng Zihan, the twins also need to take the college entrance exam, which will be another expense.

Relying solely on Ye Zhenghua would inevitably lead to difficulties.

If Ye Linchen had a job and handed over his salary, things would be much easier.

"Okay, as long as she doesn't argue with me, I won't hold it against her," Meng Xueyun agreed. "Tell her that once she gets her high school diploma, she shouldn't continue studying. The teaching quality in the countryside is so poor, she definitely won't get into university. She shouldn't waste her time. You should find her a job; making money is the right thing to do."

Ye Zhenghua had no opinion on whether or not to accept it.

Ye Linchen is a daughter, and there are two sons below her, who are the foundation of the Ye family.

"If you want her to listen to you, you need to be nicer to her and stop scolding her. Only when she's on your side will she be willing to help you. She's very hardworking in the countryside and is excellent at housework. After she goes to work, her income can help with household expenses, and she can still help you with chores when she comes back. Isn't that great?"
