Chapter 226 A Battle of Wits and Courage

Xi Quan pursed his lips tightly, trying hard to control his emotions. All the frustration he felt earlier became insignificant in the face of Ye Qing's repeated questioning.

Ye Qing's questioning pained him deeply. He dared not recall anything from the past, not because he dared not think about what he had gone through, but because he dared not think about what Ye Qing had gone through.

After saying that, Ye Qing felt relieved, but seeing Xi Quan's pained expression as he tried his best to suppress it, Ye Qing couldn't bear it.

She wondered if she had become like Xianglin's wife, constantly recounting how she had struggled all these years in order to express her dissatisfaction with Xi Quan.

Although it was indeed a bit tough, it wasn't all hardship. As the children grew up and my career gradually became more successful, the sense of accomplishment and happiness was real.

Moreover, although Xi Quan didn't say anything, Ye Qing could tell that Xi Quan must have gone through a lot of hardships in the past few years.

Ultimately, her feelings for Xi Quan weren't entirely hatred and resentment. The image of Xi Quan struggling to suppress his pain lingered in Ye Qing's mind. Even after she turned and went upstairs, she couldn't help but turn back and explain, "I'm used to it, and I don't want to always hide behind others. If you help me vent my anger, your grandfather and Jiang Xinya might think I'm weak and easy to bully. Now that they know I'm actually quite capable, they probably won't keep bothering me, which will save you a lot of trouble."

Hearing Ye Qing say that, Xi Quan looked up at her, smiled, and indicated that he didn't mind.

After going upstairs, Ye Qing quickly came downstairs again, this time with the two children.

It was almost lunchtime and the two children were hungry, so Ye Qing came downstairs to eat. The people who had come to cause trouble had also left, so Ye Qing didn't let the children stay alone on the second floor anymore.

Upon seeing Xi Quan, Ye Qing only glanced at him before heading straight into the kitchen.

The two children were unaware of what was happening between the adults.

Like most men, Xi Quan is a doting father to his daughter, spoiling Ye Yixin rotten, but being much stricter with Ye Yiran.

This has led to Ye Yixin being very affectionate towards Xi Quan. She jumped in front of Xi Quan, hugged him, and asked, "Dad, Mom is cooking. What do you want to eat with Mom? You can order."

After speaking, as if afraid that Xi Quan wouldn't believe her, she blinked her big eyes and nodded vigorously, as if this would prove that what she said was true.

Ever since Ye Qing started cooking at the villa, Xi Quan has had a lot of things bought and stored in the refrigerator, just in case.

Xi Quan saw Ye Qing enter the kitchen earlier, and now, listening to the sounds coming from inside, he knows Ye Qing has started cooking, even without his daughter saying anything.

Of course, he also wanted to have dinner with Ye Qing and the children.

Xi Quan felt that Ye Qing was already being kind by inviting him to dinner, let alone ordering food!

His daughter felt sorry for him, and Xi Quan was almost moved to tears, but he didn't feel proud at all. He cautiously looked towards the kitchen.

Although Ye Yiran doesn't seem to have a as good relationship with Xi Quan as her sister Ye Yixin, Xi Quan is their father. In a boy's heart, his father is a very important figure. He may not act cute in front of his father, but he still thinks about his father.

Ye Yixin didn't notice Qi Quan's cautiousness, but Ye Yiran did. He rolled his eyes slyly and shouted towards the kitchen, "Mom, Dad wants to order some food."

Upon hearing his son's voice, Xi Quan instinctively tried to cover his mouth, but it was clearly too late.

Xi Quan's heart jumped into his throat again. Although he was smiling at the children and praising them for doing a great job, his ears were perked up, not daring to miss any of Ye Qing's movements from the kitchen.

Ye Qing not only heard her son Ye Yiran's voice, but in fact, she had heard Ye Yixin and Xi Quan talking from the very beginning.

But she didn't take it seriously. Now that her son was "notifying" her, she could no longer pretend she hadn't heard him. She stopped what she was doing and seemed to be thinking about how to respond.

However, although the two children seem to favor their father, they actually have their own ulterior motives.

Before Ye Qing could respond to whether Xi Quan could order, the child had already given Xi Quan some advice, telling him to say what he wanted to eat and what he didn't like to eat.

After hearing this, Xi Quan didn't need to think too much to guess the reason. The two children were picky eaters, and Ye Qing had just promised to cook for them, so there were more vegetables to ensure a balanced diet.

The two children simply wanted to eat lots of meat and fish.

If Xi Quan and Ye Qing had gotten along well just now, Xi Quan would have sided with his son and daughter, but now... Xi Quan resolutely dared not agree to his child's request.

However, the two children looked at him with great expectation, which made Xi Quan extremely conflicted.

Listening to the child chattering away, telling Xi Quan what he wanted to eat and what he didn't want to eat, Xi Quan realized that he had been too happy for a while.

The child was actually speaking up for him, but not for him; it was for their own benefit.

Ye Qing thought the discussion was quiet, but in fact, she could hear the children chattering away from the kitchen.

For mothers, children are indeed angels, but when they are picky eaters or disobedient and fussy, most mothers feel that the child was born to collect a debt.

Ye Qing happened to be one of those mothers.

Adding to the lingering pain that Xi Quan had been trying so hard to suppress, besides her "dissatisfaction" with the child's picky eating, there was also a feeling of pity for Xi Quan, so she came out of the kitchen and asked Xi Quan, "What do you want to eat?"

"Huh?" Xi Quan was taken aback by Ye Qing's question: "Me? You're asking me?"

Upon hearing this, the two children immediately stopped talking, each grabbing one of Xi Quan's arms and looking at him earnestly.

Xi Quan noticed the child's expression, but at this moment he was more concerned about Ye Qing, so he had no time to pay attention to the child because he kept staring at Ye Qing.

"Speak up," Ye Qing urged impatiently.

At this point, Xi Quan dared not hesitate any longer, fearing that if he hesitated any longer, Ye Qing would say forget it. So Xi Quan casually said a dish name: stir-fried green peppers with pork.

After hearing this, Ye Qing turned around and went into the kitchen.

I barely watched the two children go from being triumphant to being deeply hurt throughout the entire process.

Ye Qing went to cook, leaving the child alone for the time being. But Xi Quan had to face the situation. Before he could even turn his gaze away from Ye Qing's kitchen, he heard two childish snorts.

When he looked over, Ye Yiran and Ye Yixin were like little adults, each with their arms crossed, coldly looking at Xi Quan, as if to tell Xi Quan that they were very angry, extremely angry.

Xi Quan felt a chill run down his spine as he tried to figure out how to explain it to the children, but they beat him to it again, making their demands first.
