Chapter 288 Singing in Harmony

The old man kept saying that he didn't care whether Liang Youjie lived or died, and he wasn't just saying it to soften Xi Quan's heart; he genuinely felt that way.

So when he heard Xi Quan say that he could save the company, the old man was really tempted. He ignored the sarcasm in Xi Quan's words and didn't care that Xi Quan used the phrase "lingering on in misery." Even if Xi Quan hadn't said the exact words "lingering on in misery," it was still a derogatory term.

And so, the old man didn't hold it against him.

Seeing his grandfather's attitude, Xi Quan chuckled, his tone full of sarcasm. However, the old man was still thinking about what Xi Quan had said and didn't take Xi Quan's sarcastic attitude to heart.

Quan Zhen, who had been silent until now, was very anxious. She couldn't help but speak up: "Dad, don't listen to Xi Quan's nonsense. We must save Liang Youjie."

The old man glanced at Quan Zhen but remained silent. Xi Quan sneered and retorted, "Save him? Why? Are you afraid he'll expose you? Liang Youjie isn't stupid. Since the police arrested him, it proves they have solid evidence. Otherwise, what if they made a mistake after arresting him so openly? How would they clean up the mess? So, at most, Liang Youjie won't admit it, but he won't talk nonsense or expose you. However, if you insist on finding a way to get Liang Youjie out, I have no objection. But have you thought it through? Have you thought it through? Are you ready to sacrifice everything for your son?"

Quan Zhen didn't quite understand what Xi Quan meant, and she hesitated a bit, because apart from being a decent mother to Su Zhe, Quan Zhen didn't really have much maternal love for Liang Youjie.

Even after Liang Youjie became famous for his singing, Quan Zhen didn't recognize him as the child she had abandoned. It wasn't until Liang Youjie took the initiative to find her that she realized it.

Now that Liang Youjie has been arrested, Quan Zhen is so nervous because of the car accident. Although she wasn't the one most responsible, she was still involved. Now that she's paralyzed, she can't imagine what she'll do for the rest of her life if she goes to jail.

That's why she was anxious; to be honest, she didn't really care that much about Liang Youjie.

So even though he could tell that Xi Quan's words were sarcastic, Quan Zhen, like the old man, didn't care. Instead, he was eager to know what Xi Quan meant.

After pondering what Xi Quan had said earlier, the old man looked at Xi Quan after hearing what Xi Quan and Quan Zhen had said, waiting for Xi Quan to explain what he meant.

In fact, not only were the father and daughter curious, but Ye Qing was also extremely curious. She looked at Xi Quan, but she simply wanted to know what Xi Quan was thinking.

Since they were so eager to know, Xi Quan certainly wouldn't hold back. He said, "Although you look exactly like my mother, you are ultimately not my mother. You didn't sign any company documents, but whenever you show up, everyone assumes you're my mother, and you've never explained it. You've accomplished so much using my mother's identity; I imagine there must have been some involving money, right? And the amount is directly related to the sentence for fraud. Have you thought this through? You want to get Liang Youjie out? With your eagerness, the police will definitely suspect your relationship with Liang Youjie. If they find out you're Liang Youjie's biological mother, and they trace the clues back to what really happened, it won't be so easy for you to distance yourself..."

Upon hearing this, Ye Qing understood Xi Quan's line of thinking. She followed up on Xi Quan's words, saying, "If that's the case, won't Grandpa also be implicated? After all, others may not know about the twins, but Grandpa does."

He spoke deliberately in a tone and attitude of enjoying the show, and after he finished speaking, Ye Qing looked at Xi Quan's maternal grandfather with feigned concern.

Because of Xi Quan and Ye Qing's back-and-forth banter, Xi Quan's grandfather also became nervous. He swallowed hard and frowned as he looked at Xi Quan.

Xi Quan said, "You don't need to look at me. Don't you have a lawyer? Go ask him. I think you know the truth. Otherwise, why would you refuse to let her sign any of the company's decision-making documents that required the general manager's signature, and instead sign them yourself? So you should know whether I'm just trying to scare you or not."

The old man looked at Xi Quan again, then fell silent, clearly pondering what Xi Quan had said.

Having said everything that needed to be said, Xi Quan began to adhere to the principle that silence is golden, and at this point, Ye Qing would not say anything more.

In a moment, the old man seemed to have made a decision. He looked at Quan Zhen and said decisively, "From now on, forget about your relationship with Liang Youjie. It's okay if you want to die, but if you drag me into it again, don't worry about me turning my back on you."

Anyone would be upset if threatened like that by their own father, and Quan Zhen was no exception. But despite her hatred, she wouldn't argue back, because she and her father were the same kind of people who always thought of themselves. Besides, if she hadn't been afraid of Liang Youjie getting involved, she wouldn't have dragged the old man to find Xi Quan.

Now that she was here and had heard so much from Xi Quan, she had made up her mind. Although Xi Quan hadn't said he would reveal that she wasn't the real Quan Zhen, this was a thorn in the side for those in the know, especially for her.

Knowing Xi Quan's resolve, she understood when he dragged her off the second floor. Now, her crippled legs constantly remind her not to offend Xi Quan again.

So Kwon Jin quickly made the same decision as the old man.

Now that the decision has been made, there's no need to waste any more time here.

So Quan Zhen left with the old man.

After they left, Ye Qing looked at Xi Quan, seemingly wanting to say something but then stopping herself.

Xi Quan noticed Ye Qing's expression and said, "Just say what you want to say. You don't need to hold back with me."

Actually, Ye Qing hadn't quite figured out how to say it. After silently organizing her thoughts, Ye Qing said, "Are you just going to let it go like this, that Quan Zhen isn't your biological mother? Although your mother's death really had nothing to do with her, but..."

Ye Qing wasn't necessarily being unreasonable, but Quan Zhen had done so many things to hurt Xi Quan under the guise of being Xi Quan's mother, and Ye Qing couldn't stand it. She felt sorry for Xi Quan and was indignant on his behalf.

Xi Quan said, "I don't intend to just let it go like this. Things need to be done one step at a time; you can't rush it."

Hearing this, Ye Qing knew that Xi Quan had another trick up his sleeve: "Were you just bluffing them? Is Liang Youjie going to tell them?"

“Him?” Xi Quan shook his head. “I don’t know, and I won’t put my hopes on him. After all, from his perspective, he hopes that the old man and Quan Zhen can save him. That’s why he took all the blame for the company’s tax evasion.”
