Chapter 454 When to Get a Divorce

The old man's words were brief, but they left everyone puzzled.

In the past, Ye Qing would have been internally complaining, "How could I not be nervous? I haven't even entered the house yet, and you're standing here like a gatekeeper. It's hard not to be nervous."

However, Ye Qing was in no mood to silently complain about these things, since he didn't know what the old man meant, whether he was angry or not.

Or perhaps she was angry because of what Zhang Sao said back then.

Not knowing the old man's condition, Ye Qing was indeed nervous. She forced a smile, intending to smile, but instead she did smile, though it was an extremely unpleasant smile, not much better than crying.

Xi Yue couldn't help but speak up: "Grandpa..."

The old man glanced at Xi Yue and then at Ye Qing: "You're pregnant, why are you so nervous? What if something happens? Or did you two have a fight after Xi Quan went back?"

Ye Qing shook her head. She and Xi Quan hadn't argued; it was more accurate to say that Xi Quan was throwing a tantrum.

Even if they really argued, Ye Qing would still say something.

"It's good that they didn't quarrel. I was just afraid that Xi Quan would throw a tantrum when he got back." The old man said in a calm tone, "Birth, aging, sickness and death are all part of life."

Ye Qing, whose heart had been in her throat, finally felt relieved by her grandfather's words. She took a deep breath and looked at the old man's figure as he turned away, saying, "Thank you, Grandpa."

The old man paused for a moment, then waved his hand with his back to Ye Qing.

Seeing that the old man had left, not only Ye Qing breathed a sigh of relief, but Xi Yue also breathed a sigh of relief. She put the things Ye Qing had brought into the living room, and then said to Ye Qing, "Shall we talk in my room or should we go out?"

Ye Qing had arranged to meet Xi Quan's grandfather at his home, and now that she had, judging from his attitude, he probably wouldn't chat with her about everyday things, since they weren't close.

Ye Qing felt relieved that Xi Quan's grandfather didn't seem to be angry with her. After thinking for a moment, she said, "Why don't we go outside and talk about it?"

Xi Yue originally intended to talk outside, but since Ye Qing was coming, she couldn't refuse. She also understood Ye Qing's intention: to see what her grandfather thought. Now that she had seen her grandfather's attitude, Xi Yue felt it would be more convenient to talk outside.

So she didn't go upstairs. She originally planned to go straight out, but after looking at Ye Qing, Xi Yue asked again, "Do you want to rest for a bit?"

Ye Qing shook her head: "No need, let's go. I'm not tired. The doctor said that walking around a bit is fine."

"Alright then." Xi Yue took Ye Qing's arm and walked out together.

Just as the two were leaving the hospital and about to walk out, the gate of the neighboring courtyard opened, and a woman who looked to be about the same age as Zhang Sao came out.

When the woman saw Ye Qing and Xi Yue, her eyes darted around nervously. She was about to come out, but quickly went back inside.

Ye Qing paused for a moment, then realized that Liang Lu's house was next door, and the woman must be Liang Lu's mother. So Ye Qing shared his guess with Xi Yue.

Xi Yue nodded: "It's Liang Lu's mother."

"Then she..." I wanted to ask why she seemed a little afraid of us, but when I thought about what triggered Grandma Xi Quan's death, I could understand, so I didn't ask any further questions.

Walking under the dappled sunlight of the sycamore tree again, Ye Qing's mood was not quite the same as before.

But she wasn't in the mood to appreciate the road that had once given her countless design inspirations. She looked at Xi Yue, waiting for Xi Yue to speak first.

But even as they were almost at the end of the road, Xi Yue remained silent. After a moment's thought, Ye Qing broke the silence first: "Are you and Liang Lu planning to get a divorce or...?"

After all, Liang Lu and Ye Shuang may not have gotten back together, but they did kiss in the street, so there was no point in continuing the marriage. Moreover, because of this incident, Xi Quan's grandmother also passed away, so Ye Qing felt that the marriage could not continue.

But to everyone's surprise, Xi Yue said, "We are not divorced."

These four simple words surprised Ye Qing greatly; she thought to herself that Xi Yue had become so tolerant.

After saying that, Xi Yue realized that her words might be misinterpreted. When Ye Qing looked at her, Xi Yue quickly explained, "Because Liang Lu and I are not married at all."

"Not married...then you..." Ye Qing had many questions in her mind. Not married? Then why was Xi Quan's grandmother so upset?

It's infuriating that the old lady's chosen husband, Xi Yue, had such a relationship with someone else, but if they hadn't gotten married, everything could still be salvaged.

Xi Yue noticed Ye Qing's confusion, and since she had come to see Ye Qing today, she was prepared to clarify things, because if things weren't clear, what would happen with Aunt Zhang...

After all, Aunt Zhang is Ye Qing's biological mother, and Xi Yuexian has now learned to think of others instead of always thinking about her own sadness and sorrow.

"The marriage certificate is fake. I got it for fifty yuan under the overpass. A real marriage certificate only costs nine or ten yuan. It's much more expensive." Xi Yue laughed self-deprecatingly.

Ye Qing swallowed hard, looking at Xi Yue's expression and thinking about the situation that Xu Xiaoyue had helped analyze before. Although Xu Xiaoyue said so much at that time, it was mostly to comfort Ye Qing.

But unexpectedly, it turned out to be a lucky accident.

Thinking of this, Ye Qing realized that Grandma Xi Quan's death might be related to Aunt Zhang, but not directly. She tentatively asked, "Did Grandma know that your marriage certificate was fake?"

Xi Yue nodded.

After another silence, he finally spoke again: "The reason we went to get a fake one was Liang Lu's mother's idea. Liang Lu's mother has always been against me being with Liang Lu, and the reason is easy to understand, after all, my illness..."

So when she learned about my great-grandmother's last wish, she gave me this idea. You know, I hadn't really decided whether or not to marry Liang Lu, so when I heard Liang Lu's mother's suggestion, I agreed without even thinking about it.

After talking to Liang Lu, I took care of it myself. Although the method was a bit unconventional, I still don't think that my choice a few days ago was wrong. The only thing I overlooked was...

Hearing this, and recalling how Liang Lu's mother had dodged him when they met earlier, Ye Qing roughly guessed what had happened back then.

Xi Yue chuckled self-deprecatingly and looked at Ye Qing: "You probably guessed what happened, right? I hadn't even decided whether to marry Liang Lu, but now there's a life between me and Liang Lu. Although Grandma has already issued a critical condition notice, there must be some reason for it, so it has nothing to do with Ye Shuang. I never thought that the elder who watched me grow up would be this kind of person."
