Chapter 653 Taking it one step at a time

Since there was no other way for the time being, Ye Qing stopped thinking about it. After all, with so many things happening every day, she didn't have enough brain cells to think about how to deal with every single thing.

She can't be perfect in every little detail; after all, not everyone is born with such problem-solving skills.

We can only take it one step at a time.

Moreover, with all three children at home, Ye Qing was worried, so she quickened her pace and walked home.

Ye Shuang's mother was still there when Ye Qing entered the room, chatting happily with Aunt Zhang. Ye Qing felt much more at ease, took Xi Yike from her arms, and quickly thanked her, "Thank you, Auntie."

"You're too kind, child. But how can you call me 'Auntie'?" Ye Shuang's mother teased Ye Qing, half-jokingly.

Ye Qing knew exactly who she was, but because of her previously strained relationship with Ye Shuang, she had never interacted with this relative. In fact, to be honest, if Ye Shuang hadn't moved in and become Ye Qing's neighbor, Ye Qing might not have recognized her even if she bumped into Ye Shuang's mother face to face on the street.

So Ye Qing never thought about what to call Ye Shuang's mother according to their kinship.

Now, after Ye Shuang's mother said that, Ye Qing realized that calling her "Auntie" was indeed inappropriate. Normally, she should call Ye Shuang's mother "Auntie".

However, Ye Qing couldn't quite bring herself to call out, not because she still had feelings for Ye Shuang, but mainly because of her relationship with Ye Shuwei.

Although Ye Shuwei is no longer here, Ye Qing is not so easily going to let bygones be bygones for what Ye Shuwei did to him.

Fortunately, Ye Shuang's mother didn't continue the conversation. She only mentioned it briefly, and after seeing that Ye Qing and Xi Quan had returned, she greeted Xi Quan and left.

Although it was a little awkward for Ye Qing to address her, Ye Qing was genuinely grateful to Ye Shuang's mother.

Ye Qing had many heartfelt words of gratitude to express her thanks, but from Ye Shuang's mother's anxious departure, she sensed her mother's unease.

Her unease stemmed from Xi Quan, who appeared extremely cold when he was silent and not smiling.

After discovering this, Ye Qing wondered whether she should remind Xi Quan, but Xi Quan wasn't particularly enthusiastic towards anyone except Ye Qing. If she forced a smile from him now, it would probably look even more creepy.

So Ye Qing gave up on trying to ease the tension and didn't force Ye Shuang's mother to stay.

Although Aunt Zhang is able to work now, she has only been discharged from the hospital for a short time, so Ye Qing asked Xi Quan to look after the child while she went to the kitchen to help Aunt Zhang.

When Xi Quan and Ye Qing returned, Ye Yiran and Ye Yixin were playing in the living room, but when they saw Xi Quan, the two of them snorted in unison and then ignored him.

Xi Quan blinked, put Xi Yike in her own baby stroller next to her, walked over to Ye Yiran and Ye Yixin, and asked them, "What's wrong?"

The two children gave another tacit snort.

He was so obviously unhappy. If Xi Quan still couldn't see it, things would get really bad.

But seeing that the two children were unhappy, Xi Quan didn't quite understand why they were unhappy, so he moved closer to them again: "Are you unhappy? Who upset you?"

Xi Quan usually treated Ye Yixin better, so Ye Yixin was even angrier than Ye Yiran at this moment. After hearing Xi Quan's words, she snorted again and turned her head away, not even meeting Xi Quan's eyes.

Seeing his daughter so upset, Xi Quan was anxious and turned his gaze to Ye Yiran.

Although Ye Yiran was also angry, she was much better than Ye Yixin, but this "much better" only referred to her talking to Xi Quan.

But the words he spoke were spoken with great arrogance.

"It's enough that you have your mother's affection; whether Ye Yixin likes you or not is unimportant." Although Ye Yiran was young and her Chinese wasn't very good, she accurately repeated what Ye Yixin had said to Xi Quan when they called earlier.

Xi Quan then realized why the children were angry.

Scratching his nose, Xi Quan glanced into the kitchen and whispered, "When you want candy, you have to tell Dad secretly. Mom will be angry if she hears you, so Dad..."

"Mom has already agreed to let us have candy, so we don't need to ask Dad for it anymore." Ye Yixin turned to look at Xi Quan and said angrily.

Xi Quan was slightly taken aback, quite surprised that Ye Qing had agreed.

At this moment, Ye Yiran once again took on the role of narrator, repeating the rules for eating candy that they had agreed upon with Ye Qing to Xi Quan.

At first glance, it seems like there's no problem at all.

However, Xi Quan was not a child and was well aware of Ye Qing's opposition to the two children's sweet tooth, so he instinctively felt that the rules Ye Qing and the children were talking about were definitely not that simple.

However, looking at the child's smug expression, Xi Quan knew that the child definitely didn't know that Ye Qing was tricking them.

Although the child's temporary ignoring him did make Xi Quan a little disappointed, he also knew that there was nothing that a piece of candy or a piece of chocolate couldn't solve in coaxing his child.

If one doesn't work, then two, or three!

Anyway, it's not that difficult.

It doesn't matter if they ignore me now; I will make them realize how important their father is in crucial moments.

So Xi Quan stopped asking the two children why they were angry.

At first, they didn't want to talk about it, but now that Xi Quan isn't asking, Ye Yiran and Ye Yixin are unhappy.

After waiting for a long time without Xi Quan continuing to question them, Ye Yixin became even angrier, and her cold snorts grew louder and louder.

In stark contrast, Xi Quan smiled happily at Xi Yike, who was still a baby who knew nothing. Ye Yixin felt that her father had changed and was becoming more and more annoying.

So she grabbed her doll and ran off, determined to get as far away from her father as possible.

Although Xi Quan acted indifferent, he was still a doting father and was actually a little unsure. So, after the children had gone to sleep that night, Xi Quan couldn't help but ask Ye Qing, "How are you planning to trick the children?"

"What are you talking about? When did I ever cheat them? You're making me sound like a stepmother." Ye Qing, who was drying her hair, rolled her eyes when she heard Xi Quan's words.

Seeing that Ye Qing didn't seem to understand what he meant, Xi Quan repeated what the two children had told him to Ye Qing.

After understanding what Xi Quan was talking about, Ye Qing quickly changed her mind and admitted that she was indeed messing with the kids, but she didn't tell Xi Quan exactly how she planned to mess with them. "Since you've already said that I'm messing with them, I definitely won't tell you what I'm going to do. I'm not stupid. If I tell you now, you can tell me tomorrow... maybe not tomorrow. You might not be able to resist telling them when they get up to go to the bathroom."
