The Buddhist hall was full of people lying on the ground. There was a straw mat on the ground with a thin sheet on it. People were lying on it and covered with a thin quilt. There was a charcoal fire burning in the room, and adults and children were hugging each other to keep warm.
"The medicine is here, the medicine is here!"
The person at the door yelled.
"Everyone sit still and don't move!"
I saw several servants carrying two large wooden barrels. One barrel contained a bowl and the other contained medicine. The servant held a spoon in his hand and scooped a bowl of medicine and handed it to the patient on the ground.
The old lady next to him who was still able to walk finished drinking the medicine, then walked over hunched over with a cane.
"I am still able to walk, old lady."
"I want to give everyone a hand."
She reached out and took the medicine bowl from the servant.
There are many patients in the temple, and the temple attendants are simply not enough. It takes one or two hours to distribute the medicine one by one. By the time the medicine is distributed to the people behind, it is almost cold. The attendants who distribute the medicine are almost exhausted.
"Thank you, Auntie." The servant said gratefully.
"Hey! The King of Jin fed us and treated us. He treated us like Youzhou citizens, regardless of whether we were refugees from outside. We have no way to repay this great kindness."
"It's still possible if you help!"
After the old lady said this, many people around her who were able to move stood up.
"That's right! You're right. If it weren't for the prince, we weaklings would have died long ago. Who would care about us?"
"Besides, helping everyone is also helping ourselves!"
"From now on, when we distribute medicine and porridge, we can come and get them ourselves, or help get them, so you don't have to be so tired!"
With everyone's help, the medicine barrel was soon empty.
"The rice soup is here, everyone come and get it." The person at the door shouted again.
I saw several servants at the door taking down two buckets of porridge from the cart.
Several people were about to carry the soup and porridge into the Buddhist hall.
The captain of the guards who was in command nearby grabbed one of the servants and stared at him with inquiry and confusion in his eyes.
"Why do I feel like you look a little unfamiliar?"
Xu Tian was stunned for a moment, then immediately came to his senses, curled his lips and smiled, "Sir, I'm new here. We were short of manpower some time ago, so the prefectural government recruited quite a few people."
"It's normal that you haven't seen me before. I just started my shift today."
He suppressed his inner panic and smiled calmly.
