Chapter 40: Make the decision for you and fulfill your wish

Guan Yan was thin, but he was very agile when dodging. In a flash, he ran out of the backyard and headed straight for the front door of the store.

The two guys followed closely behind, shouting as they chased: "Stop!"

Jiang Shuxiu stood firm, a trace of worry flashed in her eyes. She actually had no intention of making things difficult for Guan Yan, but the child's behavior seemed to have touched some untouchable reverse scale, making her feel a little confused and puzzled.

She said to Rui'er anxiously, "Come on, let's go and take a look too."

Rui'er nodded, supported Jiang Shuxiu and chased after them, and Mother Zhou followed behind.

At this moment, some passers-by attracted by the noise had gathered at the front door of Zhenbaozhai.

They knew that this was a shop under the name of Xingyuan Marquis Mansion, so they gathered around curiously and talked about it.

Guan Yan rushed out of the front door and saw a gap in the crowd at a glance. He went through it without hesitation, trying to escape the pursuit with the cover of the crowd.

However, the two guys were very familiar with the West Market area. They divided the work and cooperated with each other. One continued to chase along the street, while the other went around to the other side of the crowd, turned into an alley to take a shortcut, trying to block Guan Yan's escape route.

Jiang Shuxiu and Ruier also chased out of the store and hurried after to see what was going on.

The stone pavement was wet with dew in the early morning and was a little slippery. Guan Yan ran in a hurry, stumbled, and fell heavily to the ground.

He felt a dull pain in his hands and feet and was unable to get up. He looked back and found that the guy chasing him was very close, and he suddenly felt panicked.

Guan Yan gritted his teeth, endured the pain in his body, supported himself on the ground with his hands, and tried to stand up again.

However, the impact of the fall seemed to make it difficult for him to recover for a while, and his legs were shaking.

Two guys rushed over, one in front and one behind. One of them reached out to hit him. At this critical moment, Jiang Shuxiu hurriedly shouted, "Stop!"

"Young Madam, this little bastard just rudely offended you and is trying to escape now. If you don't teach him a lesson, he'll definitely cause trouble again next time!"

"Yes, Madam, let's take him back to the store and have Manager Zhou handle this matter."

Two guys held Guan Yan on the left and right and were about to take him back to the store.

Now that there is such a big commotion, more and more spectators are gathering around. As the young lady of the Xingyuan Marquis Mansion, Jiang Shuxiu should not show up here to avoid criticism.

She frowned slightly, her eyes revealing a hint of helplessness.

Seeing this, Mother Zhou immediately understood. She waved to the coachman not far away to drive the carriage to them, ready to end the turmoil and escort Jiang Shuxiu back home.

The coachman received instructions and quickly drove the carriage through the crowd, stopping steadily in front of Jiang Shuxiu and others.

Mother Zhou stepped forward and whispered to Jiang Shuxiu, "Young Madam, let's go back home first. After all, this is a matter concerning Zhenbaozhai, so it would be better to let Manager Zhou handle it later."

Jiang Shuxiu nodded, his eyes once again swept over Guan Yan's thin and stubborn figure, and a complex emotion surged in his heart.

She sighed softly, turned around and prepared to get on the bus, but couldn't help but stop.

After hesitating for a moment, he finally decided to handle the matter personally.

She turned gracefully and said to the two servants in an unquestionable tone, "Let him go...Mother Zhou, let the child go back home with us."

After saying this, she lifted her skirt lightly, stepped steadily onto the low stool placed beside the carriage, walked into the carriage, and sat down.

Mother Zhou was a little confused by Jiang Shuxiu's sudden decision and spread her hands to Ruier.

She murmured to herself, such a wild and unruly child is going to be brought back to the Marquis' Mansion now. What if he offends the master or does something unmanageable? What should she do then?

Seeing this, Rui'er gently tugged at Mother Zhou's sleeve and whispered, "Just do as I say, Mom. I know what to do and will handle it properly."

After hearing Rui'er's words, although Mother Zhou still had doubts in her heart, she had no choice but to nod in agreement.

She turned to the two shop assistants and said, "You go back to the shop first. We will take the child away."

Upon hearing this, the two servants were somewhat reluctant, but due to the identities of Jiang Shuxiu and Zhou's mother, they had to let go of Guan Yan's hands.

Guan Yan stood up, a hint of surprise and vigilance flashed in his eyes, and he secretly wondered in his heart what this gentle-looking young lady of the Marquis's Mansion was up to.

He silently followed Jiang Shuxiu, Rui'er and Zhou's mother into the carriage. The carriage was spacious, elegantly and cleanly decorated.

Guan Yan sat down in the corner, trying to minimize his presence, but his thoughts were like a churning sea, and he was both curious and wary of what was about to happen.

The carriage slowly drove away from Zhenbaozhai, passed through the streets of Xishi, and headed towards Xingyuanhou Mansion. Outside the window, the hustle and bustle of the city gradually faded away.

Mother Zhou carefully asked about Guanyan's name. When she heard the word "Guanyan", she suddenly realized and thought to herself: Could this be the servant that the prince secretly kept in Zhenbaozhai?

Although she had some guesses in her mind, she did not show it on her face, but just looked at Guan Yan more carefully.

Jiang Shuxiu sat upright in the main seat with a dignified posture, and her eyes occasionally glanced at Guan Yan.

"Where did you work before, and how did you get taken to Zhenbaozhai by the prince? I won't ask about these details."

Seeing Guan Yan's calm expression, she continued, "I'm taking you back to the Marquis' Mansion to find a place for you to stay."

"In the future, if you wish to stay in the Marquis's mansion, you will be a proper servant. If not, I will find a good family on the farm to adopt you, give you a proper name and citizenship, and you will live a stable life from now on."

"As long as you have made up your mind, I will make the decision for you and fulfill your wish."

Although Jiang Shuxiu's words did not directly point out how Guan Yan served Xue Yuanchu, the implication clearly revealed his subtle understanding of his past identity.

This made Guanyan's face flush instantly, and he was filled with shame and anger, as if the most hidden pain in his heart that he didn't want others to know was touched upon.

When Guan Yan nodded, the carriage happened to arrive at Dongxing Street and unexpectedly met Hong Yingrong's carriage returning home.

The two carriages slowly approached each other, and the drivers skillfully controlled the distance to avoid a collision.

Zhao Mama was sharp-eyed and recognized Jiang Shuxiu's carriage at a glance. She quickly reported, "Madam, that's the young lady's carriage in front."

Upon hearing this, Hong Yingrong gently lifted a corner of the curtain and looked out, just in time to see the side of the carriage that Jiang Shuxiu was riding in, who had entered the gate before her.

"This carriage looks like it just returned home?" Madam Zhao muttered.

Hong Yingrong narrowed her eyes slightly and thought to herself that Jiang Shuxiu would not go out so early in the morning without a reason unless he had something important to deal with.

She gently lowered the curtains and instructed Aunt Zhao, "When we get back home, ask Shuxiu why she went out this morning."
