Chapter 13: My gaze was drawn to that male educated youth.

When Yu Chuxia and the others arrived, Shiyue had already cleaned the room and was grinding cornmeal in the kitchen using the small millstone at home.

Yesterday, the brigade delivered all the grain she had earned after marrying into the Sun family to her, totaling 380 jin.

These are all whole grains, the kind with the skin and husk still on.

If you want to eat it, you have to grind it yourself.

Just as Shiyue put a small handful of corn kernels into the groove of the stone mill, she heard a noise outside. She took an oil lamp and went out.

It was completely dark outside by then.

She quickly walked a few steps and opened the courtyard gate.

There were quite a few people standing outside the door, including Sun Xiaohong's younger brother Sun Sanping, as well as three men and one woman.

She recognized the woman; she was the girl in the military overcoat on the mule cart who looked somewhat weak.

The three men were educated youth who had returned with them.

Before Shiyue could speak, her gaze was drawn to the male educated youth standing in the center.

The main problem is that the man was just too tall!

He was a full head taller than Sun Sanping, who was already considered tall in the brigade!

Shiyue had never seen such a tall man before, and couldn't help but take another look.

Who knew that the man was so perceptive.

He seemed to easily notice Shiyue's scrutiny and glanced at her.

His gaze swept over Shiyue, making her feel an indescribable sharpness.

Shi Yue quickly composed herself and turned her gaze to Sun Sanping.

Sun Sanping introduced her to her, saying, "Sister Shiyue, this is Yu Chuxia, an educated youth from the city. She will be staying at your house from now on. The team asked me to bring her over."

Knowing that the woman who moved in wasn't the educated youth who shouted slogans on the mule cart, Shiyue secretly breathed a sigh of relief, and her gaze towards Yu Chuxia became much kinder.

She smiled at Yu Chuxia and said, "Welcome, the house has been cleaned up for you, come in."

When Chu Xia saw that the host of the house she was going to stay with was the girl who had come back with them in the same car, she breathed a sigh of relief and her smile deepened.

She said "thank you" and went into the yard.

The three male educated youths following behind her were also about to go inside.

Shiyue quickly stopped her.

"I'll help her with her things; she can come in by herself."

Seeing her action, the three stopped and looked at Sun Sanping, who was still standing to the side.

Jiang Dong, the shortest of the three, spoke up to explain: "We're her brothers, so we just went in to help her put her things away and tidy up. We'll be right back."

Shiyue remained blocking the doorway, stubbornly saying, "The house is already tidied up, there's no need to tidy up, I'll help her carry her things."

Seeing this situation, Sun Sanping was in a dilemma, but he still had to lean towards Shiyue.

He looked at the three people and said unhappily, "Why send such a small gift? Can't they carry it themselves? A woman's house isn't a place you can just barge into. Let her tidy up herself!"

After saying that, he turned and left.

Jiang Dong was still arguing unhappily, but He Lixuan pulled him back.

He Lixuan glanced at his cousin, who was standing helplessly inside the door, handed her the roll of luggage he was carrying, and said, "Take it in yourself."

His voice was clear and cool, leaving no room for argument.

Yu Chuxia quickly caught it.

Seeing this, Jiang Dong and Ye Pu'an could only hand over the bags and nets they were carrying from the doorway.

Yu Chuxia couldn't carry it at all, so they could only put it on the ground near the door.

After putting everything away, He Lixuan said calmly, "I'm leaving," and then turned and left.

The other two looked at Yu Chuxia with concern before chasing after He Lixuan.

The smile on Yu Chuxia's face disappeared, replaced by nervousness and helplessness.

Shiyue glanced at her, walked over to pick up the things placed by the door, and took the lead, saying, "Let's go, you'll live in this room from now on."

Yu Chuxia quickly followed.

Shiyue tidied up the room that Yu Chuxia used to live in; she couldn't bear to let others use the room that her parents had lived in.

Although the room is small, it is very tidy.

Inside, besides a fire pit, there were also matching tables and benches, and a small wardrobe stood against the wall.

This wardrobe is something no other family has; it's only because her parents love their daughter that they were willing to spend that much wood on it.

Although this house is also made of adobe, its windows are larger than those of ordinary houses, so the ventilation and lighting inside are naturally better than those of other houses.

Although the paper pasted on the window was old, it was not torn at all and looked flat and smooth.

The whole house felt clean and tidy.

Yu Chuxia never expected that the place she chose would be so good!

You see, she had heard descriptions of the harsh conditions in the countryside before, and had prepared herself mentally in advance.

So once she entered the house, all her previous slight dissatisfaction vanished instantly, and a smile returned to her face.

Seeing her like this, Shiyue knew that this woman was simple-minded, and her liking for her grew even stronger.

During her year or so at the Sun family home, she dealt with Wang Feng, a woman with a mind more cunning than a sieve, every day, and she was exhausted.

She was quite happy to have found a trustworthy tenant.

Because of this satisfaction, Shiyue was willing to talk to Yu Chuxia a little more.

She said, "Don't be upset about what happened earlier. You should have heard that I'm a newly divorced person, and I'm currently living at my parents' house."

Someone like me is more mindful of my public image and reputation. So from now on, if there's anything you need to discuss, either discuss it outside the home, or come during the day.

Once it gets dark, men are not allowed to enter or leave this house.

Yu Chuxia had vaguely overheard people around her discussing that one of the families they had chosen was a recently divorced man, but she was talking to her cousin at the time and didn't pay any attention.
