Chapter 203 The Lock is Open

Shiyue thought about it and felt that her husband made sense.

It's time to see what's inside that wooden box.

Those were her mother's keepsakes, and Shiyue naturally wanted to preserve them carefully.

After learning that the lock shouldn't be touched, she immediately extinguished her newly aroused curiosity.

Shiyue had considered what might be inside that box.

She felt it was either some of her mother's personal belongings, such as small items brought from her parents' home.

Or perhaps it's some small piece of jewelry, or maybe it's part of the mother's dowry.

But whatever it was, Shiyue was unwilling to damage the box's integrity.

In her heart, her mother's belongings were more important than what was inside them.

But if the secret in that box concerns their family's safety, then that's a different story.

Shiyue had thought it through; she couldn't risk her and her family's safety for the sake of an object.

Although she is on the island now, she will eventually have to leave the island.

Moreover, she couldn't be sure if those people would continue looking for her after they couldn't find anything in her hometown!

After figuring it out, Shiyue immediately decided to open the box and see what was inside.

Making a decision is hard, but once you do, things become much easier.

No matter how difficult the lock was to open, it was still just a wooden box.

If you really can't open it, pry it open. If that doesn't work, you can make a hole in the back of the box to take out what's inside.

After making up her mind, Shiyue felt calm, and the couple quickly drifted off to sleep.

Obviously, He Liping told his wife about what happened at Shiyue's house after he went back, and Liang Yueming was very worried.

They arrived very early the next morning.

Shiyue had already gotten up early enough, but when she got up, she found that her sister-in-law was already in the kitchen and had almost finished cooking the porridge.

The two of them quickly worked together to make breakfast and then delivered it to the expert team early in the morning.

Because everyone got up so early, it was only a little before eight o'clock when they finished all the work.

Seeing that there was nothing else to do, Shiyue said to Liang Yueming, "Sister-in-law, why don't you go back and rest for a while? We'll start working again at ten o'clock. I'm going to talk to Mom."

Liang Yueming couldn't help but chuckle: "What do you want to say to Mom?"

Shiyue explained, "When I was packing my things yesterday, I found that I had brought two nine-linked rings with me when I came from my hometown. Lixuan said that my mother used to like these kinds of little things, and asked me to take them to see if she still wants to play with them now."

Hearing her say that, Liang Yueming nodded: "Go ahead, go ahead. Mom used to really enjoy figuring out those little things. She even played with Jiajia. But Jiajia didn't like playing with them; she thought she couldn't learn them."

After saying that, he went home first.

Shiyue tidied up the house a little, then went out with a bag in her arms.

The bag contained a box left by her mother, two nine-linked rings, and a tangram puzzle.

Those were all designs she drew herself and had her father make for her when her mother was still alive.

Shiyue herself is quite skilled at playing.

As expected, Fu Yunfang really liked the two nine-linked rings.

I took it apart in no time, and then put it back together in just a few minutes.

Shiyue sat to the side watching her mother-in-law play, until she played with it several times and gradually lost interest before handing over the wooden box.

He said, "Mom, I'll give you something else to play with. Do you see this lock? Lixuan said it's a five-character poem lock. Can you try to unlock it?"

Upon hearing this, Fu Yunfang put down the nine-linked rings and picked up the wooden box to examine it.

She first turned the wooden box upside down and looked at it, then her gaze fell on the small lock.

Shiyue sat quietly to one side, watching, too nervous to even breathe.

I was afraid that I might accidentally interrupt my mother-in-law's train of thought.

Although my mother-in-law is much more lucid than before, she has not fully recovered.

Her interest in things is always fleeting.

If she gets interested, she might watch and play for a while longer.

Once she loses interest, she'll easily put it down and never look at it again.

Shiyue only hoped that her mother-in-law could maintain her interest in the lock for a little longer.

Clearly, Fu Yunfang sensed her hope.

She squinted and leaned closer to examine the small brass lock.

At that moment, Shiyue wanted to run to her father-in-law as fast as she could and borrow his reading glasses for her mother-in-law to use!

She soon noticed that her mother-in-law was writing something quickly on the table with her finger.

Shiyue immediately got up and ran to the next room to get paper and pen.

Fu Yunfang immediately took it.

Fu Yunfang seemed to have not held a pen in a long time; she even stared at the pencil for a moment.

But soon she started writing on paper with a pen.

Shi Yue held her breath and leaned closer to watch quietly.

Springtime is here and the scenery is beautiful.

She saw that her mother-in-law had written an idiom.

Shiyue was a little puzzled, but she didn't dare to ask.

All we could do was sit there and watch.

Then she saw her mother-in-law turn the pivot on the lock with her hand, trying to identify it as she turned it.

Shiyue's heart pounded, afraid that her mother-in-law might accidentally lock the door shut with a snap.

After turning the paper a few times, Fu Yunfang wrote another idiom on it.

Upholding integrity and moral character.

Shiyue realized at this moment that her mother-in-law was translating the words on the rotating scroll.

Her husband had told her before that the characters on the rotating shaft should be in small seal script, and that his mother was skilled in calligraphy and knew many different scripts.

It seems he was right; the mother-in-law did indeed know what was written on the scroll.
