"What did it have to do with me?"
Shiyue was quite confused.
She turned her head to look at He Lixuan, and saw confusion in his eyes as well.
It seems he didn't get a word of it either.
"The deputy captain presided over the newspaper reading this morning," He Lixuan explained.
Looking back now, the brigade leader should have already gone to the commune by then.
With Sun Yongfu gone, the things the two of them had agreed upon could not be discussed, and the things they had brought could not be left behind.
Seeing Chen Guihua's eyes still glancing at the basket covered with cloth, Shiyue smiled slightly and said to her, "Aunt Guihua, where's Xiaohong? She's not home either?"
"She went out, probably to gossip with someone. What, do you need her for something?"
"It's nothing serious. I just bought two pieces of cloth in town and asked her to help me make a coat."
As Shiyue spoke, she magically produced the two pieces of cloth from the basket and then began talking to Chen Guihua about making clothes.
Sun Xiaohong had obviously told her mother before that the scraps of cloth belonged to their family. Chen Guihua took the cloth and smiled from ear to ear once again.
While talking to her, Shiyue quietly handed the basket to He Lixuan without making a sound.
He Lixuan took it and found it to be heavy, knowing that it contained canned food and malted milk powder.
Even though she was still very anxious, she was amused by Shiyue's wit.
An involuntary smile curved her lips.
Just as Shiyue and Chen Guihua were having a lively conversation, Sun Xiaohong came running back from outside, panting heavily.
She slammed the door open, and without even saying hello to her mother, she yelled at Shiyue, "Shiyue, what are you doing talking nonsense here? Your house is about to be ransacked!"
One sentence completely changed the expressions of Shi Yue and He Lixuan!
"My goodness, you can't say things like that!"
Chen Guihua was so startled by her daughter's shout that she trembled and dropped the cloth in her hand to the ground.
She quickly picked up the cloth, went over and slapped Sun Xiaohong on the back: "What nonsense are you talking about!"
"I'm not talking nonsense. Shiyue, come with me right now! Sun Tieniu and his men have surrounded your house! When I arrived, those two educated youths and Chuxia were blocking the door!"
While Sun Xiaohong was explaining, He Lixuan had already rushed to the wall behind Chen Guihua and grabbed the hoe that was placed there.
Seeing him like this, Shiyue didn't say a word and went over to grab the shovel on the side.
She tossed the shovel in her hand, finding it rather awkward, and then grabbed He Lixuan to switch with him.
The two then walked quickly ahead, with Sun Xiaohong keeping pace and walking beside Shiyue.
Chen Guihua had a feeling that something terrible was about to happen!
She tried to call her daughter back, but how could she stop her?
In a moment of distraction, the three of them had already walked away.
She muttered a few angry words, locked the cloth inside the house, and followed them.
Shiyue's home was bustling with more activity than ever before, even more so than a few days ago when Shen Feiyi brought her back and the whole brigade came to watch.
After all, it was the middle of the night then, and now it's just past noon.
Even from a great distance, Shi Yue could hear Jiang Dong's roar: "Who dares to come in? Anyone who takes another step forward, I'll chop you to pieces!"
Jiang Dong must have been shouting with all his might; his voice was practically split open.
Shiyue's heart skipped a beat, and at the same time she saw the man beside her start running.
She followed and ran towards the door.
Squeezing into the dense crowd, Shiyue didn't look at Jiang Dong and his two companions who were standing at the door holding shovels, hoes, and even sickles, confronting the outsiders. Instead, her gaze fell on the men wearing red armbands standing next to Sun Tieniu.
Those were all unfamiliar faces; they weren't from around here at all.
Two of the men were wearing slightly worn military uniforms, one was wearing a blue factory uniform, and the other three were dressed very plainly, indistinguishable from the villagers nearby.
But they all wore red armbands and looked righteous and arrogant.
Even Sun Chengcai's brother, Sun Tieniu, who is usually lazy and cowardly, is now wearing a red armband on his sleeve and looks much more imposing than usual.
"This isn't your house, why are you blocking the door? Don't tell me you and Shiyue are all in cahoots, a bunch of bourgeois brats?"
"Bullshit!"
Without thinking about anything, Shi Yue swung her hoe at Sun Tie Niu!
Her strength was immense, leaving no room for retreat; the hoe whistled through the air!
Sun Tieniu actually saw Shiyue when she came over.
But he didn't expect Shiyue to act so unpredictably.
He had originally intended to show off a bit, but before he could even say a few words, the man swung his hoe at him.
Sun Tieniu cried out and squatted down, clutching his head. The hoe grazed his scalp and fell to the ground beside him.
Sun Tieniu was so frightened that he broke out in a sweat!
"Shiyue!" He was so angry that he sat down on the ground and shouted at Shiyue.
Shiyue didn't even respond, and grabbed the hoe, swinging it at Sun Tieniu again!
Shiyue was really too reckless.
Those on the reckless side were momentarily stunned.
Even those who came to support Sun Tieniu remained silent for a moment, let alone went to help.
Sun Tieniu reacted quickly, rolling to the side and then scrambling to his feet. He hid behind a man in military uniform, saying in a panic, "Captain Li, grab her! Look, this is anti-government, counter-revolutionary behavior! She... she's going against the people's regime!"
