Chapter 54 Acting Cute

Shiyue sniffed and quickly wiped away the tears that were about to fall with her fingers.

She thought she had concealed it well, but Shen Yuanbai still saw it.

He sighed softly, patted Shiyue's hand, and said, "It's my fault. I didn't keep an eye on him."

Uncle Shen's hands were cold, but Shiyue felt warm inside.

She shook her head: "No, Uncle, please don't say that. It's his bad character that's the problem, it has nothing to do with you."

Shen Yuanbai sighed again.

This time he didn't say anything, but went into the house with Shiyue.

When they went in, Shen Ningning was carrying a large bowl out of the kitchen.

She placed the bowl on the table and said to Shiyue, "Shiyue, come and eat these two fried eggs! It's too cold, have something warm to warm up."

After saying that, she looked at Shen Yuanbai and said, "Dad, I didn't cook you a poached egg, so how about I make you some egg tea? There's still some sesame oil at home, I'll scald it with hot water and make you a bowl, then add some sugar, and you'll feel warm after you eat it."

Shen Yuanbai waved his hand at her, saying, "I don't want it. Don't make it for me. Save the eggs for Shiyue to cook tonight."

"These are the eggs that Shiyue gave you as a token of her respect. Where else can you find them at home?"

As Shen Ningning spoke, she turned her head slightly towards Shi Yue and sighed, "Dad, you have no idea how foolish this girl is. She's practically moved all her belongings over here!"

Shen Yuanbai was taken aback by these words, clearly not understanding what his daughter meant.

Shen Ningning simply pulled him to the kitchen.

Soon, the old man's displeased snort came from inside: "Nonsense!"

Shiyue, who had originally wanted to go in and explain, was so frightened that she quickly pulled her legs back.

Without saying a word, she turned around, sat down, and started eating her fried egg, acting as if "it has nothing to do with me if I don't listen or watch."

However, Shen Yuanbai clearly had no intention of letting her go.

He quickly came out of the kitchen, then said to Shiyue with a stern face, "Take all these things back with you when you leave!"

Shiyue kept her head down and ate her food, ignoring him.

The old man was clearly still angry; his face was stern, and his previous kind expression was gone.

He pointed at Shiyue and scolded, "You're not a child anymore, how can you not think about the future? You took all the food I gave you? What will you eat when you get back? Will you tie your neck and refuse to eat or drink?"

Pfft!

Shen Ningning, who was following behind him, couldn't help but burst out laughing.

The old man immediately turned his head and glared at her. Shen Ningning quickly covered her mouth and put on a very serious expression.

Although Grandpa Shen looked fierce, Shiyue didn't find him scary at all.

Shiyue felt a long-lost sense of fatherhood from him.

Just as she was feeling sentimental, the old man started nagging again: "Your aunt, your sister Ningning, and I all have food supplies, we don't lack food."

"But you, a young girl like you, how many work points can you earn in a year? Those few work points certainly won't be enough to feed you! No way, when you leave, you'd better take all the grain back with you!"

"No, I won't take it," Shiyue finally said.

She didn't even look up, but her answer was crisp and loud.

It's impossible for anyone not to hear it.

"What did you say?" Shen Yuanbai was clearly surprised that Shiyue dared to contradict him.

Although I heard it, I still asked it instinctively.

Shiyue put down her bowl, looked up at Grandpa Shen, and repeated, "I said, I won't bring it."

Before Shen Yuanbai could get angry, she pouted.

She looked at the old man pitifully and said, "I carried this all the way here, I'm exhausted. It's so heavy, Uncle, are you going to make me carry it back? Uncle, are you disgusted with me? Do you think the things I brought aren't good enough, and you don't even want to take them back?"

As she spoke, her lips twitched, and her eyes visibly reddened again.

"You!" Shen Yuanbai pointed at Shiyue with his finger, furious but at a loss for words.

He was a serious person, and his two sons were like mice seeing a cat whenever they saw him.

Even his only daughter never acted spoiled towards him.

Where had he ever seen anyone like Shiyue who would blatantly lie, deliberately twist his meaning, and then turn the tables on him?

But Shen Yuanbai knew that the girl was doing this out of genuine filial piety.

He couldn't argue with them, he couldn't scold them, but deep down he didn't want to accept the child's lifeline...

He was so angry that he kept opening his mouth and pointing his finger, but he had no idea what to do with Shiyue.

Shen Ningning watched from the side and found it indescribably funny.

She never expected that this seemingly delicate little girl would dare to be so assertive in front of her father.

It was rare to see her father meet a worthy opponent, and she felt a secret sense of joy.

So seeing that the old man was about to get angry, he chose to purse his lips and stand behind to watch the show, without any intention of trying to persuade him.

Shiyue didn't really want to upset Uncle Shen.

After she finished speaking, she walked over, took Shen Yuanbai's arm, pressed him down into a chair, and then started talking.

She said, "Uncle, let me tell you about my divorce from Sun Cheng. I don't know how much you've heard, but I thought I'd tell you myself so you won't have to listen to hearsay and worry about it."

Shen Yuanbai did not refuse.

Clearly, he really wanted to know.

Not only him, but even Shen Ningning rushed to the kitchen after hearing this, and with unprecedented speed, made her father a bowl of egg tea, then brought it out and sat down to her father's left.

He stared at Shiyue, looking as if he wanted to eavesdrop as well.

Since Shiyue is going to speak, she won't prevent others from hearing it.

She frankly recounted everything that had happened in those few days to the two of them.

This also includes the requests she made to the team, and what she said to Sun Chengcai when she met him at the commune gate before she came.

After hearing what Shiyue said, Shen Ningning slammed her fist into her palm and cursed, "I have to divorce him! I can't live with this bastard for even a day! Shiyue, you did the right thing, I support you!"

Shiyue smiled and said, "I think I did the right thing. My life has been much better since I left their family."

Shen Yuanbai was deeply moved after hearing this.

He remained silent for a while before shaking his head and saying, "This time it's your dad's fault; he misjudged the person."

Shiyue can complain about her father, but she doesn't want others to say anything about him.

Upon hearing this, she immediately explained on behalf of her father: "This has nothing to do with my dad. He was already very ill at that time. He had no choice. In our area... he didn't have much of a choice."

Shen Yuanbai did not respond to Shiyue's words, clearly knowing that Shiyue was defending her father, and he could not argue with a child over such a matter.

He changed the subject and asked, "How did you meet Xiao Xiang? He seems to treat you quite well; he's very protective of you in his words."

Shi Yue blinked blankly: "What Xiao Xiang? Uncle Shen, I don't know what you're talking about?"

Shen Yuanbai and Shen Ningning were both stunned.
