When Jiang Ruyu arrived at the ward door with two lunchboxes wrapped in towels, she was about to push the door open when she heard voices inside.
"You're finally awake, Jiang Lin. Tell me, how many times have you fallen into my hands? Hmm? And it's getting worse each time?" Guan Jin looked at Jiang Lin's usually carefree and cheerful face, which was now just smiling as if he had lost all his energy. She felt uncomfortable and spoke with a hint of provocation.
Jiang Lin wanted to tease Guan Jin, but seeing her red eyes, he became anxious: "Hey, don't cry! Why are you crying? I didn't bully you. If someone comes in, I won't be able to explain myself."
Guan Jin gritted her teeth in anger: "It's you who bullied me."
Jiang Lin didn't know why girls' thoughts were as changeable as a child's face. He could only coax her gently: "Oh, don't cry. It's my fault, it's all my fault. I shouldn't have gotten hurt. I'll try to evolve a body of steel so that I can deflect all the bullets the enemy throws at me."
As she spoke, she started talking nonsense. Guan Jin was both angry and amused: "Can't you be reliable for once? You're always like this. Last time you came here covered in injuries, and this time you're even worse, completely unconscious. It's so worrying."
Jiang Lin chuckled: "Who's worried? You? Would you worry about me?"
Guan Jin blushed and glared at him: "I'm not worried about you. I'm talking about your sister. You have no idea, she came in the middle of the night. I don't know how a woman like her could come all the way from so far away. And..."
Jiang Ruyu hadn't intended to eavesdrop, but as soon as she stepped back a little, she heard them talking about her. She quickly pushed open the door, pretending not to know there were people in the room: "Oh, Dr. Guan is here. I just cooked some porridge and made some pigeon soup. Sit down and have some. You've been so worried about me lately, making so many trips every day."
Jiang Ruyu then looked at Jiang Lin and said, "Da Linzi, when you get better, you must treat Dr. Guan to a meal to thank him properly. He went to great lengths for you while you were unconscious."
Jiang Lin looked at his sister, then at Guan Jin, his heart feeling as if it were soaking in a hot spring. These were people he cared about and was unwilling to part with.
"Sis, I know, don't worry. Dr. Guan, would you do me the honor of coming?"
Guan Jin's face flushed red, and she didn't dare to look at Jiang Ruyu: "Um, I still have to do my rounds, so I'll be going now."
Guan Jin left in a hurry. Jiang Ruyu put down the lunchbox, adjusted Jiang Lin's lying position, and fed him.
"Sister, I'm fine now. The injuries are all superficial. I can eat by myself."
Jiang Ruyu knew that her younger brother was getting older and cared about his image, so she didn't insist on feeding him: "Okay, can you sit up?"
"Yes, sis, can you help me up?"
Jiang Ruyu helped her younger brother sit up, and Jiang Lin then ate his lunchbox by himself.
“These are all easily digestible foods. You can’t eat anything too oily or hard right now. You’ve been lying down for many days and have been fed through a nasogastric tube. You need to recover. I’ll make you your favorite foods later.”
"Okay, I love everything you make, sis." Jiang Lin ate slowly. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He ate a lunchbox of rice porridge and a lunchbox of pigeon soup with meat, chewing slowly and carefully.
Jiang Ruyu took the lunchbox to wash it, and when she came back, she asked him, "Do you need to go to the toilet?"
Jiang Lin shook his head: "No need, sister, I want to go out and have a look."
“Okay, I’ll go ask the nurse for a wheelchair.” Jiang Ruyu found a nurse and borrowed a wheelchair.
Jiang Lin was very weak due to prolonged inactivity. Jiang Ruyu helped him into a wheelchair and pushed him outside.
Once they reached an open area in the hospital, Jiang Lin asked his sister, "Sister, do you know what? This time, our team was forced into a minefield. It was that bead that protected me, and indirectly protected my teammates as well."
Jiang Ruyu was startled, but pretended to be confused as she looked at him: "What, what beads?"
Jiang Lin looked at his sister and said nothing more: "Sister, we can't bring out things like this again. We all have to write performance reports for this mission. Everyone felt that protective aura, but we don't know what it was. When we recover and return to the team, we will all be interrogated. This kind of thing can't happen a second time. We will all be monitored then."
Jiang Ruyu didn't say anything. She didn't know why this was happening. She just wanted her younger brother to have a protective charm to reduce the danger.
"Sister, I know you mean well and don't want me to be in danger, but sister, I want you all to be safe and sound. There are still many unsafe people in this world. Just because we are not a threat to others doesn't mean that others won't hurt us."
Jiang Lin's words dealt a heavy blow to Jiang Ruyu. She understood the meaning behind Jiang Lin's words. The existence of this system itself was something that people were wary of. If others didn't know about it, that would be fine, but once it was exposed, then her whole family would never be able to live a peaceful life.
Jiang Ruyu was left feeling confused and fearful after her conversation with Jiang Lin. That night, she couldn't help but talk to the system: "System, can you change hosts?"
The system remained silent for a long time, until Jiang Ruyu thought it would never speak again. Then it said, "Okay, the system exists to collect all the data in the present world. If the host is willing to hand the system over to someone else, the system has no right to resist."
Jiang Ruyu remained silent. Having the system had indeed made life much more convenient, but perhaps this system would be used more fully by others, since she was just an ordinary person.
But she needs to think about it carefully.
After staying in the hospital for another five days, Jiang Lin's health had almost fully recovered. During this time, Fang Chenggong came again and talked to Jiang Lin about something Jiang Ruyu didn't know, but this made Jiang Ruyu's desire to hand over the system even stronger.
"Sister, I have a 20-day vacation this time. Let's go home after I'm discharged from the hospital." Jiang Lin can move around normally now, and his wounds have almost healed. He just needs to remember to change the dressings.
"Okay, I'll go and get you discharged." Jiang Lin packed his things while Jiang Ruyu went to process his discharge.
When she returned, Guan Jin was in the ward again. Oh dear, why did she always run into people saying intimate things? She really didn't want to eavesdrop, so she could only step back and wait.
Guan Jin raised an eyebrow as she looked at the energetic person again: "You're recovering well. Ready to go home?"
Jiang Lin chuckled, straightened up, and leaned closer: "Would you like to check how my recovery is going?"
Jiang Lin's expression was somewhat lewd. Guan Jin's face flushed red with anger, and she pinched Jiang Lin's waist with her small hands. Jiang Lin hissed, "Heartless woman, I'm about to go on vacation, can't you be a little gentler?"
"Hmph, serves you right for always being so cheeky."
Jiang Lin leaned closer: "When I get back, you'll say yes, okay?"
