Chapter 3 System

Zheng Yang walked back home. Fortunately, the hospital wasn't far from his house. When the people in the courtyard saw him return, they all came out and asked, "Zheng Yang, how is Ruyu? Is she alright?"

Hearing the commotion, Wang Shuhua rushed out. Zheng Yang's eyes turned cold as he saw her: "That girl is badly injured. She's still unconscious at the hospital. She might have to be hospitalized for observation. Humph, if this were my sister, and someone beat her up like this, I would make them pay with their blood." After saying that, he went back to his own home.

People in the courtyard usually forget about disputes as soon as they turn their heads, but this time, the Jiang family members got into a fight and were injured so badly that everyone sighed and looked at Wang Shuhua with even more hostility. Jiang Ruyu was usually a girl with a very good temper who liked to talk and laugh. This three-courtyard housed more than a dozen families, and everyone praised her for being sensible. Now that she had been hit on the head by her cousin and aunt from the next room, everyone was quite worried.

At this point, Wang Shuhua no longer cared what others thought of her. She was terrified by what Zheng Yang had said. If something really happened to Ruyu, she and Ruyi would both be in deep trouble. Fearing for her, Wang Shuhua hurriedly went back to her room.

Jiang Ruyi, who was inside the house, complained when she saw her mother come back: "Mom, you didn't even put a face mask on me. My face is so swollen. Why haven't you cooked yet? I'm starving."

Wang Shuhua was still feeling the aftermath of her fear when she saw the culprit lying in bed still wanting to eat and drink. She was furious and went up to her, punching her twice: "You troublesome brat, you're almost starving to death! You might as well just starve to death! Ruyu is still unconscious in the hospital. If she's alright, that's fine, but if she's not, see if your dad will skin you alive when he gets back."

At the hospital, Jiang Ruyu's wound had been stitched up, but she had not woken up. After examining her, the doctor found nothing wrong and was afraid to discharge her for fear that she might suddenly develop a high fever at night and cause problems if she was not treated in time. So, the doctor admitted her to the hospital.

Meanwhile, Jiang Ruyu, who was unconscious, was trapped in a white, desolate place. There was a book there called "Military Marriage in the 1960s: Pampered Little Educated Youth." The content of the book was exactly the same as that of her family, except that the female protagonist was her cousin Jiang Ruyi, who was the villainous supporting character.

Because she was badly injured, her family disliked her intensely. The gossip and disapproving looks in the courtyard made Aunt Wang Shuhua unable to bear it any longer, so she enrolled Jiang Ruyi in a rural school. Unexpectedly, Jiang Ruyi became incredibly lucky in the countryside. While others sprained their ankles or were bitten by snakes when they went up the mountain, she found eggs, stumbled upon wild rabbits, and even found wild ginseng. She also met a young man from the compound who loved her dearly. After the college entrance examination was reinstated, they both passed and returned to the city, eventually becoming the envy of everyone as a military officer's wife.

As for Jiang Ruyu, the villainous female supporting character, she was disliked because of the scar on her forehead. Even though she had a good job at a department store, she couldn't find a husband she liked. After experiencing these things, her personality became extreme, stubborn, and inflexible. Originally, there was someone in the tenement who liked her, but he was driven away by her suspicion and sensitivity. In the end, she could only settle for marrying someone she didn't like, and her life was dull and tasteless.

Her younger brother, Jiang Hui, had worked hard to become a battalion commander after joining the army, but was eventually discharged by Jiang Ruyi through her husband's connections. He was devastated and lost all his former drive, spending his days in a daze.

My younger brother, Jiang Lin, went to the countryside and wasted a few years. In the end, he got married and had children in the countryside. When he returned to the city, Jiang Lin was admitted to a vocational school, but his wife and nephews and nieces could only live apart from him in the countryside because they did not have urban household registration.

After reading the book, Jiang Ruyu was furious. She strongly suspected that it was a book written by her brainless cousin to disgust her. She tried to calm herself down. Whether it was true or false, the book had taught her a lot, and she could make plans in advance so that her family would never live like this.

As she pondered this, the book suddenly vanished, and the surrounding white mist transformed into a ball of shimmering white light that flew into her mind. Just as she felt dizzy, a strange, emotionless voice rang out: "The Transcendental Check-in System is at your service."

She lost consciousness after that. When Jiang Ruyu woke up, it was already the afternoon of the next day. When she woke up, she felt a terrible headache, an extremely hungry stomach, and was also very thirsty. As soon as she moved, Jiang Lin, who was lying next to the bed, woke up with a start.

He looked up and saw that his sister had opened her eyes. He quickly jumped up and asked, "Sis, how are you? Are you feeling unwell?"

"Thirsty, hungry." Jiang Ruyu's voice was hoarse and her throat was dry and sore, and she spoke very softly.

Jiang Hui had just returned from fetching water when he heard his sister talking. He quickly ran over to pour her some water, but the boiling water was too hot, so he used two teacups to cool it down before carefully feeding her the water.

After drinking a few sips of water, Jiang Ruyu felt her sticky throat clear up a lot: "Where's Grandma? Is she alright? She must be so worried."

"Grandma went back to cook you porridge and make chicken soup. She should be back soon." Jiang Hui helped his sister sit up, and Jiang Lin ran out to call the doctor.

The doctor came in to examine Jiang Ruyu and asked how she was feeling: "She's fine now. You can be discharged soon. You need to stay in bed for two days. The wound can't get wet. Come back in two days to change the dressing, and come back in ten days to check the wound's healing and decide when to remove the stitches. Also, if you feel dizzy or nauseous, don't be afraid. It's just a mild concussion. You'll be fine after resting for a couple of days."

"Thank you, doctor, we understand," Jiang Lin and Jiang Hui said gratefully.

"It's my duty. Alright, get some rest. Oh, and remember, don't eat spicy food; it's bad for your wound healing," the doctor dutifully reminded him.

"Okay, I got it."

Not long after the doctor left, Grandma Jiang arrived with a lunchbox. Seeing that her granddaughter had finally woken up, the old lady could no longer hold back her tears: "You little rascal, you scared me to death! If anything had happened to you, it would have been the death of your grandmother! Does your head hurt? Is there anything else that's bothering you?"

Seeing her grandmother cry, Jiang Ruyu felt sad and started crying too: "Grandma, I'm fine now, don't cry. The doctor just said that I can be discharged soon and I just need to rest at home for a couple of days."

"Are you really alright? No, I have to go ask the doctor. Jiang Hui, you stay here and feed your sister some porridge. I'm going to find the doctor." The old lady was quite old, but her legs were still very nimble.

"Jiang Lin, hurry up and follow, keep an eye on him, don't let him fall." Jiang Ruyu knew that her grandmother was an impatient person, so she could only let her younger brother follow along.

Jiang Ruyu didn't let Jiang Hui feed her. She carried the thick millet porridge she had cooked and ate it with a white egg, finishing the whole lunchbox of porridge before she felt that she finally had food in her stomach. Her grandmother also came back smiling.

"Alright, it's good that you're alright. We've completed the discharge procedures and will be going home in a bit. This almost caused my heart to stop. Let's hurry home. This hospital is no place for humans to live; it's so expensive." Knowing that her granddaughter was alright, the old lady finally had the mood to say some funny things.
