Chapter 32 Zheng Yang Confesses His Love

How could this be allowed? He had finally set his sights on her. He hadn't dared to say anything before because she was young, but now that someone else was eyeing her, if he didn't take action, his chosen wife would run away, and he would have nowhere to cry.

Jiang Ruyu had already arrived at the park, but she deliberately didn't go in. Once she got there, she regretted it a little, but she couldn't go back on her promise. She thought that if she arrived late, people would think she was being difficult, so she could just go through the motions. Little did she know that Zheng Yang had already returned.

When Jiang Ruyu finally made it into the park, she realized she had made a mistake. It was a day off, and the park was packed with people. She even saw several other people who looked just like her, there on blind dates.

With so many people around, how was she supposed to find that guy with thick eyebrows, big eyes, and a mole on his chin? While Jiang Ruyu was searching for a blind date like looking for a needle in a haystack, Zheng Yang had already decisively brought gifts to her door.

After exchanging a few words with the old lady, she readily replied, "Oh, Ruyu? She went to Houhai to play."

Zheng Yang knew when to stop, and the old lady smiled as she watched the young man's retreating figure: "I thought it was just Ruyu having a one-sided crush, but it turns out she's in a hurry here."

Jiang Ruyu was so busy searching for someone that she was exhausted. Suddenly, she saw a man in plainclothes police uniform by the river. He seemed to match what Aunt Wang had described: thick eyebrows, big eyes, and a mole. However, he was a bit hard to describe.

You said thick eyebrows and big eyes, haha, I did see thick eyebrows, but where are the big eyes? With those eyebrows that disappear when you smile, where are the big eyes? The big mole the size of a marble at the corner of your mouth is quite noticeable though.

She couldn't help but rub her forehead and smile bitterly. How could Aunt Wang tell that someone looked good? It was like Wu Dalang trying to pass off as Zhao Yun. Indeed, blind dates were unreliable, just like when she went to her grandmother's house in the mountains as a child. You never knew if you'd find wild eggs or step in dog poop next.

Just as she was wondering how to avoid seeing this man without being criticized, a pretty and delicate-looking woman walked over shyly and said something to him. The two quickly hit it off and chatted happily. The woman would occasionally cover her mouth and giggle, and playfully punch the man. The man seemed to enjoy it very much and actually... grabbed the woman's hand.

"·····"

Jiang Ruyu watched in silence, mouth agape, as a blind date unfolded in a spectacle more captivating than any movie.

She looked up at the sky. Nothing had changed; it was still the same sky. What had happened? Who am I? Where am I? What sins have I committed to deserve such a... cough cough, wonderful sight?

Just as Jiang Ruyu was shocked by the bold and rapidly escalating relationship between the two people opposite her, a deep voice with an ambiguous tone came from behind: "So that's what your taste is like? Squinty eyes? Hooked nose, sausage lips, and a guy who's not even as tall as you?"

As Jiang Ruyu imagined this person based on the words she heard, she couldn't help but shudder.

"..." Listen to what nonsense you're spouting, what terrifying things you're saying.

"I didn't, you're lying, absolutely not!" Jiang Ruyu immediately withdrew her eyes from the spectacle and turned her head to see Zheng Yang looking at her meaningfully.

Jiang Ruyu instantly felt as guilty as a wife caught cheating by her lover. Realizing what she was thinking, she shook her head violently. She must have been provoked into acting abnormally by the man and woman opposite her.

How did you know I was here?

Zheng Yang looked up at the sky and down at the ground, but wouldn't look at Jiang Ruyu. His voice was a little aggrieved: "Hmph, I've been busy for so long and finally got a vacation. I was so happy to go home with gifts, hoping to find some heartless girl. But before I even got home, I heard that she went on a blind date. I thought, 'How can that work?' I've been eyeing my future wife for so long. If someone else snatches her away, I'll really have to find a mouse hole and flood the Golden Mountain."

Jiang Ruyu stared at Zheng Yang, mouth agape, as he spouted nonsense. She had never known that this person could talk such rubbish. She crossed her arms and listened to him.

Zheng Yang's ears turned red without him noticing. He wasn't one to say sweet words, and if this girl's blind date hadn't been such a shock to him, he really wouldn't have been able to say those things.

He originally thought that Ruyu was still quite young, and since there had been no reply to that letter, he didn't dare to press the issue too hard. He planned for them to get to know each other first, and then discuss marriage when she was a little older. Little did he expect that he would almost lose his wife without even realizing it.

Thinking that if he continues to be this busy, and this girl grows more and more beautiful, there will definitely be more and more people interested in her. Even if he guards her closely, he won't be able to keep up. Besides, the nature of his job means he can't see her all the time. People say that you can only be a thief for a thousand days, but you can't guard against thieves for a thousand days. He still needs to get himself a proper identity as soon as possible.

"Comrade Jiang Ruyu, I am now seriously seeking your opinion. I like you and want to have a serious relationship with you, with marriage as the goal. Do you agree?"

Zheng Yang dropped his nonchalant expression and looked at Jiang Ruyu seriously.

Jiang Ruyu was watching Zheng Yang make a fool of himself as if it were a spectacle, but before she knew it, he said something that made her unsure whether to be embarrassed or not. Looking at Zheng Yang's rather appetizing face, she touched her chin and clicked her tongue.

"Should I say yes or no?" If I thought I could win her over so easily, wouldn't she seem worthless?

Zheng Yang gave her a resentful look: "Of course I want you to agree. Tell me, what are your conditions?"

"Tch, do you think you're going to the supply and marketing cooperative to buy vegetables? What conditions? No conditions, let's see how you behave." She tossed her ponytail and pushed the cart away.

"Don't be like that, Comrade Ruyu. Look, it's almost noon. We haven't eaten together in so long. Today, I'll treat you. Let's go to Qianmen Street for roast duck, okay?" Zheng Yang said anxiously, grabbing Jiang Ruyu's slender arm with his long, strong hand.

Jiang Ruyu rolled her eyes at him: "Let go. Don't you know how strong you are? You're hurting me."

Zheng Yang immediately released the arm that seemed like it would break if he squeezed it. Jiang Ruyu rolled up her shirt sleeves and said, "Look, it's red. It'll swell up in a bit."

Zheng Yang glanced at her fair, smooth skin, where several bright finger marks were clearly visible. He opened his mouth and said, "How could this be? I didn't even use any force. How come you're like clay, ready to crumble at the slightest touch?"

Jiang Ruyu really wanted to slap him across the face: "Do you think girls are like you, a smelly and hard-as-a-man? I'm a girl, and I'm very delicate."

Zheng Yang raised his hands in apology: "I'm sorry, it was my fault. To make up for my mistake, my delicate Comrade Jiang Ruyu, please accept my invitation to dinner."
