When the report card was mentioned, Gu Changzhu paused for a moment as he reached for the sweet potato.
There could be no more obvious action than this.
Gu Hanping put down the bamboo basket and was about to pick up the carrying pole to hit someone.
The idea that "spare the rod and spoil the child" has long been a common belief in China.
When Hao Pingping returned, she discovered this scene.
Gu Hanping followed behind with a carrying pole, while Gu Changzhu ran ahead, even carrying a sweet potato in his hand, occasionally taking a bite or two.
Hao Pingping was both amused and exasperated; her son was about to be beaten, yet he still couldn't bear to run away.
It seems this sweet potato is delicious?
Why didn't I have this thought before?
When we eat sweet potatoes at home, doesn't he always eat the smallest one?
"Alright, his dad. What happened? Are you trying to kill him?"
When Hao Pingping tried to stop him, Gu Hanping put down the carrying pole.
He's getting old, and running like this almost killed him.
A crowd had gathered around to watch, and they all asked, "Captain, what happened to your house?"
"Has Changzhu done something bad?"
Gu Hanping glared at him fiercely. He said anything else was fine, but doing bad things was unacceptable.
Fortunately, someone seemed to remember something at this moment and said, "By the way, are we going to pick up report cards today? Captain, I hope Changzhu didn't do badly on the test?"
This person's words did help to get out of the predicament.
They changed the subject away from the previous claim that he had done something wrong.
But this isn't exactly a compliment.
Everyone accepted Gu Hanping as the brigade leader.
But there are also those who feel envy, jealousy, and hatred.
If someone makes you feel uncomfortable, it means that they have a dark side.
Gu Hanping glared fiercely at Gu Changzhu. It was all this kid's fault for making him lose face.
Once inside, Gu Hanping said to Hao Pingping, "These are chestnut sweet potatoes that Yunyang grew. He kept some to cook and eat. Try them and see how they taste. From now on, we should all switch to growing these chestnut sweet potatoes."
Hao Pingping stepped forward and saw that there were quite a few: "How about I cook some porridge and pickles tonight, and eat them with sweet potatoes?"
As she spoke, Hao Pingping reached out and took one, biting into it without even peeling it.
Who knew that the sweet potato had a very thin skin? One bite and the sweetness burst forth.
"Why are these sweet potatoes so sweet?"
As the wife of the brigade leader, Hao Pingping is always very serious when she works.
To avoid giving others a handle to accuse Gu Hanping of abusing his power for personal gain.
So even though she heard that Gu Yunyang had gotten some chestnut sweet potato, and that someone had secretly eaten it.
But she neither tasted it nor saw it.
These sweet potatoes aren't very big now, about three fingers wide and a little longer than the palm of your hand. They taste really good.
"These sweet potatoes are quite delicious."
Hao Pingping said this as she went to the kitchen to cook porridge.
Gu Hanping glanced at his son sneaking around outside and said irritably, "Let me see your report card. Also, how did Yunyang do on the exam?"
Gu Changzhu stammered, "Don't even mention that pervert..."
Um?
Gu Hanping glanced at him, and Gu Changzhu immediately became honest: "I was only two points away from a perfect score. The teacher deliberately deducted two points from my essay."
Upon receiving the report card, Gu Hanping raised an eyebrow, hearing that his nephew had scored nearly full marks while his own son had barely passed.
His anger, which had subsided, resurfaced.
I really couldn't help it.
Some people are starting to get restless again.
Gu Changzhu then took out Gu Yunyang's report card. Since Gu Yunyang had things to do in the brigade, Gu Changzhu took care of getting the report card for him.
