Chapter 12 Sending Money

Lu Fangfang immediately received a group of blessings from the soldiers.

Her face was burning hot, and she only breathed a sigh of relief after entering Zhuang Mingcheng's place.

Zhuang Mingcheng's house is very small.

The furnishings inside were very simple: a table for writing and two stools on the east side.

There was a single bed against the wall, with the blankets neatly folded. Apart from that, there was no other large furniture.

"Please sit wherever you like."

Zhuang Mingcheng greeted them, then walked to the table and opened the drawer.

After rummaging through the money, he took a current account passbook and a bunch of banknotes and walked towards Lu Fangfang.

He served in the army for so many years, and he was always alone.

He didn't need to send money back to his family in the capital, so he saved up some, about six or seven hundred, which was quite a sum.

“The grain coupons I have are all from Gansu Province. There are only a few grain coupons in the whole country. Wait for me a moment, I’ll go ask my colleagues to see if I can exchange them.”

Lu Fangfang looked at the pile of money in her hand, somewhat at a loss.

Seeing that Zhuang Mingcheng was about to leave, Lu Fangfang quickly called out to him, "Don't go yet."

Lu Fangfang took out ten ten-yuan bills, and gave the rest of the money to Zhuang Mingcheng.

"Don't you send more?"

"One hundred is a lot."

In this day and age, one hundred yuan is a lot of money.

In rural areas, a family might work in the production brigade for a year and not necessarily receive a share of 100 yuan at the end of the year.

If you use it frugally, it can last for several years.

Zhuang Mingcheng shook his head, then counted out ten more ten-yuan bills and pushed them into Lu Fangfang's hand.

"My home is far away, so I should send more money. In case something happens, having money on hand will be a lifeline."

Lu Fangfang suddenly felt a pang of sadness, and she nodded silently.

"Here are fifty more. Take them all. And these cloth coupons. When you go to the county, buy some cloth and make yourself some clothes. In a few days, it will get warmer."

Zhuang Mingcheng tidied up and gave all the remaining money and bills in his hand to Lu Fangfang.
