"What? The application for housing in the family compound has been approved?"
Lu Fangfang's eyes lit up, and she immediately forgot about Xiao Ting.
No one, not even Xiao Ting or Zhu Haiming, is as important as a warm home.
"Yes, the application has been approved."
Zhuang Mingcheng nodded, and seeing Lu Fangfang happy, a smile appeared on his resolute face.
He reached into his military uniform pocket with his right hand, pulled out a key, and shook it.
Lu Fangfang was so excited that she couldn't wait to go and see the new house.
As she was thinking, she suddenly saw a slender hand reach out and grab her arm.
"Fangfang, stop washing. Come on, I'll take you to see her now."
"No rush, no rush, I'll be done washing soon."
Lu Fangfang suppressed her excitement.
She pried Zhuang Mingcheng's hands off and sped up the rinsing of the clothes.
Seeing that Zhuang Mingcheng was about to interfere, she quickly pushed him aside.
"Your injured hand hasn't healed yet, so don't cause any trouble."
Zhuang Mingcheng looked at his left hand, which was in a sling, and tried to move it slightly.

She slapped his hand away as he tried to remove the bandage, and then carefully put it back on for him.

Zhuang Mingcheng smiled; it felt so good to be cared for.
Seeing that Lu Fangfang had a layer of fine beads of sweat on her forehead, he took out a handkerchief from his shirt pocket and gently wiped it away.
"Fangfang, it's okay, don't worry. My arm is almost healed. Look, I can move it again."
As he spoke, Zhuang Mingcheng laboriously raised his left hand.
He didn't want to get married with bandages on; that would look terrible. He wanted to give Lu Fangfang the perfect wedding possible.

Suddenly realizing she had said something wrong, she quickly spat a few more times, "Ptooey, ptooey, ptooey! You've made me so angry I'm confused."
"Don't move it anymore. When we get back, we'll see a doctor. If the doctor doesn't agree, you can't remove it."
Zhuang Mingcheng nodded silently.
Lu Fangfang glared at him again before going back to wash her clothes.
However, she would look back from time to time, afraid that Zhuang Mingcheng would do something foolish again.
After a while, the clothes were all rinsed clean. Lu Fangfang picked up the basin and went back to the regimental headquarters with Zhuang Mingcheng.
After hanging the washed clothes on the clothesline, Zhuang Mingcheng was about to take Lu Fangfang to the family compound.
"Why don't you go to the medical room to have your arm checked first?"
"No need, it's alright."
Zhuang Mingcheng repeated the same two sentences.
Seeing Lu Fangfang hesitate, he grabbed her arm and pulled her towards the family compound.
"Um?"
Lu Fangfang looked at her tightly clenched hand.
She glanced at Zhuang Mingcheng again and noticed that both of the man's ears were red.
Lu Fangfang smiled and couldn't help but laugh, "Comrade Zhuang Mingcheng, is it too cold? I see your ears are all red from the cold."

After replying with one sentence, Zhuang Mingcheng's ears turned even redder.
Lu Fangfang watched, grinning foolishly.
However, the two had only been walking for a short while when they ran into soldiers from the regiment. Zhuang Mingcheng quickly let go of Lu Fangfang's hand, took a few quick steps, and moved further away from her.
In this day and age, even married couples, let alone engaged couples, don't hold hands in public. They still need to be careful.

After leaving the regimental headquarters, the two quickly arrived at the family compound.
As soon as she entered the gate, Lu Fangfang saw five or six women in the first row of houses, holding their children and sunbathing.
It was the same familiar place; Lu Fangfang had seen it before, so it didn't seem strange to her.
Zhuang Mingcheng, on the other hand, rarely came to the family compound before, and felt a little uncomfortable being watched by so many women.
"Looks like we're getting some new people in our residential compound."
"It's good to have new people. The residential compound is so remote, the more new people the better, otherwise there's no one to chat with."
"Battalion Commander Zhuang, are you and your fiancée moving into the family compound?"
"Yes, Battalion Commander Zhuang, when are you getting married? Are you inviting us?"
A group of women asked questions all at once.
The story of what happened by the river had already spread among the women, so they weren't surprised to see Zhuang Mingcheng and Lu Fangfang coming over.
Zhuang Mingcheng felt a chill run down his spine. He gave a few perfunctory words and hurriedly led Lu Fangfang away.
The women weren't in a hurry; they watched the two men with smiles as they walked towards the first row of houses, the last one on the east side.

Zhuang Mingcheng stood in front of the house, feeling somewhat excited.
From now on, he and his lover will live in this place, and his future child will be born here!
