Chapter 176 The Brand New Commander Zhuang

"Go away, you little simp."

Lu Fangfang shooed the little Tibetan fox aside and took a towel, preparing to give Xiao Hua a good wipe.

"Meow~"

Xiao Hua looked at the rabbit, then looked up at Lu Fangfang, as if she was about to praise her.

"Wow, my little flower is the best! So awesome!"

Stroking Xiaohua's head, Lu Fangfang simply added some hot water, soaped Xiaohua, and started washing her body.

It was a rainy day, and I don't know where Xiaohua caught the rabbit.

If it crawled down a rabbit hole, it might have fleas, so I'll have to wash it thoroughly.

"Meow~"

Little Flower sat in the basin with her eyes squinted, looking completely content.

"Awoo~ Awoo~"

The little Tibetan fox stretched its head out and kept nuzzling against Xiaohua.

This little guy was terrified of Xiaohua when he first came to our home, but now he's become such a sycophant.

"Don't you dare cause trouble."

Lu Fangfang shook her head and reached out to shoo the little Tibetan fox aside.

She didn't want to waste any more rags on the little Tibetan fox since there were no dry ones left after the rain.

"Awoo~"

The little Tibetan fox wagged its tail, and seeing that it was not welcome, it had no choice but to drag its injured leg to the rabbit.

It cried out repeatedly as it bit at the dead rabbit.

"Hey, don't bite the skin off! Little Flower is always careful when she scratches it."

Seeing this, Lu Fangfang felt somewhat helpless.

When Xiao Hua was little, she wasn't like this. This little Tibetan fox looks like a big yellow dog, and her personality is similar too. She's never quiet, so it's no wonder she's a canine fox.

"Meow~"

In the basin of water, Little Flower opened her eyes and bared her teeth at the little Tibetan fox.

"Waaah..."

The little Tibetan fox tucked its tail between its legs and quickly ran under the bed, too afraid to move again.

Lu Fangfang felt that she had finally calmed down.

She changed the water for Xiaohua, scrubbed her for a while, and then took a towel and carefully wiped Xiaohua's body.

Touching the leopard skin, she couldn't resist bringing her face closer and rubbing it against it.

"Little Flower feels so comfortable."

"Meow~"

Little Flower nuzzled her face against Lu Fangfang's, tugging her head in the air.

After holding and petting Xiaohua in her arms for a while, Lu Fangfang finally let go of her.

She drew the dagger from her waist, picked up the wet rabbit, and treated it.

These days, Xiaohua can catch a rabbit every two or three days, rain or shine, and the family has accumulated quite a few rabbit skins.

She plans to bring the rabbit skins to sell next time she goes to the county.

Xiaohua is still young and doesn't have many expenses, so she can buy a bottle of face cream when the time comes.

"Little Flower, here you go."

Lu Fangfang cut off a rabbit leg and tossed it to Xiao Hua.

Turning her head to look under the wooden bed, she said to the little Tibetan fox in an annoyed tone, "You come here too."

"Awoo~"

The little Tibetan fox immediately ran over happily.

It looked up at Lu Fangfang, its little yellow face full of anticipation.

"You should learn from Xiaohua, and stop being so carefree all the time."

He removed the rabbit's internal organs and put them into the little Tibetan fox's bowl.

She fed most of the rabbit to the two little ones, and planned to stir-fry the remaining meat to eat with Zhuang Mingcheng that evening.

Seeing that the rain outside had lessened, Lu Fangfang picked up her basket, put on her raincoat, and went to the wasteland by the riverbank.

These past few days it's been raining and the sun hasn't been out, but the vegetables in the wasteland haven't been affected; in fact, they seem to be growing even faster.

The grass in the field was the same; after just a few days, some of it had grown up to her calves.

She needs to hurry up and do some hoeing once the weather gets better.

Carrying a basket, she picked a few tomatoes and then pulled up a handful of greens.

The green beans in the field next door were full of vines, and they would get too old if she didn't eat them soon, so she picked half a basketful while the rain was light.

The weather is bad now, so she can't dry and store the food, and she can't eat it either. She's quite worried about it.

"Let's ask Mingcheng tonight and see if the troupe wants it."

The cucumber trellis was also full of cucumbers, many of them old. She took a basket and picked some small cucumbers with flowers still attached, planning to pickle them in a jar and save them for winter.

She was busy when she heard someone coming from the vegetable garden behind her.

She turned around and saw Wang Shufen carrying a basket, preparing to pick vegetables.

"Hey girl, where did you pick those mushrooms the other day? They tasted so fresh. After all this rain, they must have sprouted again."

Lu Fangfang was also thinking about this when she came over carrying a basket of vegetables.

"Sister Shufen, I picked those yellow mushrooms in the grassland at the foot of Guona Mountain. Let's go back and pick more after the rain stops. I reckon there should be some in other grasslands too."

She felt like she was rusting after staying home for several days without going out.

When we went mushroom picking, we took Xiaohua and the little Tibetan fox with us to the grassland for some fresh air.

"Okay, sis, call me when you go."

After chatting for a few more minutes, Lu Fangfang carried her basket home.

She chopped some tender vegetable leaves and fed them to the quail, chickens, and ducks at home. Then she started preparing dinner.

She made a tomato salad with sugar, and couldn't resist taking a bite of it while she was making it.

The tomatoes of this era tasted sweet and sour, with a strong tomato flavor, quite different from those of later generations.

She felt it was good to save some tomato seeds, otherwise, in a few decades, she wouldn't be able to find this old variety to eat.

She chopped some chili peppers and stir-fried them with rabbit meat.

Looking at the green beans in the basket, she hesitated for a moment, then gave up and didn't bother to cook them.

I've been eating this stuff every day for days, I'm getting sick of it.

She poured some water into the basin, sat behind the door, and began washing the cucumbers.

It was getting late, and as soon as Zhuang Mingcheng returned from the troupe, he saw his wife busy at work.

Feeling a little excited, he quickly walked into the house, stood in front of Lu Fangfang, and saluted.

"Comrade Lu Fangfang, take a look and see what's different about me today."

"Hey? Mingcheng, your regiment got new uniforms?"

Zhuang Mingcheng smiled and shook his head. He took out his work ID from his pocket and handed it to his lover.

"Look what this is."

"What exactly happened?"

Lu Fangfang wiped the water off her hands and took the small red notebook from his hand.

She took it and looked at it, and found that the work permit was still new.

A guess immediately formed in her mind, and she hurriedly flipped open her work ID. "Zhuang Mingcheng, 1st Regiment, 55th Division, Lanzhou Military Region, rank... Deputy Regiment Commander..."

"Deputy Commander!!!"

Lu Fangfang stood up abruptly, looking at Zhuang Mingcheng with surprise, "Mingcheng, you're the regimental commander now?!"

These days, she had heard a lot of news in the family compound about her husband being promoted, and now that it has finally been confirmed, she was overjoyed.

"Deputy Regiment Commander."

Zhuang Mingcheng couldn't help but sigh.

Because of his mother's situation, he always felt that he had obtained this position through dishonest means, which diminished his joy.

"Mingcheng, don't overthink it. The group originally recommended you to the higher-ups."

Lu Fangfang knew why her husband was sighing, so she quickly pushed Zhuang Mingcheng and made him sit down in the chair at the table.

Today is a good day, we should celebrate it properly.
