"Awoo~"
The little Tibetan fox stared at the rabbits on the shelf, its mouth watering.
"You little glutton, open your mouth."
Lu Fangfang took the dagger and threw all the grease scraped off the rabbit skin into the little Tibetan fox's mouth, wasting not a single bit.
She picked up the rabbit skin and hung it aside to air dry. Then she went inside, mixed some marinade, and applied it to the smooth rabbit with her hands.
After finishing her work, she washed her hands and then took the dagger outside.
She cut down two larger birch trees and hung her military water bottle on them.
"Tick-tock, tick-tock..."
Seeing that the kettle had been filled with birch sap, Lu Fangfang looked at the tree trunk again.
Yes, every single one of these birch trees in front of the family compound looks like it's been cut into pieces.
It wasn't all cut by her and Zhuang Mingcheng; the fact that birch sap is drinkable has already spread throughout the family compound.
Except for a few trees in front of her house that no one touches, people cut open the other trees every day to collect birch sap.
Lu Fangfang was rather pessimistic about this row of birch trees, saying that they might all be killed in two months.
These trees were all planted by Zhuang Mingcheng and his people, but he couldn't stop others from collecting birch sap.
Lu Fangfang shook her head and turned to go home.
In the summer, the temperature in the Qilian Mountains is only around ten degrees Celsius at night, so it's still a bit chilly. She went to the inner room, rolled up a bamboo mat, and grabbed a quilt.
She tied it up with a rope and then found the kerosene lamp in the house.
This old-fashioned lantern has a glass center and a handle for carrying. It was very common in those days, especially in places without electricity.
Zhuang Mingcheng bought this a few months ago; she hasn't used it yet, it's all new.
She added kerosene, lit it, and found it to be quite bright.
After working until 6 p.m., Lu Fangfang realized it was getting late and prepared to go to the breeding farm.
She carried a quilt and a straw mat on her back, and shouldered an air rifle.
She carried an oil lamp in her left hand and a bucket in her right, containing pickled rabbit, washed potatoes, cucumbers, and tomatoes—all prepared for tonight.
"Little Flower".
"Meow~"
"Little Tibetan fox."
"Awoo~"
The two little ones looked up and called out to her.
"Everyone, follow me. We're not sleeping at home tonight."
Lu Fangfang pushed open the courtyard gate, and the two little ones squeezed out first.
She smiled and shook her head, then quickly followed.
When she reached the birch tree, she took down the two military water bottles hanging on the tree, hung them around her neck, and then walked westward.
...
Under the birch trees at the entrance of the residential compound, five or six women were chatting and enjoying the cool air while fanning themselves with palm-leaf fans.
They were all quite surprised to see Lu Fangfang carrying her bedding.
"Hey, Comrade Lu, where are you going with all those bags and packages?"
"Yeah, Xiao Lu, it's almost evening, where are you going?"
Fearing rumors would spread, Lu Fangfang stopped and explained, "At the breeding farm, someone needs to watch over the incubation room at night, so I have to keep watch."
"Oh, I thought you were going somewhere, Xiao Lu."
"Yeah, I was quite startled when I first saw you carrying your bedding, Xiao Lu."
The sisters-in-law all laughed.
When they saw Lu Fangfang carrying her bedding, they assumed she had a fight with Zhuang Mingcheng.
That's true. I heard the young couple has a very good relationship; it's impossible for something like this to happen.
While Lu Fangfang was there, they inquired about the breeding farm.
Lu Fangfang didn't hide anything and gave a detailed introduction to the situation of the breeding farm.
The farm has only just started construction, and the eggs were only hatched today. It's safe to say that everything is just beginning.
"Meow~"
Xiaohua was getting a little impatient.
It shook its head, walked up to Lu Fangfang, and nudged her legs with its head.
"Alright, Sister Shufen is still waiting for me at the farm, so I'll be going now."
"Xiao Lu, you should go ahead and get busy."
"Yes, yes, please don't let us delay things."
After Lu Fangfang walked away, Zhao Guilan curled her lip and looked down at the others present.
"Chunhua, didn't you want to go to the farm? Hurry up and go home to pack your bedding and sleep there with Xiao Lu."
"And Meijun and Xiuhong, don't you two also want to go to the breeding farm?"
"Go quickly and go sleep with Xiao Lu. The farm doesn't even have a building yet. You can sleep with Xiao Lu on the pasture. The more people there are, the less afraid you'll be, and it'll be better if something happens. I heard there are wolves around here."
The three women who had been mentioned by Zhao Guilan looked somewhat embarrassed.
However, they were also somewhat relieved that they hadn't rushed off, otherwise they might have ended up staying overnight at that egg-hatching room, just as Guilan had said.
"Sister-in-law Guilan, don't make sarcastic remarks. We're not like you, with jobs already secured and just waiting to start work."
"Exactly, exactly, some people just talk without understanding the situation."
Zhao Guilan was furious when she heard this.
Holding a palm-leaf fan, she pointed at the group and said angrily, "What sarcastic remarks did I make? Wasn't it me who kindly advised you not to go to the farm?"
"Otherwise, you would have been sleeping on the grassland with Xiao Lu by now. There's no electricity there, it's pitch black at night, and there are wolves howling, bears, and... well, let's see if you can handle it!"
"snort!"
...
As Lu Fangfang carried her things to the breeding farm, she saw a military green tent set up on the grass in front of the incubation room.
The tent wasn't big; it was narrow at the top and wide at the bottom, forming a triangle, but it was big enough for the two of them to sleep in.
She was overjoyed. She thought that tonight she would be lying on the grass watching the stars, with the sky as her blanket and the earth as her mat. She never expected that her husband would bring over a tent.
