Chapter 224 Hatching

"Giddy up!"

Lu Fangfang watched Lao Xu's retreating figure, then smiled and shook her head.

With these 70-plus pounds of bones, the little quails will have bone meal to eat.

She made a good friend in Lao Xu; she still remembered her when she was herding horses.

It's a pity that in this day and age, Old Xu came from a poor background and had no opportunity to use his skills.

However, herding horses and sheep and indulging in the grasslands is also a very happy thing.

"I hope everything will be alright and we'll get through this."

Lu Fangfang murmured to herself and sighed softly.

She had just finished muttering to herself when a large head suddenly poked its head out from behind her.

"Who is this? Who's here?"

"Oh my, you scared me to death! How come you walk so quietly?"

Lu Fangfang shuddered, almost scared out of her wits.

She clutched her chest and glared fiercely at her husband.

Zhuang Mingcheng quickly patted his wife's back, but he still looked into the distance with a very serious expression.

"Fangfang, is that Xu Huayun?"

Lu Fangfang rolled her eyes, knowing that this man was jealous again.

She slapped her husband's hand away and turned to walk towards the farm.

"Hey? Fangfang, Xu Huayun is here. Is there something you need?"

"Fangfang? Fangfang?"

Zhuang Mingcheng looked into the distance again, then hurried off to catch up with his wife.

When they arrived at the farm, Lu Fangfang saw her husband follow her in, and she turned around and pointed to the wall.

"Old Xu is bringing bones to the farm. You're always overthinking things."

Zhuang Mingcheng looked at the pile of bones at the base of the wall and breathed a sigh of relief. That's right, Xu Huayun must have come for something important.

A huge pile of bones was laid out in the yard; it was quite creepy.

He went to the storeroom, found a few burlap sacks, and used them to cover the bones.

"Huh? Fangfang, where did Xu Huayun get so many bones?"

Zhuang Mingcheng bent down and pulled out an animal skull from the pile of bones.

"He found it when he was herding horses on the pasture. What's wrong with that?"

"I see. No wonder there's a lynx skull there."

"Lynx?"

Lu Fangfang turned around and frowned slightly. "We're about to eat. You should throw it away now. It's so dirty."

I don't think much of other bones, but this animal skull looks quite frightening.

However, she was quite surprised when her husband said it was a lynx skull.

The Qilian Mountains truly live up to their reputation as a paradise for animals, even home to lynxes. These big cats, known as "little tigers," are notorious for their ferocity, easily killing gray wolves of similar size.

Lynx

If it were to face a snow leopard, well... it would probably be a 60/40 chance, since the snow leopard is larger and has a slight advantage.

However, in terms of looks, snow leopards are much cuter than lynxes.

"Meow~"

Lu Fangfang tended the fire while petting the little flower.

She realized that Qilian Mountain truly loved the long cat.

Small cats include the Pallas's cat and the legendary desert cat; medium-sized cats include the lynx; and large cats include the silver shaded snow leopard. The only missing breed is the golden shaded tiger.

"Yes, Xiaohua is still the cutest."

Lu Fangfang smiled and patted the little flower.

Turning her head, she saw Zhuang Mingcheng still fiddling with the bones and said disdainfully, "What are you picking up? Hurry up and wash your hands, let's eat."

“These lynx bones are a kind of medicinal material. I picked them all out and it would be a waste to feed them to the quails.”

Zhuang Mingcheng put the bones he had picked up aside and then went to wash his hands.

Dinner was stewed potatoes and quail eggs.

A few days ago, Lu Fangfang harvested the potatoes she planted in the wasteland on the riverbank. She dug up two whole sacks of potatoes from five rows, which was quite a bumper harvest.

So these days, her family eats potatoes every day, and she saves the coarse grains.

"Oh...ah..."

Hearing the braying of the donkey outside, Lu Fangfang was startled, and then hurriedly went outside to lead the wild donkey back.

This little thing, I don't know where it inherited this gene from, is afraid of being outside at night.

After tying up the little wild donkey, she washed her hands and then went to the storage room in greenhouse number one.

A few days ago, the farm got electricity, which made things much more convenient.

Inside the room, there was a simple table made of spruce planks, but it was usable.

Zhuang Mingcheng took out the lunchbox he brought back from the regiment and gave half of the sorghum rice inside to his wife.

After finishing their dinner, the two went back to their tent to sleep.

The storage room had just been built and wasn't dry yet, so Lu Fangfang still preferred to sleep in the tent.

...

In the early hours of the morning, Lu Fangfang woke up as usual.

Listening to her husband snoring, she yawned, grabbed a flashlight, and stepped out of the tent.

It was pitch black outside, with only the stubborn little donkey still there. As for Little Flower and Little Tibetan Fox, they were sleeping in the storage room now. The farm was very safe now, and they didn't need to guard it all the time.

Rubbing her eyes, Lu Fangfang went into the incubation room and turned on the light.

After replacing a few pieces of coal, she lifted the blanket inside the incubator and looked over.

"Chirp chirp~"

"Chirp chirp~"

Lu Fangfang stared, mouth agape, somewhat dumbfounded.

Of the more than three hundred quail eggs, about half had already hatched. The incubator was full of baby quails, some still wet and trembling as they crawled out.

Seeing this scene, Lu Fangfang immediately became anxious.

It's the coldest time of day right now, and the quails really know how to pick their time to hatch.

She hurriedly opened the air inlet of the coal stove and then used fire tongs to add a few more coal briquettes to maintain the room temperature.

She jogged to the storage room and brought in the several brooder boxes she had made.
