"Oh...ah..."
The little wild donkey stopped in front of the farm and brayed expertly into the yard.
At the farm, Zhao Lanying was cooking animal bones when she heard the donkey braying. She quickly opened the farm gate.
"Roll, roll..."
The little wild donkey snorted and pulled the donkey cart into the yard.
"Huh? Little Lu?"
Zhao Lanying was startled when she saw Lu Fangfang lying on the donkey cart.
She hurriedly stepped forward and gently pushed him.
"Xiao Lu? Xiao Lu? What's wrong with you? Wake up."
"Meow~"
Little Flower sat beside her, licking her paws.
Looking at Xiao Hua's expression, Zhao Lanying breathed a sigh of relief. This clever little girl cared about Xiao Lu the most, so it seemed that nothing serious had happened.
"Xiao Lu? Xiao Lu? We're home, wake up."
"Um?"
Lu Fangfang's head felt heavy. She rubbed her eyes and slowly got up.
Looking at Zhao Lanying, she was still somewhat bewildered after a long while. "How...how did I end up at the breeding farm?"
Zhao Lanying couldn't help but laugh when she saw Lu's expression. Little Lu was really endearing at this moment.
Holding Lu Fangfang's hand, she said with a smile:
"Xiao Lu, are you still half asleep? It was the little wild donkey that brought you back. I opened the gate and it pulled the cart in."
"You're newly pregnant, so it's normal to be sleepy. But next time, please don't sleep on the donkey cart. If the donkey isn't reliable, it might take you somewhere."
Hearing this, the little wild donkey next to her was not happy. It opened its mouth and bit Zhao Lanying.
"Go away, you ungrateful donkey! Have you forgotten who opens the door for you every day?"
Zhao Lanying rolled up her sleeves and glared at the little wild donkey.
She's tall and strong, so she's not afraid of a donkey.
"Oh...ah..."
The little wild donkey snorted, then turned its head away as if nothing had happened.
However, its small eyes kept staring at Zhao Lanying.
"snort."
On the donkey cart, Lu Fangfang stared blankly at the two of them.
After a while, she finally came to her senses.
She was still quite groggy from her sleep, smiled sheepishly, and jumped off the donkey cart.
Seeing the large pot set up in the yard again, she asked curiously, "Sister-in-law Lanying, is someone here to sell animal bones again?"
"Yes, several groups of people came, some second team, some third team. They all came to sell after hearing your promotion, Xiao Lu. I've written them all down in my notebook."
Zhao Lanying pulled her along to look at the animal bones piled up in the corner.
Several groups of people came this time, and they were selling quite a lot of bones.
"At least I didn't make a wasted trip."
Lu Fangfang was very pleased.
These animal bones look to be of decent quality; once ground into bone meal, they'll be enough to feed the quails for a while.
She turned back, untied the donkey cart, and went to check on the livestock shed.
The first batch of quails that hatched are living well in their bamboo cages and look quite a bit bigger.
Counting the days, it'll be soon before they lay their eggs.
After leaving the breeding shed, she took another look at the incubation room.
After finishing her chores in the courtyard, Zhao Lanying followed her in. "Xiao Lu, I think the quails will hatch in the next day or two."
Lu Fangfang took out a quail egg and listened to it.
After a while, she nodded and said, "Sister-in-law Lanying, please keep a close eye on things these next few days. Once the quails hatch, put them in the brooder box as soon as possible."
"Okay, I won't go out for the next few days."
Lu Fangfang, along with Lan Ying's sister-in-law, brought in the brooding boxes from outside.
Fearing that Zhao Lanying might lack experience since it was her first time there, she planned to stay at the farm for the next couple of days as well.
Once this batch of quails hatches, their farm will have seven or eight hundred quails, which means they're on the right track.
After working until the afternoon, seeing that it was getting late, she slung her bag over her shoulder, picked up the rabbit and eggs, and headed home.
Xiao Hua walked alongside her, her previous gloomy demeanor completely gone.
Lu Fangfang glanced down at it, then shook her head with a smile.
"Xiao Lu, where did you go? Did Xiao Hua catch that rabbit?"
"Yes, I went out for a while."
At the entrance of the family compound, the women looked at Lu Fangfang's hands, which held both rabbits and eggs, and were all incredibly envious.
Yang Yufeng, in particular, felt a tremor in her heart as she held her second child.
Oh no, I'm going to smell the aroma of meat again tonight.
"Xiao Lu, where did you buy these eggs? They're quite big, and they look very appealing."
"It was a gift from my friend."
Lu Fangfang smiled, and without lingering, she chatted with her sisters-in-law for a few words before quickly leaving.
She knew that what she was holding was really conspicuous.
But there was nothing she could do; her strength was simply too great to hide.
When she got home, she carefully put the eggs that Lao Xu had given her into the cupboard.
From now on, she plans to cook two every morning.
"Meow~"
"Hungry again? You too, you caught so many pikas for the little wild donkey, but you didn't eat a single one yourself."
Lu Fangfang muttered to herself as she cut up the remaining half of the rabbit and fed it to Xiaohua.
There was one rabbit left, and she was home alone; she couldn't finish it all at once.
She split the rabbit in half with a knife, intending to cook it later. She rubbed the remaining half with salt, planning to let it air dry.
Counting the days, Zhuang Mingcheng and the little Tibetan fox should still be in the provincial capital. It's unknown when they will be able to finish their work and come back.
Lu Fangfang sighed and went back to her work.
...
Three days have passed in the blink of an eye.
For the past three days, Lu Fangfang has stayed at the farm with her sister-in-law Lan Ying, waiting for the second batch of quails to hatch.
Little Flower, on the other hand, keeps running outside and becomes more active every day.
She brought back four rabbits, all of which Lu Fangfang skinned and made into dried rabbits.
Xiao Hua is well-fed and doesn't need anyone else to worry about her.
That noon, Lu Fangfang and Zhao Lanying finally saw the baby quail hatch.
The two were in the incubation room, picking up the newly hatched quail chicks and putting them into the brooder box.
While she was busy, Lu Fangfang suddenly heard Xiaohua's voice coming from outside.
"Oh, Xiao Lu, this is your Xiao Hua, she's caught another rabbit for you."
As Zhao Lanying picked up the baby quails, she said enviously.
These days, she sees Xiaohua bringing back rabbits every day, and she's incredibly envious.
"wrong."
Beside her, Lu Fangfang's face showed no smile.
She raised Little Flower from a young age, and its cry when it returned with prey was not like this.
Something came to mind, and she quickly ran out.
